I was having a quick browse on the old ATS search board and I can't believe this question has not been asked directly to ATS members.

Yeah its an oldie but I'm curious to know, What do you consider the greatest movie ever made?

For me... drum roll ................ The Shawshank redemption *****

Blade Runner

In a cyberpunk vision of the future, man has developed the technology to create replicants, human clones used to serve in the colonies outside Earth but with fixed lifespans. In Los Angeles, 2019, Deckard is a Blade Runner, a cop who specialises in terminating replicants. Originally in retirement, he is forced to re-enter the force when six replicants escape from an offworld colony to Earth.

Not the greatest si fi movie, but up there, prob top 50 all time,
For me personaly greatest si fi is the original, "The Thing".

I love The Thing also alot but Blade Runner has a special spot on my shelf.
The Godfather is another movie.
Shawshank Redemption is a good choice Amazing movie.

The Great Escape (Steve McQeen) vs Sparticus (Kirk Douglas)

Both ascribe to the heart, spirit and determination of man!!

Also because they portray a lot of truth!

I have blade runner special edition, to tell you the truth I was born in 78 and when I first watched the movie I just didnt get it.


But today it is defiantly regarded as special in the si fi realm, almost artistic, unique and ahead of its time,
Great choice.

Star wars episode V the empire strikes back.

What is the most memorable to me would more like it. 'Die Hard' is a classic, 'Godfather' 'Ronin,' though not a big box office, is still a great movie. 'Goodfellas' while based on a real person still has an air of black comedy.

Forgot to mention Forbidden Planet' seminal sci-fi from the 50's special effects still hold up.

Way too many, but if I were to throw one out there...
