Remember the see something say something that swept through the Nation's Wal Mart Stores??

Now they are taking it one step further by teaming up with the American Hotel and Lodging Association and LodgeNet to bring you the finest in public service announcements all in the convenience of your "private" hotel room.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today joined American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) President and CEO Joe McInerney, LodgeNet Interactive Corporation Chairman and CEO Scott Petersen, and W Hotel General Manager Ed Baten to announce the new partnership between the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) “If You See Something, Say Something™” public awareness campaign and the AH&LA and LodgeNet—highlighting the Department’s continued partnership with the private sector to ensure our nation’s safety and security.

“This private sector partnership is another example of how DHS and our nation’s hospitality industry are working together to protect our country, recognizing that security and economic prosperity often go hand-in-hand,” said Secretary Napolitano. “Each of us has a role to play in helping keep America safe, and time and again, we have seen the value of public vigilance in thwarting terrorism. Sending the simple but effective “If You See Something, Say Something™” message to the millions of guests that stay at hotels and motels each year is a significant step in engaging the full range of partners in our homeland security efforts. America’s hospitality industry is a vital engine for job growth and sustainment—and with partnerships like this it is also becoming an increasingly important partner in our nation’s security.”

The PSA will be deployed into 5,462 hotels including the Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Starwood, Intercontinental, Best Western, Red Roof Inn, Radisson, and others, covering 1.2 million hotel rooms nationwide.

Thank God they are doing something to protect our nation and its open borders.

I guess they are just covering their bases. Right? Perhaps they will tap into hotel surveillance systems as well just like the Wal Mart system.

Finally!

Now after being groped by TSA in the lobby, I can go to my room and report them straight away to DHS.

This!!!

Really, even the hermits who keep to themselves at all costs would, I'm pretty sure, say something if they see someone with a bomb strapped to their waist or anything that can legitimately be construed at terrorism. And those that won't report it on their own for whatever reason won't suddenly be inspired to based on DHS being creepy.

Hit the post too quick in trying to quote you there, sorry... Was trying to hone in one your suggestion about tapping into their surveillance systems, and say, as if they haven't already? I just wonder how many terrorist plots threatening society at large's security have been detected in Wal Marts and resorts and hotel rooms?
And as to criticisms of paranoia, someone once mentioned to me that it isn't paranoid if someone really is trying to catch you at something, entrap you, etc.
And further, to anyone who might come along and mention the "well, I'm not doing anything wrong and so don't mind, and if you do mind, then what are you up to" argument......that's all that is: an argument to make those who value privacy look guilty of something nefarious because we value privacy.

Funny thing about WalMart and all of their cameras. My local store has to many to count mounted to the building exterior and light posts in the parking lot. Literally, every angle is covered. Wal Mart is known to sell their ammo for dirt cheap from time to time often luring in the bargain hunters and those who shoot frequently at the range. See Something Say Something... The guy buying 500 rounds of Winchester .223 .... track him to the register....track his purchase method.... track him to his car... capture image of his license plate. All on surveillance video.

It sounds goofy, but totally plausible given the simple and cheap technology available.

You do have a point, and while I dont want to focus your thread on Wal mart bashing in particular, I will just say this: this is a store that offers very cheap commodities, mostly prduced in other countries where labor and laws are cheap and lax, and employs people at a wage that they might not be able to support themselves while taking up their time working to sell these goods produced in a way I alluded to above, further eroding the economic viability of this country, both for it's workers and it's investors. Not to mention the effect it has on other competing businesses in the area of it's stores. So you have that given effect on the business market in your area and it's labor force, and then you offer guns and ammunition.....
I live in an urban environment where it is perhaps one of the few places one can legally purchase a gun and ammunition--which is fine by me, btw, I am not in favor of gun control. However, does this not smell a little like entrapment?
Having said that, I do see another side to this multiple faceted issue, and that is that we live in a contrived matrix where it has become very difficult, if not impossible, to participate in a solution instead of being part of the problem or making a whole new one.... I don't know the answer to this, frankly. And we are all held hostage by the hierarchy of needs by which we must survive and participate.
There is a Lenard Cohen song that I think of a lot lately for the last several years:

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their best friend just died

And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows
