I was recently going over some of the very interesting work that they're doing over at the
Stanford Virtual Human
Interactions Lab and I got to wondering, how much of ourselves we put into the pictures that represent us online.
For instance, another study over at Indiana found that in a virtual environment, people use another person's avatar in Uncertainty Reduction (AKA
who/what/how are you?) with almost as much credibility as meeting them face to face.
So, what is your relationship to the picture that you use to represent yourself here? Does it resemble you? What does it say about you? What drew you
to it?
I'll answer first to get the ball rolling.
1. I look almost exactly like Jason Schwartzman in Rushmore, except skinnier.
2. I'm a professor, so I like the way he's pointing at the blackboard.
Your turn?
