Bottoms up to those who have will power. Go to a meeting for those who don't.

Point is that lifes real pleasures have nothing to do with anything you've listed here. These are all forms of distraction or intoxication, not pleasure, there is a huge difference in my book.

Also its well known that those who make claims that they can "stop whenever they want" and bring their willpower into it, are usually those who are shown to not be able to stop and to have no willpower. If you don't believe me then give up sex, smoking, drinking, any other intoxicants, and bad foods for a month, including masturbation. Not because I challenged you to, but to see for yourself if you really have the kind of willpower you think you have. You'll be surprised, the vast majority of people are unable to last but a few days, let alone a month.

If you can do it, then you have the right to talk about your awesome willpower and self control, because you will have learned to control your passions for a period of time that far exceeds almost anyone you will ever meet in this society.

This is really just the short list too. If you can do this you can bring video games, internet, television and fiction reading into the mix too, and then spend all your free time reading non-fiction and in contemplation about life and reality.

But why bother with a list of a dozen things when most people are incapable of giving up even one?

I think I understand the reasoning behind including the "should it be banned" reference - perhaps just looking for a conversation starter-- as you can see, banning isn't readily accepted, with many good reasons presented why not to.

I believe society is just going to have to evolve, to eliminate the desire for it.
This is not for the majority who drink moderately - we do too.

Keep in mind there are millions of people who's lives have been ruined by the abuse of alcohol.

Its become such a HUGE part of our day to day lives - and such an accepted illusion to add alcohol to the functioning of any occasion. Its wrapped around sporting events - everywhere.

We are surrounded by it.
Just ask anyone who has served booze. Alcoholics are everywhere, every age colour and creed. And their dumbing-down is bringing our society down.

Inshallah the driver would be prosecuted for DUI and Manslaughter and sent to prison.

Not the rest of society punished.

Does this mean i can chime in?

I did this for a favor for a friend, sort of a buddy thing, we lasted 8 weeks 3 days. Had to eat like a vegan, no self pleasure, or sex, no smoking, booze or drugs (of ANY kind).

Was it a good experience, yes and no. Would i do it again? Absolutely not.

As soon as it finished, i gorged on meat (nice thick steak *dribble*), i was sick constantly, i dropped more weight than i ever wished too, and it took 4-5 years to put it back on again. On the flip side, pain killers worked again
.

Was it hard? Oh hell yes, i was forced to shift my focus' outside of work, to keep myself distracted
Why did i fall off the 'horse'? Because i 'felt like it'.

Life is about choice, not about barriers and silliness. Its YOUR life, in the end YOU choose what to do with. If you choose to break the law, thats your choice, if you kill someone in the course of your choice, take responsibility.

IF we want to ban or make something illegal or force something upon others, force THEM (and YOU) to take responsibility for your actions and choices, dont blame booze/drugs/stupidity/age/insanity/boredom, put your damned hand up and say "YES, yes i did that, and im willing to accept the concequences.".

Use your heads people.

Religion has been around for thousands of years, and for thousands of years it has been keeping people dumbed down and following the norm....

Perhaps religion should be banned for all it's misery and anyone who follows ANY god should be put in prison... just think of all the wars, beheadings and suicide bombers it would prevent

Why?

A. We tried it, it failed.

B. It is a great american historical thing, and has a huge following of people whos sole jobs are to drink (Wine connisures)

C. Americas economy would collapse even more, seeing that all bars and casinos would no longer be able to run.

D. Crime rate would SKYROCKET.

E. What about the 4,000 years of food and drink history that would be thrown out the window? One of my boyfriends best selling products is beer and cheese soup and without the beer, well, its just cheese soup. Not to mention his beer bread, irish coffee, most the extracts for the cookies and breads are all based off of alcohol.

F. What about religon? Grape juice at mass wouldn't go over very well....

G. It just tastes good! (Mixed drinks and wine I mean, Beer can go kill itself as far as drinking goes.)

Edit: after reading the post, I must clear that I mean one of my boyfriends PRODUCTS not one of my BOYFRIENDS. I am not a slut xD

That is also the theory of the majority of people. It's pretty blatant as to why it isn't illegal, and you've pretty much averagely summed it up.

Sorry in all my ramblings I forgot to mention I think it should be ILLEGAL, sorry for the mistake

Stop imposing your moral shortcomings on the rest of the world.

If I choose to brew my own beverages or distil my own from said brew, it's none of your damn business. Get out of my living space, and sort yourself out.

You do not control me with your thoughts, so your opinion that a vice should be illegal is nothing short of you wanting to control me and my actions, when they have nothing to do with you.

Some people get away with molesting kids. Just get out of their living space.

Find another thing to do besides drugs buddy legal or not.

Then buy Near-beer. You dont need alcohol in beer. Non alcoholic wine is available too. So you can still have your "social scene or lonely nights infront of the tube.

nonalcoholic wines do not taste the same, and nonalcoholic beverages do NOTHING when it comes to cooking, because they do not have the lower boiling point and higher freezing points.

OP...I did not have to read your thread to say you are absolutely right. I've over imbibed in my life... and on here at ATS. I'm ashamed of myself for sure. Alcohol is the devil itself. How society has proclaimed alcohol over other mind altering substances is beyond me.

Oh joy, yet another person who, because of their own insecurities, feels the need to control others and make decisions for others as to what they they may and what they may never put into their own bodies.

When will this mentality die a natural death?

Why are there so many people who feel compelled to CONTROL other people?!?!?!?!
This is a spiritual sickness and disease!

I do so hope we will one day outgrow this overwhelming compulsion to CONTROL other people.
