At least he has the option, where I come from we had to do two years compulsory military service and then be in a "war" that I did not believe in and it was a mind &%$@! Straight out of school and into the reality that I may have to kill someone, I still get chills just thinking about it!

I would never recommend going in to the army to anyone unless they really feel it is their only option!

The dilemma..

Joining the Army would go against everything I believe. The false wars, the brainwashing and the unforgivable thought of murder...

So joining just for the benefits and challenges seems quite selfish to me although it could set me up for a decent life in the long run? I left uni without a degree so jobs are really hard to come by!

Don't. With your attitude towards the military, you wouldn't be a good fit.

I was in the Army for 10 years, If I knew what I know now I would of never joined. Do not join!!!!!!!! I don't think u want to go to war and be part of a war machine that kills innocent people and ruins country's. Not to mention spends billions of tax payers hard earned cash to bomb innocent people/country's. War is never good ever!!

You do not want to take the risk to kill. Don't mess up with that.

You know if heis going to listen to someone on ATS about a decision of this magnetude, then perhaps the military is a good place for him, they will ake the tough decisions for him aswell.

Going into the military does not mean you are going to be forced to kill anyone, there are many specialisations that never see the battlefield.

You say you are 22, which makes me assume you have a college degree?

There is the Intel Field, the Medical Field, Engineering, Logistics, Mechanics...and plenty of other directions you could go into in which you would rarely, if ever have to pick up a weapon. If you were determined enough, you wouldn't have to be a grunt.

You acknowledge the understanding of the "brainwashing" inherent in military training, are you saying that knowing what to expect you don't have enough confidence in yourself to minimise it?

At the end of the day, if you did go in, what becomes of your career is largely determined by you; but unfortunately, sometimes you are tasked to do things you may have issue with.

Think of this, would you trust yourself to do the right thing?

If you say US i say only 2 choices for someone with a brain

USAF or USCG..parents were AF, I was USMC and USCG..about as far on both spectrums as you can get..

Join the French Foreign Legion.

No, really, it's up to you if you want to join the armed forces. Not only will you get benefits, but you will be serving your country, regardless if you go to war or not.

The military has its good and bad points. On the upside, you will be rendered as physically fit as you will ever be. You will learn responsibility, how to finish that which you begin and respect for others.
On the downside, the hours are long and if their is conflict you are thrown into, you life could be in danger.

I found my time to be both rewarding and annoying... but in the end, worth it for those positive things I came away with.

If you do join, don't do the same mistake I did of getting a combat MOS. Try getting skills that can be really useful in the civilian world. I chose Field artillery back then and there's not a single damn use for that now. I got out last year and it did help me get my house project going but at the cost of my mental health from war.

OK OK OK guys! I have made my decision! This has reinforced my initial thinking anyways! The Army isn't for me... HOWEVER... The Local Constabulary Police is for me! I have been in there today and I am waiting on an interview to become a special constable as a volunteer until they start recruiting again! The co-ordinator was around when I went in which was really lucky (like a sign) and he think's I'd be great as a constable so I should get a call Monday! I can still do my normal, 'Cr*ppy* job and be a Police man on the side although it will be unpaid until they are taking on next!

I want to help the good honest folk of society who are victimized by drug taking, thieving low life's! When the Army application comes through the post, it's going in the bin! As if I even considered it!

EXACTLY. Fine, if you want to join the military, it's basically selling your soul. The same way the big multimillion/billion dollar celebs/artists/mainstream media tools sell their souls. You'll lose your humanity for money, and become part of the corrupted system, fighting FOR the new world order and against us, the people.

I cannot imagine why anyone who truly believes in freedom and the constitution would join the military at this point. It is OBSOLETE and is used to for corporate benefit and the NWO, and to suck your soul.

Unfortunately the Bilderbergers have planned this economy to get young people as yourself to consider joining their armed forces....due to their not being many employment opportunities.

If anything at least look at the Navy or the Air Force....there you can learn some technological skills such as avionics and electronics which you can earn a living with later.

As much as I like the gung ho Hoo Rah of the Airborne guys ....there isn't much demand for sky diving assassins in the civilian world/job market .... the same applies to the Marines.

If I were to join the Army , I'd use my language skills in the Intelligence branch....at least you'd work with computers and such. And could work for the CIA later....which is where they like to recruit from because you already have a security clearance and understand the system.

This is also something you could do in the Navy or Air Force.

Whatever you do ....Don't go infantry !!!

How could it be a decent life , when it would involve doing the things you already admit you're against?? From the way you explained your position, you'll be making a huge mistake by joining the military.

You can join and try to help change the system from the inside for the better. Or look into supportive roles in which your helping your fellow countrymen instead of fighting or killing someone, such as jobs like medic, mechanic, technician, the list goes on and on.

I'm against war and all this fighting but that doesn't mean you can't help your fellow troops out and try to help them see the light, one troop at a time. There can be much good done by joining the military, you just have to watch out for any brainwashing and keep a strong head. Remember who you are and let that help you become a better soldier. A real soldier that protects his countrymen against the real aggressors.

I'm not sure how the UK works in terms of enlistment (duration) but in the US, there are contracts for 4 and 6 years for new recruits. If the UK offers the same then you take the lowest and get the longest training and see how you like it. You'll be out before you know it. But that's if your really not sure but at the same time really want to do it.

I'm in the same boat as you, kinda, I just got out of the air force and I am missing the military and looking to joining the Army but as an officer in a technical position or medic. I've been thinking on it for the past few months since I've been out. It's not an easy decision which you should take your time with, especially since you already have a job. Look into every position available and then do more research on them, those recruiters cannot be trusted. I still remember my recruiter and if I could I'd kick him in the balls until my foot gets tired. I'm sure I'm not alone on that last thought .

Take your time and don't forget who you are and what you stand for.

Im a 10 year Army veteran with numerous deployments and I have nothing bad to say about my time served and its because I wanted to, It was a right of passge for me, my father spent 26 years in the Marines and brother was a recon Marine as was my father so I felt the need to spite them both and join the Army. My only advice to you is, join because you want to learn a skill or serve your country, do not join because you need money because if thats the reason why and because your heart is not in it you will hate it. The Army offers some great job training, I chose Infantry and went on to further my Infantry training at higher levels but its because I wanted that. Good luck my friend.

Look man. If you're not joining to serve your country and destroy the enemies of the United States then don't join.

I joined earlier in the year. It's not for every body.

Do NOT make this decision based on pay and benefits as you will regret it down the line.
