Thanks brother, i wish you a great year as Senior Warden. There are a few things that i am looking to do to my lodge. For one, harness and incorporate more T.O. style lodge ideals and practices. Change the way we do investigations. We have had a couple of bad apples come through lately and it's getting pretty bad. One thing that will help with that is that at our last Grand Lodge Communication in San Francisco this year, it was adopted that mandatory criminal background checks be done on every new applicant. Our lodge investigation committees are being lackadaisical. In addition, changing the candidate education program.

Making education of each degree for E.A.s, F.C.s, and M.M.s mandatory and having coaches put on classes whereby they can understand each degree more clearly before moving on. My emphasis is on educating our brothers, and trying to bring back the intellectual and esoteric side of Freemasonry back in the lodge. Something that has been missing from a lot of lodges for some time now. My officers are behind me 100% and I believe it will be a good change for the lodge....we'll see!

My Lodge has enough law enforcement representation that we have always been able to unofficially do criminal checks. Grand Lodge passed similar requirements 2 years ago, and we weren't that happy about it, because now we are required to pay for the investigations through the approved provider, when we were already doing it for free.

But, in the big picture, it is a good thing. Good luck on your goals for the new year!! I'm sure you'll do well. Just bringing your energy and motivation and an agenda should be a great start!

Thanks brother, yea being 23 years of age and the Master is going to be hard, due to all the elders watching me and looking for any mistakes I make. They have grandchildren older than me. Can I ask how much your Grand Lodge makes your lodge pay for each one? Ours is at $15 per head starting in January. We will see how it goes, I know other lodges in my area don't need it because they have the same situation as you, but it's a blessing for our lodge.

Yes, it's $15 here as well. We pass it on to the candidates when they petition. Each Petition pays $100 for the degree work up front (we hold it as a deposit until voted upon), and $15 for the background check which is non-refundable. They get the remainder of their first year's dues free.

We just had a 23 year old Worshipful Master. He followed his father through the chairs, and he did a GREAT job!! We also got a lot of young new initiates during his year. (Actually started with my year as WM, and has grown).

It's great to see a young WM, I think they'll love it.

we just adopted the criminal checks last year. The cost is passed on to the initiation fee. It's the only part that is non-refundable. Sounds like you have made some good plans. I wish you the best of luck.
