I live about an hours drive south east of the city on top of a hill. Moments ago a massive thunderstorm passed over. There was a lot of lightning, lots of pretty big hail-stones, the sky went a lot darker as if it were an hour later. After the storm passed over I looked at the trailing edge of the storm. OH MY GOD. There was probably at least ten flashes of lightning coming from that storm every second. The sound was INCREDIBLE. It is like a continuous roar of thunder. Like a fighter jet engine. And it lasted 15 minutes.

Almost as impressive as a space shuttle launch to be honest.

Since my computer was unplugged and my laptop doesn't have a microphone, unfortunately I wasn't able to film it. I'll try to find some videos on youtube or whatever.

Anyone else caught up in this? Any similar experiences?

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Heavy system passing South/East there at the end of the chart kind of colours.

Very cool I love big storms, so long as every one is safe.

As do I.
Here's a photo of a storm from the 1990's, taken from the rooftop carpark at the shopping center in Doncaster at about 4am one stormy morning....

But with the drought in recent years, big electrical storms at night are very rare.
Its definetely a climate change I've noticed.

Hey, I live on a hill too. I wonder if we live close to each other. Wouldn't happen to be Mount Eliza would it?

So jealous! We in QLD are supposed to have the evening storms! It's clear here, nothing better than a storm rolling in after a hot muggy day! Best part of summer in Australia

Yah have had some realy big storms than this before, But not sounding like this,
Like COBzz said it was like a fighter jet engine, And that was before it became windy or
started raining.

Thanks for the warning mate. Huge storm heading my way (200 kms East of Melbourne). Hopefully it will go round us but looks like we are going to get the edge.

I'm in the U.S. (Louisiana) and we had some big ones last night too. So much lightning it looked like a strobe light was on! I love thunderstorms though!
