After successfully winning a two-year prison sentence against U.S. Border Patrol Agent Jesus E. Diaz Jr., the Justice Department is now trying to collect a $6,870 fine from his wife, saying it should be paid “immediately” — even though the judge signaled she would have a grace period.

In a notice sent last week the Justice Department said the fines were imposed by the court that found Agent Diaz guilty and sentenced him to prison for improperly restraining a 15-year-old suspected of drug smuggling.

What the hell is this? Since when are family members subject to paying last time i heard the accused was. I can't believe this someone does a "Crime" but someone else is responsible for paying for it?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

What makes this a travesty is the current criminal Holder so bascially what we have here is the Government shaking down the wife of the "convicted".

Totally 100% Pathetic that this is happening and it doesn't take a leap to know this happens all to often.

Can't some inmates earn income while in prison? He's going to be there for 2 years. Even if he only earns a few bucks a day doing something like making license plates, that could at least go towards paying the fine. He can then make payment arragements to pay off the rest after his release.

I wonder if the wife would be left alone for the fine if she divorced her husband?

He is responsible for any fines or fees not his family that stinks bigtime for the simple fact the number of border agents that have been "jailed" in the past 3 years is ridiculous there are politics behind this nothing more.

From the article in your link:

WorldNetDaily reported the fine notice Monday night, saying a charitable organization, the Law Enforcement Officers Advocates Council, has begun trying to raise money for Agent Diaz’s family.

Perhaps she should use this money to hire a lawyer to fight this!
