Time to for the protesters to upgrade their arsenal. Obviously bottles and rocks aren't going to do the trick.

If these were Tea Party protesters...

But it isn't. Not even close.

Yeah, let's just go commit violence.

Oh wait, what am I saying 55% of OWS supporters believe violence is the answer:

The response was still too agressive I think, but at the same time people need to stop blindly supporting the OWS group
If you blindly support the blind then what are you?

Unlike the blind, screeching opposition evidenced by yourself and others, nobody supporting the movement is going in blind. Bottles were thrown? Okay. As even you seem to admit, this does not excuse the police response. Nor does it discredit the movement - remember, these are the same cops that had just gotten done committing assaults and vandalism by gassing people out of the park and then smashing all the belongings left behind. if the police can get away with destruction of property - and they clearly can in many books, so long as that property is owned by people without a corporate charter - then they can handle a bottle. You know, with their inch-thick body armor, plexiglass tower shields, riot helmets, gas masks, etc.

This is not even anti-capitalism, it's even worse than that
It's pro-stupidity and everyone should pay for everyone equals Socialism!
What a perfect launchpad for full socialism, because it comes from the people

Oh look, another ATS poster who uses words he doesn't know the meaning of. How cute.

But what is socialism in a nation cursed with this much special interest groups?
It's corporatism!
These idiots are protesting and will only end up making the major corps they hate even stronger.

Oh yeah. You're confused. One time when I was really little, i tapped on the side of an aquarium really hard, and the fish kind of started going sideways. You remind me of those fish, you have this wide eyed "dude, what?" thing going.

There is too much OWS support on ATS!

What ATS are you looking at? The majority of posts on OWS are from blithering morons who just foam at the mouth and rant about socialism, without ever knowing what the # that word means, or how it could possibly apply to anything in the discussion. And this is NOT counting the many, many posters who are outright hoping for violence to be used on the protestors.

What happened to focusing on the issues?

What happened is that there are morons who ignore hte issues in favor of derping around like stunned fish and yelling random # about "socialism" with a clear lack of understanding about either that word, or the goals and interests of the OWS protestors. In other words, the issues are clouded by people like you who go "THEY'RE ON THE LEFT AND I HATE THE LEFT SO I HATE THEM LALALALALA CAN'T HEAR THEM!!!!"

Actually you're reading it wrong.

Of MEMBERS...
Which only really count...
24% advocate violence. The rest were Guests

AND

57% were apposed to violence

Touche.

I don't think that image is entirely accurate though, because I'm pretty sure that number of arrests is for all of the protests nationwide, not just in New York. I could be wrong...

I'm wondering how the worldwide/nationwide total amount of each protest group compares? Because I don't recall hearing about tea party rallies popping up all over the place, with marches amassing hundreds, even thousands of people (although I did find this march and this one on Youtube).

I also don't recall tea party members camping out in Hoovervilles in protest, where unfortunately unlike a comfortable home with a lock on the door and potentially an alarm system, some strange homeless man can unzip a piece of tarp and rape you, and police can also arrest you for little to no reason.

The methods of protesting are entirely different, but the arrests especially pop out at you...

That's actually a general poll of ATS, not necessarily supporters of OWS. And as I noted above, I've seen several opponents of the movement clearly hoping it turns violent. Too bad board rules prevent the naming of names outside the relevant threads.

I assure you I'm not one of them.

I WANT OWS to remain peaceful.

But if they want violence then they need to be willing to accept the consequences of their actions.

If the Tea Party had turned violent I'd have turned against them.

There was a time Fox that i thought violence was the answer as well. And I know what kind of mentality it takes to believe that. That's why I'm against it.

MYFOXNY.COM - A protester, angered by the presence of a news crew inside Zuccotti Park Friday morning, threatened to stab Fox 5 News reporter John Huddy. Police arrested the protester.

www.myfoxny.com...

I'd say it is representative of the last month.

You have to add Agree and Strongly agree.

And since the majority of members and guests were supporters of OWS then you have a serious issue.

I recommend looking at the numbers in the rest of the poll.

One thing is for certain, MEMBERS are smarter than that.

Though by some of the responses I've seen that number is being diluted by new registrations.

Of course, even at its peak, the Tea Party protests only managed to get roughly a third of what OWS has. Tea parties also rolled up and went home before Matlock. Another important consideration is that the tea parties never once posed a challenge to the status quo of the system. They were pro-corporation, pro-government (just anti-Democrat), and their "protest" usually consisted of standing around waving a flag and being generally vapid.

So that's why even when they stomped on people's heads, carried weapons through the streets while screaming about spilling hte blood of "tyrants," they were allowed to pass by the police.

Your argument boils down to "This movement was smaller, did way less, and the police tended to ignore the violations they did commit."

I did.

I eliminated the "Guests" from both sets both pro and con and only counted members. [Agree & Strongly Agree] [Disagree & Strongly Disagree]
look at it again and add up both sets with only "Members in both"

By the way I agree with you and starred your post.

That's your view of it.

My view is that they were protesting for smaller government.

They deposed as many democrats as they did republicans in the elections.

They turned their anger into political capital.

OWS is turning their anger into riots.

I couldn't help but laugh at that one

But stuff like that doesn't happen at occupykc. Most of the cops up here love us, in fact one of them actually brought up a tent for the campsite. They also helped us out by blocking off intersections with their cars during a march.

But there are some people who take advantage of the occupation and aren't motivated or concerned about it in the least. There also haven't been any arrests up here. Those other states/cities need to take notes

And I agree that as far as Members are concerned that is true.

But members on both sides of this argument recognize the futility of violence.

I ignored the members in my numbers and only added the totals from both Agree and Strongly Agree.

The Tea Party accomplishments:

Ted Kennedy seat going Republican first time ever in decades and subsequent election's since then.

A complete sweep in the House of Representative's a close call in the Senate.

Stop a running wild Democratic majority and change the focus of the Hope and Change crap.

We have all seen what they have done and We have all seen what OWS has done which has amounted to not much but get arrested bunch of stealing and few other things i won't waste my time on.

The difference between TPM and OWS is location among what has already been listed.

Provocation is a duel edged sword.

Huh? What sort of flawed logic is that?

So you are saying it was fine to throw the initial bottle at the cops because of what they might have been wearing?

That is like saying it is fine for a man to take advantage of a woman because of what she is wearing, like a short skirt.
