Ghost sightings and hauntings in my area have picked up in a huge way this year. I have always been a very skeptical person when it comes to the paranormal, but this year, my mind is slowly changing. I will never say I believe in ghosts, but I could perhaps one day say that un-explainable beings are real, and not just a possibility like how I have been thinking in the past.

I can safely say about once every 2 weeks, I hear about a new local haunting. Here's one of them, from my own Aunt!

A few months ago my Aunt moved into a new house. Within 2 weeks odd things started happening. First off, it started with the constantly ringing phones, all through the night. Then a tapping on their shoulders. Later on everyone who was living there started having the same dreams about some little girl (typical right?).

Well back then (as in around April of this year), she was recently divorced. She met a guy (who now is her husband) and he eventually moved in with her and her two kids. We'll call him James. She told him about all the odd things that were going on in the house, so he came up with a plan. (a fun one.. so it seemed at first)

James sent my Aunt and her kids to stay at his mother's house for the weekend while him and his buddies buy a few cases of beer, and spend the weekend doing their own little investigation.

James is one of the most closed minded, skeptical person I know of, so I was a bit shocked when I heard his story about his weekend. The first night, every one of them got to experience the finger tapping on your shoulder. Oddly enough, it happened to James first. He said he thought it was one of his buddies simply messing around with him, but when he turned to look, he could see all of his buddies still in the living room.

He kept his mouth shut about, until it happened to two more of them. That is all that happened their first night, which they shrugged off as just them all being way too drunk haha.

The second night... the nonstop phone ringing started. At first though, his buddies were calling his house number with their cell phones in their pocket to mess with him. After awhile he said the joke got old, and it got a little heated which ended up with everyone laying their phones on the table during one of the nonstop rings.

After everyone emptied their pockets, the phones were still going. Every time one of them would pick it up, it was nothing. No static, no dial tone. It was like someone cut the phone lines. So, they went out to check the wiring, and sure enough, they didn't see any problems with it.

So they went back into the house, and with the phones still ringing, he unplugged one, completely. It kept ringing.

Not long after that is what turned James into a believer, which is when they actually got to see the little girl. James and just 1 of his other buddies felt a chilling touch on their shoulders and they both looked at the basement door the exact same time and saw her.

First thing he said he did was throw what was in his hand at whatever he was seeing, which were his truck keys. He said it went through her but didn't make a sound, as if it never landed on anything. They all bolted after that, and he never did find his truck keys, luckily it wasn't his main set, but a spare.

After that, they called in two different times a local preacher to bless the place. Then a week after that, she flew in some guy from Texas to do it, but with no luck. They eventually moved out not long after that last preacher.

This is just one haunting. The story (i heard 3 sides of it by the way) is not what is helping to open my mind more to it, it is what happened after my Aunt moved out. The next family that moved in there, had the exact same thing happen to them, and even the family after that! I'm not sure if she moved out mainly because of the haunting, but I think it was more of anger, as the owner admitted to her that she knew all about it already. The ringing phones, the shoulder tapping, the ghost girl, everything! I guess I would be ticked too.

Now to get back on topic, I don't normally hear so many ghost related stories within 1 year. I would say, on average, I hear about 5-8 new ones each year. This year, I have heard so many I have lost count.

What urged me to finally post my thoughts about this, and share my Aunts story, is that these are all local ones! I thought these paranormal experiences were supposed to be pretty rare. By local, I mean all within my own county, which is about 4 small towns and very old and run down city (which has hundreds of slaves tunnels underneath it, also known as the underground railroads or freedom tunnels).

So with that, I wondered. Have ghost sightings or paranormal experiences picked up a bunch in the places where you live? Please share the story of one if you know it well enough. I have more interesting ones, but the reason I chose my Aunt's is because the story is the same every time I hear it and from different people.

An EMF (or 'ghost meter') is fairly inexpensive. it measures background electromagnetic energy in milligauss.
You can pay a lot of money for more complicated equipment but unlees you're really into the physics of it, having a handheld machine that goess beep beep and lights up is enough to tell you that either you're standing to close to a piece of electrical equipment or that you're not alone...

I've always been open minded, but was skeptical at the same time. Over the years, I've been witness to some strange events, but only a couple real mind-blowers. I can now say I'm completely convinced that authentic "paranormal" activity is indeed on the rise. I recently saw a loaf of bread fly off a shelf and sail through the air in a crowded grocery store! It was witnessed by another person, so I know I wasn't hallucinating! (I posted a thread about it.) Two good friends of mine have experienced some crazy things recently .
One of them said he saw a ghost in our neighborhood cemetery. This friend is someone who is totally honest, virtually incapable of lying. He saw a ghost of a man standing over a grave. It absolutely terrified him.

Two women I know were on a lunch break from their job, sitting in a park near their office enjoying the fall weather.
They were sitting there talking when one of them pointed out something "sparkly" up in the air. They told me they watched as a dime, a freaking coin!!...came floating down in mid-air in front of them! It was turning end over end in "slow motion", and dropped to the ground at their feet. They thought of course that someone was playing a trick on them, but there was no one anywhere near them! One of them, who is an extremely intelligent person told me that she thought someone HAD to have somehow remotely controlled the dime, but how could someone possibly make a coin defy gravity like that?
Yes, my friends, this paranormal supernatural activity is no doubt on the rise.

All the ridiculous "Hollywood" paranormal crap on TV is making the whole paranormal subject 'trendy', which is annoying as hell. I think it's corrupting the legitimate stuff somewhat. There are too many attention whores running around saying they're experiencing hauntings everywhere, and too many gullible people who believe every dumbass 'ghost hunter' running around.

Your story of the phones ringing reminded me of a story I heard years ago. The father of one of my best buddies rented a pretty cool house after he and his wife divorced. He told us he thought the house was haunted because he heard footsteps. When he heard them, they would always be walking up the steps from the lower level of the house. Nothing else happened, just the footsteps. Then he said the phone would sometimes ring but no caller would be on the other end, just complete silence. This was before everyone had caller I.D.

He noticed it oftened happened as he was leaving the house. One time he was leaving for a business trip and was hurriedly running around, last-minute packing, making sure he was all set to go. The phone began ringing.
He ignored it. It rang and rang...like 20 rings. He thought it may be someone having an emergency so he answered it. Silence...no caller. He said it was then that he got the distinct impression that whatever was in the house would make the phone ring because it wanted him to stay in the house. It didn't want him to leave. I thought that was pretty eerie!

Crap, for months now my phone rings at the same time every night and when we answer there is nothing but silence at the other end. It sometimes happens twice.

I attributed those to some telephone surveys I've heard of where they send automated calls to determine how many people are home at such and such times of the evening, but I am slowly staring to distrust that theory as I realize they happen every night. How long can a survey like that go on? So maybe it is something else?

PS: My wife and I have also both seen strange shadows in our basement alcove.

Maybe it's time to do something, either investigate, or leave well enough alone, or pray?

Yes, it's a rental. I never heard about it before until earlier this year when my mother would phone telling me all about it. Pretty much every time she started going on about it, my eyes would start rolling. I may not be a full believer myself, but my family on the other hand believes it all 100%.

I heard yet another new one today from an old friend. One I haven't spoken too for about six years. He told me when he bought his grandmother's trailer after she died, every morning he woke up he would find screws laying on the floor. Well he eventually sold it and moved into an apartment. The same thing happened. Every morning he would find (or most of the time step on) screws just scattered about on the floors.

After his apartment, he moved into his new house (still living there today). He said not a day after moving in, the very next morning, he found screws yet again.

To top it, which gave us a good laughter, I went and visited his house. Soon as we walked in, my shoe hit a screw and knocked it towards the wall makin` a loud sound. I admit, I jumped, but only out of surprise.

You could clearly see the vacuum cleaner marks from where his wife cleaned before going to work.
