The Taliban has been given ample opportunity to join the politic process in Afghanistan by the Afghan government and unofficially by the US, but they
would rather run and gun in the mountains...

While I do not approve of the Talibans harsh ways, they were THE government before the US invasion whether we like it or not.
And rightfully so. To give credit where credit is due, the people who became the Taliban were the ones who got Afghanistan out of the sheer chaos in
the '90s, reuniting most of Afghanistan and ending most of the corruption and lawlessness that was rampant there.
So the new Afghan government (put in place by the US) offering the Taliban a chance to be a mere part of the political process is probably seen as an
insult upon injury by the Taliban.
