I was just discussing this with my husband...what would the effect of our gravity have on this object because of it's size in relation to the size of the moon? I know it has alot to do with speed and what not. Does anyone here have the ability to figure this out? And I just want to say, I know Phage is trying to be the voice of reason, which I appreciate, but the possibility exists that NASA's info is disinfo. No one else seems to be coming out saying they are following this thing, the numbers could be anything.

if one can't trust the source data...than there is nothing to trust in calculations

Why is every incoming asteroid/meteor in films or when being discussed compared in size to Texas all the time? I swear it always is! lol

If the earth was about to expierience an event they sure as hell wouldn't tell the population beforehand.

How many times does a comet/asteroid need to do EXACTLY what NASA says it will before we start to give them a little credit?

This is like arguing with Christians (or any other religion, for that matter). You can point out all the obvious and blatant flaws in their reasoning, contradictions in religious texts, etc, and they will come back at you with FAITH.

Well here you can point out all the sound math in the world, these guys will tell you that NASA is fudging the figures.

You guys want it all to end so bad you refuse to see anything that contradicts your doomporn.


If someone really, really wanted it all to end.. They could just make sure that happened. No need to wait for an asteroid to do it for you.

On Nov 2nd the equator of both the rock and earth were exactly on the same plane. It is passing over the earth at off center from our north pole. It is not going between the earth and moon.

The earth axis is 23 degrees tipped. The moon rotates on this same tip. so it will fly by above the earth and when the moon reaches the top of its orbit it will be close like the north pole.


So here is whats critical to understand.

Even if the calculations are wrong and its very close Earths gravity will pull it to the atmosphere at an angle it cant enter and it will be skipped off the atmosphere at a 20 degree angle taking it much further away from the moon than predicted. just like a rock at the pond. throw it straight down and it sinks. Throw it at an angle and it skips right off the surface tension. This rock is coming at the best skipping angle.

If Nasa has lied we will know by tomorrow morning US time. However. there is Zero chance they have made a mistake in their calculations since they have had it tracked daily with radio telescopes for 4 hr spans since the 4th. They know where it is within +/- about 50 miles.

But dont kid yourself. Amateurs like Phage dont know a thing about the truth here. Absolutely nothing. The only ones who do are sitting at the radio telescope listening stations. But it still doesnt matter since we know regardless of the angle its still going to skip. Period. >.< end of story.

I think all we are saying is, if there is a chance something will hit us it would be nice to narrow it down to an area so we can stock up on some twinkies and chocolate milk to ride out the storm. If a storm is coming, most people have access to that info, but in this case most of the public is in the dark.

What is negative distance? I think your error is when you introduce the negative distances and make the linear assumption, which would wrongly imply that the distance will go from negative to positive and thus be zero at some point. So of course if you linearly interpolate with those assumptions you'll get some very small numbers. I don't see how the distances will not be non-linear, knowing the trajectories of each object??

It is funny that you are mentioning that. It was quite odd but I was watching CNN and they had a reporter go over the president's schedule in detail over the next few days. The puzzling thing about this is that the president's schedule is never blasted on the news like that. The last thing you want is a crazy idiot trying to kill the president so blasting his schedule on the news is a bad idea. The presentation of his schedule seemed forced and out of place. It was as if they were catering to the conspiracy theorists out there that would pose the very question you did.

Well, we've got re-criticality at Fukushima, a 2012 election that could change the course of history (for the better or worse), OWS protests all over the country, nuke plants being given extensions of their charters even with documentation showing a long history of neglect and disrepair, and a very serious situation brewing with Iran.. I think there are more realistic threats to concern ourselves without making up doomporn fantasies about an object that has been on our sights for years and is known by agencies throughout the world to end up being a near-miss.

You should already have a stock of twinkies and pepsi, or whatever you plan to survive on without this fictional doomsday event there to motivate you.. Because when one of these REAL threats breaks out, because we were all too busy making up doomsday scenarios to address them as a whole, you're going to need it.

There is plenty of trajectory information out there. The problem is the panic bugs here keep referencing flat maps. which is fine because to them the earth is flat too and we wouldnt want to sail over the edge in our wooden ships.

No really im super busy but let me see if I can fish out a youtube that explains it step by step. hold on.

Odd thing is recently they had no clue where that satelite was coming down so why do they know so much about an asteroid? You would think they would have more control and at least better coordinates for their own satelite than an asteroid.

This goes for everyone... I Never said its going to hit earth. I dont know either way. I am strictly flagging an inconsistency in the data provided by JPL. I provided a bit if analysis, yielding alternative results. It's up to each of you to come to your own conclusion. The distance/time chart is a simple enough illustration, and imo should make anyone 'suspicious'!

There are a lot more variables involved with a satellite entering earth's atmosphere than there are with an asteroid traveling on a path passing by a planet with a known orbit.
