F ive days, no charges: Stray bullet victim held 'captive' when cops don’t believe her story

A stray-bullet victim says she was held prisoner for five days at a Brooklyn police station because detectives didn't believe her story about the shooting, the Daily News has learned.

Takesha Griffin, 35, said she was handcuffed to a bench in the squad room or locked in a filthy holding cell at the 73rd Precinct stationhouse during a spirit-shattering stretch last month. Cops asked her repeatedly if she was ready to cough up the real story.

"They wanted me to lie," said Griffin, whose lawyer filed a notice of claim on Tuesday. "It was like 'The Twilight Zone.' "

During her lengthy confinement, Griffin said she urinated on herself when no one was available to escort her to the bathroom. She was also denied a sanitary napkin.

The single mother of a 9-year-old boy said she was given a McDonald's hamburger each day and ridiculed when she complained about the food. One cop sarcastically pointed out that she could order salmon or lasagna from a menu posted on the squad room wall.

"Who treats people this way?" Griffin wondered. "It's inhumane."

On her second day in the Brownsville stationhouse, cops continued to give her grief, she said.

"A police officer saw me still sitting there and said, 'Did your story change yet? I guess you like it here,' " she said.

The NYPD's chief spokesman, Paul Browne, did not respond to messages seeking comment. Arrestees are supposed to be brought before a judge within 24 hours.

NYPD, the worst cops in all America. Another proof of it.

Reminds me of the time I was jailed for 55 days until I pleaded guilty to false charges from an ex-girlfriend, based on the advice of a court appointed attorney who apparently got 500 a head for pushing domestic violence cases through the mill. Big business here in Washtenaw County, Michigan. Everyone makes money off of the ruination of people's lives in this county.

Let's see what will become of this , a cop may get suspended with pay . Hopefully she sues and gets a ton of money . If a civilian held someone like that a whole slew of charges would come out of that, the Attorney General should grow some bawls and charge them criminally.

Ya think? That would be kidnapping, etc... The civilian would go 25+ years in jail for sure.

This happens all over.

They dont want to feel that their efforts were wasted so they push and push to get you to admit to anything at all so they can mark another notch in their belt and feel like they've gotten something done.

Cops all over the country routinely make charges up or push you and question you in such a way that your words will shape a charge for them.

It's not about fighting crime. It's about making criminals.

Dont talk to cops. It's not worth it.

Why do these cops=thugs find it necessary to destroy peoples lives?

Why do we have a justice system obsessed with imprisonment and fines?

Its insane we pay taxes for slaves they keep in cages based on some arbitrary judgement produced from a totally corrupt system.

Justice, lol. Every facet of the system from the cops,courts,banks,army's,politicians, corporation's, etc. EVIL to the core, and it becomes more stunningly obvious with every day that passes.

No I am not the Biblical type but you can see who runs things.

There is a saying most are not familiar with. Its the devils land, but its Gods rules. Many of these aforementioned people have laid their steak with evil, have embodied it, and forced it upon others with false judgement based upon their own false rules. Sadly we will all be held accountable for our actions. This is one of many things that disgust me because we pay them to abuse us. Ridiculous.

One normal Mcdonalds hamburger is 300 calories.

300 calories a day is less than what people in concentration camps had.

Wow, Guantanamo Bay anyone? Police can only hold you for around 24 hours without charges, and they must investigate the criminal complaint you are being accused of, and only that criminal complaint while you are detained. If they investigate any other case while you are detained, your rights have been violated. There is no set standard really for how long they can detain you, but it's usually 24 hours, and usually if they go beyond the 24 hours they'll arrest you for something bunk to keep you. Plain and simple, this woman's rights were violated hard core. It's almost as if the cops treat us civilians like we are enemy combatants, I just don't get it. It also really shows what kind of cruel cowards NYPD is, you don't see them doing this to a lot of people who can stand up for themselves, cases like this usually involve the meek being abused by the cops. SO, SO, SO sick of hearing about the police doing this kind of stuff to people. It's not going to end on it's own, so how/when will we finally stop them from doing this?
