I think that what the mayor did is sick, but I agree with you. In a lot of these cases, we cannot say for sure whether it still would have happened at some point. I think that, in general, we may in fact be creating these crimes by simply giving them the opportunity to flower. If you put an undercover agent on a street, posing as a prostitute, and wait for guys to approach her before arresting them, one must ask: Are we certain the person who approached the prostitute would have done it anyway eventually without our being involved? I don't think we can be certain, and thus, that's why I'm opposed to these kind of criminal justice practices.

That's exactly what happened. He had been corresponding with the "child" for some time and could have stopped anytime. But he took that final step. Good riddance I say.
We found out after knowing him for 15 years, even his wife didn't know anything about it and I believe her, she is hart broken about the whole thing he was always involved with his boys on all kind of youth activities. He got 10 years and can not use a computer without monitoring and will have DNA test every year for life. He has two boys and my son used to spend most of his childhood and teen years in their home, but he wasn't into boys but girls. He was caught sending a pornographic video oversea. The details of the case no even his wife knows or is allowed to know.
