Check this out,

It is now an indisputable fact that the United States is attempting to control the internet through censorship; in fact the U.S. issued more “content removal requests” to Google than China, which is regularly criticized in America for their draconian internet policies

Another surprise at just the right time.

It is a disturbing trend indeed but using China as a comparable example is not on par. I find that source to be very biased on that matter particularly. Comparing take down requests to Google is one thing but the track record overall regarding US vs. China when it comes to censorship is a whole other matter. We, here in the US have it far better than Chinese citizens do any day regarding censorship. The US is definitely heading that direction slowly but surely though just like China did.

I would have to say that I question the authenticity of this claim, but it would not surprise me. An above poster made a great point about Google requests and their not being comparable to actual censorship, although I think any form of censorship is bad.

What is it with the government thinking people need to be told what they can and cannot put in their bodies, or see on the internet, among other things. Something like child pornography, for instance, is completely understandable, as is anything similarly heinous.

But, I cannot think of much more than that which should be censored. It is ridiculous. If I had one wish, I would revive the Founding Fathers, especially Jefferson, who foresaw many of today's problems, and have them in all the positions of power, giving them sole authority, without Congress, to fix the country's problems as best they could. It wouldn't be any worse than things are today, and I suspect their implementations would be a lot like Ron Pauls. But you know what they say about wishing in one hand...
