I can finally say that this president is doing something that I can get behind 110%. He's threatening to make public all of the pork barrel requests put by lawmakers into funding bills in order to cut back on unnecessary spending.

Of course, he's only threatening to do this out of revenge for not passing his "Jobs bill" but, I say who cares; if it has good results for the country, I don't give a damn what the motivation behind it may be.

Name and Shame? Obama May Go Public with Lawmakers' Funding Requests

In a move that could escalate hostilities with Congress, President Obama may be planning to use his executive authority to publicize special funding requests that lawmakers make for pet projects.

The threat to name and shame would potentially cut off another avenue members of Congress have for influencing government spending in their own back yards. It comes at a time that Obama is ratcheting up his campaign rhetoric against Congress, which he blames for blocking his efforts to stimulate the economy, on the eve of his 2012 reelection effort.

In the draft language, the administration couches the move as an extension of its efforts to eliminate congressional earmarks and promote government openness and accountability.

Here's the text of the proposed memo:
MEMORANDUM FOR THE HEADS OF EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES

SUBJECT: Promoting Merit-Based and Competitive Allocation of Federal Funds

I hope this isn't just an empty threat. Congress needs to be held accountable for their pork spending.

Why threaten it, just do it! It should be made public no matter what!

Ummmm ? OK ?

I take it then Obama hasn't cared about the wasteful spending, over the past 5 years he's been in Washington? At least not enough to make himself familiar with a little thing called
Citizens Against Government Waste and their annual "Pigbook".

Again with the bogus threats, only intended to attract votes. Everyone is aware of the wasteful spending and Congress doesn't care that we know. Just more saber rattling, with his little toy sword.

What a joke...

It will still be nice to see the government come out with an official list of proposed pork projects. Who knows, they may even list some of the stuff that doesn't leak out to the public.

The problem is; You can be sure Obama will only use this to punish his political enemies but, at least it sets a prescedent for more openness in government.
