I just saw this article on FoxNews and didnt' see anything about it on here already, but apparently a local cafe is having to lay off workers due to lack of business from the OWS movement. So now the "99%" are now essentially affecting their own.

www.foxnews.com...

I just found this interesting as they claim to be supporting the rest of us, but it would seem they have no regard for other people that are working and need to work.

Thousands of people spending day and night in front of your business and you can't sell coffee? Maybe it's not the OWS crowd. Maybe it's your coffee.

Then again... maybe it's Fox News.

What did they do before the OWS movement for business? No citizen is REQUIRED to purchase anything from any story unless they so choose.

Is OWS blocking access to the business? If that's the case yeah, they shouldn't be disrupting a business like that, go disrupt a government office or the lobby of any of the financial traders.

But honestly, who cares? It's not any OWSers fault that company isn't selling coffee, you've got thousands of people outside in the cold, i'm sure you can sell some damn coffee.

but who am I to question fox news and their fair and unbiased approach to reporting.

So utterly transparent.

"It's not only a physical impediment, it's a psychological impediment," Epstein told FoxNews.com. "You look down Wall Street now, and it looks like it's under siege. So, people who have to walk down Wall Street don't walk down Wall Street. It used to be a beautiful pedestrian mall, and now it's not -- it's ugly." If the barricades are not removed, Epstein said he "cannot see" how his business could sustain itself. The eatery, which opened in June, is a $4 million venture and is an expansion of the Boston restaurant he and his wife opened decades earlier.

Interesting, the problem according to him is the police barricades, which OWS has no control over, and the fact that it's too "ugly" for people.

Get bent. I thought this was happening in America. you guys are so worried about the commies and socialists that you didn't even notice your country turning into a fascist state.

Then you actually attempt to slander those brave enough to actually stand up against tyranny?

Pfft

Yes, normal average people do not want to go downtown and be harassed by the OWS protestors. The coffee shop should try and target the crowd out front though and sell bongs, sharpies, and posterboard.

You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. However I would look to someone else besides Fox News for your barometer. Could be a lie, or it could be more government news packaged for them, or it could be that the owner of the cafe has done too much of his drug of choice and is blaming it on OWS.

I do know one thing, Fox News will not be reporting it if someone with a local business was making more money. Do not volunteer to be manipulated so quickly. After all that is their only purpose for existing; FOX NEWS = manipulation of the masses.

Speaking of Omelets, the OWS is further fail because if they are trying to start a revolution they are doing so without the support of the farmers. Revolutions start with those who provide food. OWS has no food and they started at a time where it will be getting cold. They will simply fail at what they are doing and this will in the end make future protests seem futile.

To stop a valid organized movement you create one which is unorganized and that will soon become invalid which will discourage the former.

This is part of an ongoing smear campaign.

This business owner and Faux claim something, so it must be true, right? Can we have a peek at this cafe's financials to confirm that his drop in sales corresponds with OWS' protests?

Until we can see empirical evidence that OWS is indeed causing the problem should we believe it?

Occupy Wall Street began on 9/17/11 - It has been 46 days. I'm inclined to believe this business was experiencing trouble before 9/17, because it seems like 46 days at a 30% decrease shouldn't be enough to justify laying off 30 employees and closing down 6 hours earlier than they used to. Without seeing their financials we cannot be sure though.

Har har occupiers are just weed smoking hippies hyuk hyuk I'm so original.

I'm sure you work for a bank or have been lobotomized by Republicans with the hope you'll one day be the 1%, but you should know the likelihood of you ever even being in the top 10% in this country is worse than you being struck by lightning twice while holding a winning lottery ticket. Most of the people who will ever be in the top 1% were born there.

One other thing - Why doesn't this business use this as a marketing opportunity?

It's cold outside. Coffee on a cold day is AMAZING.

Why can't he brew up a few pitchers, get some employees moving through the crowds giving out little styrofoam cups of coffee. Show OWS that you are sympathetic with their cause and they will support you. This guy has an opportunity to INCREASE his business and he's squandering it. Who's fault is that?

Fox News ?

You really don’t actually believe anything Fox News puts out do you ?

My read on the report states very clearly that it is the barricades that are restricting business.

Along with his “target” clientele, the Wall Street Bankers and their employees afraid to be seen on the street.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly !

Here we have a small business owner who has by business plan thought that it would be profitable to open a high-end coffee shop on wall street targeting the wall street workers. They are the beautiful, the GOOD. The Police State has arrived on Wall Street, barricades, Police Thugs dress in white shirts, the BAD. So the everyday Joes dress in t-shirts and jeans are, the Ugly.

Seems to me that this small business owner has not been a very good businessman. Small businesses must remain flexible and be ready to respond to changes in the market place at a moments notice.

I am a small businessman and the market in which I trade has the ability to change in a matter of days and if I am not diligent in watching and forecasting the treads in my market I could lose my shirt inside of a week.

I have no sympathy for a businessman who does not roll with the punches, that is Capitalism and if you are not willing to risk it all, find something else to do.

But, really Fox News ?

Not even close on the personal attack but whatever. I have no interest in becoming part of the top 1% or part of the bottom 1%. I am content with what I have and where I am. I've worked for everything I have and that gives me a sense of appreciation that you just don't have when things are handed to you as if you deserve them.

I would think the otherway happened.

The huge amount of protestors are not without means, and had received donations. The protestors are humans, and have needs to be met. Along with curious tourists and bystanders whom may not had wandered into those parts of town.

Thus there is a HUGE amount traffic and customers to shops and cafes, AND in the middle of winter too. Those shoppers should be smiling ear to ear, and if they ever got to know the op posted this thread, he would be pelted with eggs if he ever stop by there.

Right on. If you can't sell coffee to a thousand homeless hipsters milling about outside your coffee shop, then you're in the wrong line of work. I could go to any "indie" hipster coffee house around town and find a crowd quite similar (in appearance, that is) to the OWS protestors sipping one coffee, smoking cigs and sitting all day. They're broke and homeless-by-choice, too!

And that's the way this world works. There are no free rides you make it or break it so sure up your homes and finances, pay attention to where you spend your money and mind your own. The situation we are in now is due to years of people doing what they want and acting like children, consuming material goods and neglecting their duty as citizens to keep the governments in check.

I hope they had fun wasting student loans on beer and recreational drugs and fast food. I hope that they enjoyed their gaming consoles and buying cars they could not afford. If society as a whole is so stupid as to let this happen then so be it, I will go down with the ship but let there be no doubt I prepare as best I can for the fallout.

The smart people have money because they buy cheap shoes!

Wow, you guys even justify screwing someone's business, someone's business that has NOTHING to do with the protests...
You protesters make me sick

ETA: Fox news is 'manipulating the masses', correct?
CNN or MSNBC would NEVER do that either, right?

Ends justifies the means

A simple way to find out is to see how well another coffee shop just outside the scene is doing. Have their sales gone up due to business being diverted to their shops away from the one mentioned in the article? If true, I suppose some will justify crapping on the little guy's business as all being an acceptable consequence of "The Plan"

Whatever that may be

Can you tell me how the other businesses around this guy's business is doing? Because without knowing that, this is just biased information without any of the necessary info with which to gauge it.
