I for one fully support the right of every filthy smelly hippie to protest in a peaceful fashion. They irritate me, but I'm sure I would irritate them.

This says the head of the police union. There is a big difference between them and the head of the police. Of course they unions are requesting the mayor to stand down the unions are big supporters of OWS. Until the actual police stand down. I won't get too excited.

I agree, I was reading it more as a respect for the people as well. The people on the police force aren't like the storm troopers in Star Wars, they are humans with lives and family.

I think that too often people forget that. It's easy to see just a badge and a gun and forget that person wearing them is every bit as human.

exactly, which means they could be a good person and have good intentions, a good person and have bad intentions, a bad person and have good intentions, or a bad person with bad intentions. and they have a badge, which means they will more than likely (i would give it a 90%+ chance) to get away with whatever they want.

why the hell would i ever trust a cop more than anyone else because they have a badge? unfortunately, the corruption is so rampant that i cannot.

if cops want my respect and trust, they would end "the brotherhood" and stop covering up for the scumbags that give them a bad name. but few are willing to stand up, because initially the personal cost is too great. why is this a person i would admire/respect/trust?
