This photo was posted to my FB page and I decided to post it here for you to see and discuss.

Apparently, this photo has been found to be authentic.
Source: urbanlegends.about.com...

Analysis: Sadly, the photograph is real. It was taken on March 23, 2011 during a public protest in the city of Niterói, Brazil (part of the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro) by Peter Kirilos of O Globo (The Globe), a prominent local newspaper.

This site is well known for debunking photos and has found it to be authentic.

Here is the original article translated by Google: Source

Another article and more pics.
www.policebrutality.info...

This is disgusting. What is this world coming to?

Edit to say: Thank you Casandra for the links.

Not condoning the actions of the cop but who in their right mind brings children to a protest??

So true, but I am not sure the children were brought. The entire city was protesting so it may have only been in transit. I do not have that information, I am just looking at possibilities.

I think he's spraying someone behind the child who we can't see.
That woman would be going after the cop if her daughter had been sprayed in the face.
They're avoiding something, not reacting to it.

Here's the same cop spraying a VERY dangerous individual that obviously has eyes in the back of her head

Source

How can a person like that be a police officer? Did he join to protect people at first but ended up abusing his position after? Or did he just join to be cruel like these images show?

We're supposed to feel safe knowing that there are cops out there looking after us, but we just end up being afraid of criminals AND police alike.

A picture is worth a thousand words.......

Is it really so acceptable to act without any humanity whatsoever? The original piece on the protest didn't even mention police actions at all. With that pic as the lead in the piece!!!

Less than two weeks ago, we saw video surface of a toddler in China run over and left to die.

Are we really willing to accept where this lack of humanity is leading?

As a father of two sons and an uncle to two little girls, I can guarantee I would not sit idly by and let that go easily.

People in general have lost any sort of humanity they were given in life. This man deserves whatever may come to him and he is lucky it's not me giving it to him!

Really? Really truly?

I looked at the photo again - but unless that woman is hiding a ferocious tiny dog in a hidden bag on her buttock cheek - I can't see how he's aiming for anything but the child.

The officer's posture and body language do not portray any defensive stance.

You think the woman would be going after the cop? Wouldn't that depend on the circumstances? If police brutality is condoned and accepted, would that really be a mother's action? It wouldn't be mine. A population facing such brutality as few options as individuals.

On to your last sentence - which i agree with. They are avoiding something. THEY ARE AVOIDING GETTING BRUTALLY PEPPER SPRAYED.

I can only ask again. Are we really willing to accept where this lack of humanity is leading?

Wow. What a big man.

I want to reserve judgement because I want to see if this is authentic or not....

But I would kick this dudes teeth in faster than his buddies could get to me.
And that is a fact.

It shouldn't matter! Anyone should be able to walk around their own city and country and not be afraid of getting sprayed!

I'm just not sure what i'm seeing here to be honest with you.

Everyone seems WAY too calm. The officer doesn't seem agitated at all.

Something is wrong with this scenario.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to reserve judgement...Though if it does turn out to be true...Then my previous comment stands.

Yeah, maybe the brazilian police is spraying the mosquitos to protect the protesters. Maybe that spray is just "Glade", apple-cinnamon scent.

Upon further investigation and other news paper reports this is, in fact, real.

I never thought I would see someone just ever so casually doing this.
