What Do You Want From Aliens?

I know a lot of people would like aliens to show up, or be revealed by the governments, or something. But why? What do you think they'll bring to your life that you don't already have?

Scientific Knowledge? Most of us don't even care about scientific knowledge, except when it can help make us cool stuff like iPhones and streaming porn. Would it really matter to you if aliens told you how they manage to bypass the speed of light, or what's really going on inside atoms? Probably not.

Religious Wisdom? Do you think aliens will be able to tell you if Jesus really was the Son of God? If that's the case, then you need to find a better understanding of what it means to have faith. Besides, there are lots of people on this planet with different, interesting and provocative beliefs, and what it mostly creates is hatred and conflict.

A Spaceship Ride? I think that except for some colorful pictures made by the Hubble Telescope, we've all discovered over the past few decades that for the most part, space is huge and boring and dull. You're probably much better off with some video game virtual representation of some cool imaginary planet than a real one. Also, what makes you think that you even deserve a ride? Why would they pick you?

To Take Control? People love kings, and put up with dictators because in some ways it frees them from having to take responsibility for their own lives. Is that what you want the aliens to do? Take over all the governments and finally run things "right" for a change? Free you from having to work or make decisions or grow up?

Just to Prove There's "Somebody Else?" There are 7 billion other "somebody elses" right here on this planet. Try interacting with them more. Also, just because there might be somebody else out there in the universe doesn't mean they'll like you, or even care if you exist. The fascination won't necessarily be mutual. As individuals, we are all alone in existence.

I just wonder. I often think that except for the kind of mild curiosity people used to experience when a new tribe was discovered in the 1800's, aliens showing up is just going to bring to light all of our least noble fears and desires and weaknesses, that we will all set against each other.

Being enslaved by an alien race of females for personal amusement and mating experiments sounds like fun.

This is exactly why they probably won't come to get us, cause of our sick fantasy to have sex with them. You know its true

-TRUTH- & -help of the species of Earth to mature as a species together if they can. Other then that personally I dont request much of interior universal inhabitants, ALL are trying to mature in some way or another. good question

But seriously, I'd want them to help us, help humanity. We so desperately need all the help/guidance we can get.

I want a ride off this planet before the US and Israel start a war that will kill us all either quickly or slowly from nuclear bombs.

What do I want from aliens? More than anything I would hope they had a technology that could eliminate my addiction, feel joy, and be overall very mentally balanced.

I would want to them to share the knowledge and Technology they have. I especially would like to know if they have anything to do with the origin of our species. Some Alien Intercourse would be nice

A superior alternative to capitalism and socialism. An example of a functional and altruistic society. Also... some cool video games.

What do I want from Aliens? Nothing. It would be impolite to presume upon their visitation.

If they want to come over I will offer them a bed to sleep on and my finest of Orange Soda's.

But I mean, if they wanted to bring something Id love to talk spirituality with them. Sit around philosophizing and exchange thoughts. That would be fun.

Not speaking for myself, but just from my own observations of others:

Basically, most people want and/or need a Superman! (SuperAlien?)

People need hope. Hope is often in the form of thinking that someone else will come along and fix all that we have already $*&^% up. That hope makes it possible for people to ignore the fact that most has already been shattered far beyond a state of possibly being repaired.

I want knowledge and one of those cool little orbs to zip around the cosmos in. Oh yeah, interdimensional travel capabilities. I want to meet another me.

To take me off this damn planet.

If they existed, show up in a spectactular display, where there is no doubt that they exist, say "You are not alone, grow up and when you have matured, we will talk." Then leave.

A better waffle maker, mine tends to burn one side before the other is done cooking...

There's a CHANCE they might have knowledge of the history of our entire species. History books would be revitalized and some of our most deepest questions might be answered. Especially pertaining to religion. Not only that, but space travel would be cool, and a few, other things

I think the simple fact of knowing once and for all that we, as an "intelligent" species, are not alone in the Universe. As you said, space is a huge place. To think that we are the best there is to offer is a sad and pathetic testement to whatever created all of this. Beyond that, I think the knowledge and potential contact with an alien race could bring about a profound change to our world. The knowledge they could provide us of our history, technology, medicine, social structures, etc. could propel us, litterally, light years through evoloution. You have to think that if contact were made here on Earth, that the aliens would be far superior to us in every aspect. What they could offer us is limitless.
