The world might tilt a little more to the side of good if we hugged more often

Well I would have to see a video that shows the complete context of the situation before I made a judgement.....but IMO who gives a damn about a hug?

If I travel on business or meet new people I have to hug people and shake hands and most of them are without emotion or personal attachment.

If we want to bash Obama, lets do it on realistic terms (policy, etc). I don't care who he hugs.

This is where everyone who voted in that poll as the hug as a bad thing, needs to 'revisit it' in their own mind space and looks at what a hug helps people accomplish.

I've seen the hardest of men and women on the verge of losing it all. In the face of overwhelming tragedy and despair, be able to stand up and were able 'stand firmer' in the face of such; when their fellow man or woman, reached out with a hug, touch or kind word of support. (Sometimes a kick in the arse is needed too, but that depends on the kind of tragedy they are facing.)

Some times the hug, touch or kind word isn't enough to help them 'stand.' But _that_ time is when you put aside your own pain and stand for them.

Sure it might have been political grandstanding or it was misconstrued as the like. Sometimes a hug is just a recognition that the other person is a person, and human.

If you don't think the Pope occasionally needs a hug, I'd ask when did you stop seeing him as human?

The next question you should ask yourself, is "When did I stop seeing human compassion as not being human?"

How is that surprising? ATS is dominated by bigotry and ignorance. The largest group of users of these forums sit around patting each other on the back for anything posted that promotes their very narrow minded self defeating ideology. (just like this poll and the story prompting it) Anything different than what the hive mind has heard from Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Bill O'reilly is summarily branded as socialist, Nazi, baby eating, witchcraft, and you are then "textually" burned at the stake for your heresy.

Come on. Catch up!

All you can do is shrug, say "whatever", and vote for the least worst a-hole, hoping against hope that they might make a mistake and do something beneficial on accident.

It's a poll based on a reporter pool report from a presidential meeting with world leaders. In order for it to be bigoted, I would have to make a statement one way or another, which I have not. I'm posting the facts as they crossed the wire.

The far right has often got up and arms at Obama's gestures toward world leaders, whether it's "overly" bowing to Japan's prime minister or hugging the Turkish PM. Anti-Obama folks see this as a weakness, or likewise a chumminess with other foreign powers who they may disagree with.

The purpose of the poll is to gauge ATS member opinion. And with every poll it is the results that are interesting, as of now 39 members gave the majority 44 percent to disliking this. The sample is tiny, and it's not a pure survey, but one designed for only members, who find it, wish to participate, and give and honest opinion.

I know Turkey, well, and the importance of this moderate Muslim state in the region - I suspect others do not understand the importance of this keystone area. And I agree with your thought, that these leaders are likely spending quite a bit of time on the phone as it pertains to Israel.

As to the hugging. Yes, Muslim men hug and are even more "touchy" than their Western counterparts. That's just a fact of the matter, and not a bad one in my opinion.

I`ve seen bush kissing some saudi king or what ever and tony bliar, was kissing gadaffi, so whats the big deal with obama hugging an islamist?
