Since we are posting images.................

Yes, since being against tax payers having to bail out banks doesn't make common sense

You lot are so brainwashed, you don't even see what's going on...either that, or you have no clue how the economy works.

Who do you think is the government by now? Wall Street IS the government, they control the fed, congress, and the house...and of course the president. Not surprising though given how much they spend on "donations". This has been set up and going on for over a hundred years so far: LINK

Who do you think designed those bailout plans? I'm just curious if you believe it was either of the last 2 presidents...because if that's the case, then you're simply wrong. It was a Goldman Sachs "advisor" who drew up those plans. Why? Because without those bailouts, without YOUR MONEY, those investment banks wouldn't be no more.

Politicians are mere middlemen, sock puppets if you will...the guys controlling everything are NOT the politicians, it's Wall Street and the top 1%. The average yearly income of the top 1% grew by 275% over the past 30 years...the remaining 99% gained 8.9% on average (not per year, that's over the course of 30 years!!!!).

Why? Because all those politicians are bought (or 99.9% of them), and they systematically deregulated the financial industry to allow for that massive wealth redistribution. And it's still happening as I type this, right now every single savings account holder (and thanks to bailout laws ultimately the tax payer) at Bank of America is liable for $75 TRILLION (!!!!) of their risky European derivatives investments. Yes, trillion...not just $15 trillion like the deficit...we're talking about 5 times more. And that's just BoA!!

How is this possible you ask? Simple, those who make and pass the laws are sock puppets...and your surprised the protestors don't want to talk with those guys???

Politicians only care about 2 things: MONEY and VOTES

The protestors have one massive advantage: Without votes, politicians make no money!

So all they need to accomplish is point out the injustice and corruption long enough to force politicians to act (no negotiation required) or risk losing reelection. And it's working! According to recent polls (Gallup, etc.) as people get more informed about the issues, and since the movement started out, they've been gaining support rapidly. According to Gallup, OWS already had more public support than the tea party around 2 weeks ago (LINK), and since then support has actually grown (even amongst the top 1% funny enough):

LINK 1
LINK 2

So in short...seems like you should do some reading and really learn what's been going on with politics and the economy rather than repeat blatant nonsense you get from some opinion shows. Facts matter!!

And WHO prints the funny money, and where are they located at ?

Again,it is you that should READ your history on the Federal Reserve sometime.......

The Federal Reserve System was created on December 23, 1913. The task of the Federal Reserve System is to maintain employment, keep prices stable, and keep interest rates at a moderate level by regulating monetary policy. Components of the Federal Reserve System also supervise banks, provide financial services, and conduct research on the United States economy and the economies in the surrounding region.

OWS cant even get the BANK right............................

The first top-to-bottom audit of the Federal Reserve uncovered eye-popping new details about how the U.S. provided a whopping $16 trillion in secret loans to bail out American and foreign banks and businesses during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

LINK

And while you are there protesting, march up to Capital Hill and ask them to resign........
Thats the movement the Average Joe is willing to protest.

You are still only focusing on the "label" when you talk about the fed. For crying out loud, look at the people running it, it's WALL STREET!!! Politicians are puppets to distract the dumb masses and keep them busy playing that stupid left vs right game. Or they distract people with trivial crap about what the "slogan of the US should be" when people are losing their jobs, just because it further divides them.

And politicians stepping down is 100% pointless until the system is fixed, so asking for it is ridiculous. The system needs to be fixed, which is exactly what OWS wants. Money needs to be removed from politics, else a tiny wealthy minority can rig the game in their favor while the rest has to bend over and pay dearly (like the $75 trillion they guarantee because BoA made stupid European bets).

Ask who benefitted the most from the bailouts and you know who's the crook, read up on how economics work, because you don't really seem to have a clue.

Oh, and technically he's getting a handout because the tax payers are paying for all that. I don't see anything wrong with that, but writing you don't get any handouts when they pay for your college education is beyond hypocritical

Why not, because it is not real?

It is more OWS propaganda being thrown around
trying to incite more hatred and class warfare
and the people are just eating it up..

Image - The 99% of OWS fudging papers now and posting
false information.
You can say that about every paper in relation to Occupy, including the ones by the "53%", so I really don't get the point in bringing that up. Also, class warfare and hatred? Really? All the paper talks about is how bad it is to be poor in a rich country. That's it.

Protesting "the rat race?" So they show up on Wall Street and camp out? This is a farce.

If they or you do not like the rat race -- drop out. Instead of sleeping in the streets, move to a plot of property, grow your own food, build your own shelter. Hunt. Learn how to can peaches. Recycle water Make your own clothes. Lots of celebs have been showing up to support the movement. They will donate some land. Live in communes and take care of your own. Our ancestors did it without Wall Street, the US, or even electricity. Ignore the selfishness and greed that modern society has foisted upon us. That is true power to the people. Why acknowledge what you do not like by moving to Wall Street?

OWS seeks attention. It craves it. It is a diva. No different than a politician. If you -- or they -- truly seek to be free of greed, corruption, and all that Wall Street embodies, leave it and occupy a solitary piece of land. Enjoy silence among the trees. Enjoy the sky and the clouds. Infuse yourself with nature. No iPhones, laptops, A/C or hot showers. No sexy reporters, journalists or on-lookers. Just people living in harmony with the land. But, this will not pass because you and I both know that is not what OWS is really about. Very few of us really desire to attain freedom. It is just too much damn work. It is easier to be mad at others. How dare THEY drive a bigger car and have a bigger house when I live in an apartment. See? You have accepted their terms and are mad that you came out on the wrong side. Enter the Occupy movement.

Deny ignorance. And propaganda. Even if it causes you to look inside and change yourself as you would change others.

To me is it kind of obvious that much of the mindset of OWS that many of us disagree with and relate to *communist manifesto* was taught by College Professors doing quite well....most Professors are Progressives, Socialists and some are outright open Communists.

When I see the url in the *heartfelt letter* I see propaganda too

I am not denying there are many such stories and that people are frustrated. My beef is the Progressives etc are manipulating the energy behind the sincere, the uninformed, and the gullible

The outcome of all this will be a huge let down for the genuine protestors which I believe as many others do are too few in number to maintain control of the energy....Too many other groups with a focused agenda

Putting a label on someone's statement as "propaganda" is irresponsible. It is like trying to win an argument by saying in order to win, "Yeah? Well you're fat." Instead a responsible individual would analyze the picture for what it is and interpret its immediate effects on the OWS movement.

I see a serious lack of debate with the increasing amount of traffic on this site and not a whole lot of collective brainstorming. Didn't we learn this in grade school? Throwing labels around is the art of politics and look how well that seems to work...Politics have no part in serious scientific inquiry which is what will help sort the facts out, it is why this site was created in the first place.

Propaganda as defined by www.merriam-webster.com... is actually correct regarding the pic in the OP.

2: the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
3: ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause; also : a public action having such an effect

So YES, it is propaganda.

Please refer to my argument instead of busying yourself with trying to disprove what I have said with a well known definition to gain some imaginary ground.

I fail to see it as a free education as such young people put their LIFE on the line for their country BEFORE receiving *free education*

FAR different than wanting a free ride on a student loan.... Looks to me like one is a FREE RIDE and the other is WELL EARNED

Just sayin

As seems to be the norm around here, I get schooled by your following posts and actually learn something.
So let me ask you this; are all ideas, thoughts, and messages spread to a mass market considered propaganda?

And if so, why the negative connotataions that arise when using this word?

Is there a positive term that can be used when sharing ideas with the world-at-large? I had believed it was "marketing," but your post tells me, no.

Edit: I'd like to point out that while I enjoy engaging in heated conversations on ATS, your logic and grasp of facts appear to be bullet proof; that's something I can respect.

You have asked a great question! What a fantastic question!!

Propaganda, and by extension, marketing has rightfully earned some of the negative connotations that come with it, but even then, there is a time and a place for everything, and when strategically placed even propaganda can have its grand and glorious purpose. Consider, as just one example, Nike's "Just Do It" slogan and campaign. They were three simple words, intended to cement a branding image, that whether it was inadvertently or not, rang a message that resonated with millions of people, inspiring countless of people to begin doing that which they had always wanted to do. Three simple words, intended to sell shoes, is remembered almost 25 years after its campaign, not because "sheeple" are so blindly influenced by advertising but because this parsimonious piece of propaganda, spoke a truism.

What was that truism? Does "Just Do It" speak to something other than its surface meaning? On its surface, it is a message of acting without much worry about the thought that goes into it. However, in its context, it is a company that largely specializes in sporting shoes, for both professional athletes and the amateur sports enthusiast, all of whom fully understand the discipline that comes with "just doing it", and all that the thought that goes behind that.

To break that thought down further, let's take juggling as an action, for an example. When we first learn to juggle, it is difficult because we cannot help but think of all the necessary actions go into successfully juggling a number of objects. The problem is that all that thinking gets in the way of actually juggling, and in the beginning we often drop the objects we are juggling, but with practice, we train ourselves to just automatically do all that we are thinking about so we don't have to think about it and just do it. Once we've reached that level, just doing it is the only reasonable and rational strategy that would follow the exercise of learning how to do it.

More than just do it as an advocacy of mindless action, it is a call to get it done! This is brilliant propaganda that has an immensely valuable message, not just to Nike's bottom line, but to anyone whose own frequency tapped into that vibrational message and become a necessary mantra to getting things done. What more could one ask for in the mad men world of advertising, hype, and well placed propaganda?

Beyond this, there is mythology. Ironically, through what appears to be some insidious conspiracy to build parallel memeplexes along side all these multiplexes of multinational corporations, through, among other methods, propaganda. One of these viral like cultural memes has been the proclivity to reject the definition of myth as it stood since time immemorial and instead use the word to be equated with lie or falsehood. Thus, one person complains that the "OWS" movement is filled with "hippies" and invariably some one replies "Oh, that's a myth.", and what is meant is that it isn't true that the "movement" is made up of hippies, but this certainly doesn't make the "movement" mythological, any more than it describes the erroneous characterizations of the "movement" by calling those characterizations a myth.

Mythology, in some ways, is the original method of propaganda, marketing, and getting messages out. The mythic structure has been used by numerous historical figures, as well as those figures who may or may not have historical significance in that they actually lived, yet they most assuredly hold historical significance in that throughout history their figure remains in the public consciousness. It matters not whether Heracles/Hercules, or Jesus were actual living beings that occupied a moment in time in our understanding of history, it is their mythology that is so historical because it is this that speaks to our collective consciousness in ways that other forms of communication do not.

It's no accident that comic books turned into major motion pictures, on average, do very well at the box office. It is not due to some genius marketing campaign - although such campaigns certainly help and contribute to the bottom line - the appeal lies in the mythology and the mythic structure of the reluctant hero. Luke Skywalker, Neo, William Wallace, Michael Corleone, Ethan Hunt, Rocky Balboa, Rambo, John McClane, and countless other Hollywood heroes adhere closely to that the mythic structure of the reluctant hero who at first refuses the call to adventure, only to find that circumstances demand they accept the call to adventure, and so they cross the threshold, step outside of themselves and begin to accept responsibility for more than their own action. This is the mark of the hero. Were the "OWS" to manage their mythology, it would demand they be heroic, but if they were, respect will come.

I actually have several friends that thought they could join the military and have their education paid for. So they did their time, but when it came time for them to go to school, the government said "Whops your paperwork never made it. Sorry, tough luck." They're only two options then were to either do another stint or buck up and pay for school on their own.
