HONOLULU — A federal agent charged with killing a man inside a McDonald’s restaurant in Waikiki was in Hawaii to help with security at this week’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, officials said Monday.

"The agent has been put on paid administrative leave."

Well looks like they have some stable characters handling security at Apec in Hawaii. Do people usually get bail for murder? $250'000 also seems strange.. any lawyers out there have a take on this story?

I cannot comment on the two hundred and fifty thousand dollar bail posting, but I must point out that the dead man was UN armed at the time of his fatal shooting according to the report.

It is utterly unjustified to offer this agent leave with pay on this matter. He should have had any agency badge, personal weapon, his passport taken off him until such time as the matter has been resolved in court. Furthermore, he should , if convicted, serve the same scentence as a gang banger would for dropping a cashier or customer in a shoot out in a burger joint.

This clearly did not fall under the umbrella of actions taken in the interest of national security, the security of the event the killer was there to provide security for, or the personal saftey of the agent. Any agent worth his ID card being printed, should have a very good grounding in close , unarmed combat, and should not have NEEDED his weapon to fight an unarmed man, even if the agent thought he was in some kind of danger.

Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, said his thoughts and prayers were with Elderts’ family.

“I am confident that the Honolulu Police Department will handle this matter properly to ensure that justice is served, and that our community will be respectful and considerate of both the Elderts family and the national and international spotlight which is upon our beloved Hawaii this week,” Inouye said in a statement.

Let's see... the financial ministers, central bankers, and economist priests are all gathering in Hawaii... their "security" *ahem* "personnel" encounters someone whose person or behavior he finds repugnant, so he makes a point of taking his armed self across the way to a McDonald's and kills him.

"Justice" clearly will not be served here, and Inouye knows it.

What WILL be served is the agenda of the gathering global owners... this will be made to "go away." The last thing in the world they need or want is attention.
