So wait...are you outraged because the Europeans didn't get a hug, or because you are a bigot and can't deal with Muslims being hugged? Which is it?

Bush kissed a few in his time.

And how about that walk whle holding hands with one.

How about a deep stare into the eyes while holding hands.

But Bush is not the only one. How about McCain.

People need to understand, this has nothing to do with bigotry, race, sharing the love, etc..

It IS NOT permissible to hug a Muslim unles you are very familiar with one another according to IslamicIslam culture. I am speaking of male hugging male or female hugging female. Not only does it show a lack of respect
It is downright disrespectful.

You should care that the leader of America cannot follow simple ettiqutte rules. At the very least the man should know this.

Muslims do not bow to one another when greeting, no matter what Hollywood has taught you. Nor do they hug.

Then Bush was really just showing the dirty muslims how much he hated them all those times he was just short of making out with them?
Your right.
He's so much smarter than everyone gave him credit for.

"Keep your friends close, keep your enemies in a long ,loving, embrace, with a little tongue!" - George W. Bush, 2004.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

This post is meant in humor. Cause the whole idea that the fake outrage has anything to do with Obama not understanding muslim culture when 80% of Americans can't even spell Muslim is just hilarious.

So Butterbone, you think the Muslims are dirty? Shame on you!

Try reading or researching to educate yourself. I did not make up the remarks, that is from the Caliph!

If you have a problem with the culture take it up with Islam. Personally, I find the idea ridiculous. However, I am educated enough to know that we should respect others when it comes to matters as personal as this.

To disregard someones mores is the same as a slap in the face.

As someone who spent a TON of time in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen), I have to say that this statement is ridiculously wrong. Especially the younger generation isn't all that different from us, and no one takes offence to a hug. At least not more than here if you get hugged by someone you don't know. Given what's going on in the Middle East, and the fact that Turkey's actively involved in the whole Israel mess, I'm pretty sure Obama and the Turkish president spent a TON of time together and on the phone.

This thread reaks of bigotry

So even writing at the bottom that the whole post was made in humor did nothing to help you catch the sarcasm? OK!

It's a poll based on a reporter pool report from a presidential meeting with world leaders. In order for it to be bigoted, I would have to make a statement one way or another, which I have not. I'm posting the facts as they crossed the wire.

It may help you to understand my thinking behind this poll, and this subsequent thread in order for you to stop with the bigoted nonsense.

The far right has often got up and arms at Obama's gestures toward world leaders, whether it's "overly" bowing to Japan's prime minister or hugging the Turkish PM. Anti-Obama folks see this as a weakness, or likewise a chumminess with other foreign powers who they may disagree with.

The purpose of the poll is to gauge ATS member opinion. And with every poll it is the results that are interesting, as of now 39 members gave the majority 44 percent to disliking this. The sample is tiny, and it's not a pure survey, but one designed for only members, who find it, wish to participate, and give and honest opinion.

I know Turkey, well, and the importance of this moderate Muslim state in the region - I suspect others do not understand the importance of this keystone area. And I agree with your thought, that these leaders are likely spending quite a bit of time on the phone as it pertains to Israel.

As to the hugging. Yes, Muslim men hug and are even more "touchy" than their Western counterparts. That's just a fact of the matter, and not a bad one in my opinion.

I could have written that eHOW article. It's user submitted content with very little oversight. And it's wrong about Muslim men. The author is "gaming" opinion.

Heh, apologies for calling "bigot" without knowing the background...just so used to people making anti-Muslim rants without ever having been in the Middle East

And yeah, you're 100% correct, that hugging thing is nonsense and not frowned upon at all. Hell, I had business partners sometimes hug if I haven't seen them in a while...it's just how they are, nothing wrong with it. And yeah, especially the younger generation is a tad more touchy than we're used too...but so are Italians
