Recognize that EVERYTHING on TV is planned at some level.... every little sign, bush, color, angry word are ALL decided on at some point and added on purpose. This is not conspiracy, it's just a simple fact - directors, marketers, writers, etc do that - it's their job.

That being said what do you think about the message being portrayed in this short Disney clip? It's a commercial (between-shows content) on Disney Kids.

The Oso's Three Healthy Steps.

Synopsis:
(between content rated at 3 years old and above)

* Kids set up a stage.
* Healthy things in threes: oranges, exercise, smiles
* Shutter Bug flies down from the sky onto scene and finds some random girl and her mom at the park.
* They greet the intruder with a big smile and wave.
* Shutter Bug transmits to so some distant headquarters “control room”
* Four animated characters gather purposefully to watch Li Ming doing three healthy steps to swinging.
* All four congratulate Li Ming and offer a “digimedal” for her success.

I'm right there with you! My daughter is three. I let her watch both Nicktoons (fairly often) and Disney (rarely). I think it's better to be immersed in your society than to shun it and go live somewhere with no electricity (for a severe example). She's aware of the internet and technology and also that most king's are greedy and selfish and like to steal from the people (and someday those kings get kicked out of town)

wow! my "(angrily in most cases)" was for you

I'm not going to defend myself against all those judgments and accusations other by saying nothing you surmised about me is accurate.

I am someone who cares about what goes into my daughter's mind, while also allowing her to be part of our society... so yes, I support Disney. I also go to Disneyland once in a while.

Just as nothing you surmised in th OP was accurate. So, we're even. And who's angry? Because it's certainly not me, although sometimes the truth sounds a bit harsh.

It appears that the Obamas have been meeting with Disney, the NFL, and a lot of other Hollywood entities lately.

Multi-layered messages are the name of the game.

Well since "truth" is now being questioned let's just break this down a bit, yes?

This is creepy... are you saying that you watch childrens programming all day long looking for hidden messages? Because that would be sad.

That would be sad... and no, I don't.

Anyways, Disney didn't "say" anything that you're proposing, you're interpreting a kids show (that's telling kids to excercise and eat right, no less) as a conduit of some evil global plan to corrupt our children through diet and excercise? Is that an accurate summary?

If Disney puts something on the air, they are "saying it". Maybe not be actual text, but by message.
If you're going to use the "evil global plan" phrase maybe you could at least get the reason right
A distant control room watching our kids and judging them is part of our world, whether it's an evil global plan depends on your perception I guess... I am NOT arguing that diet and exercise are bad.

uh... huh?
(No, I'm a Psychologist who works with children.)

Lastly, no, not everything we see on TV is put there to brainwash and program us. More often than not TV is just TV, some people find it entertaining, they don't need to brainwash us. I mean, you're glued to Disney, which means more revenue for Disney. They didn't have to program you to make money off of you, you helped them willingly.

The very first line of my OP is that everything on TV was put there for a reason, by someone.... its kind of a definition since it WAS CREATED by people.

Do you, GringoViejo, think we should be teaching our kids and grandkids stuff like this? It could more easily have been shown as first-person at the park and a live, local person rewarding her with a smile and "good job" (promoting personal, feeling relationships rather than some distant "watcher" giving us something tangible and fake)

If you're not arguing that diet and excercise are bad, then there should be no issue with the video. If Disney is saying something it's to diet and excercise, not that there's some secret control room watching you.

The very first line of my OP is that everything on TV was put there for a reason, by someone.... its kind of a definition since it WAS CREATED by people.

And sometimes that reason is just because a person put, or sketched, it there or that way.

And I suppose bambi should be a documentary about an orphan deer? If you have a smart kid they'll realize its just a cartoon eventually. I don't remember how old I was when I realized that essentially everything on TV was fake, but it was pretty young. Until then though, its just a cartoon, which might make your kid exercise more. There wasn't any horrific violence, no profanity, no suggestive humor, no harcore sex, no satanic worship, no drugs, and no bad guy.

But if you still really don't like it, change the channel. You could always get some older cartoons too. My neice loves the pink panther.

Interesting that you say all TV is planned, every word, gesture, etc... and if that's the truth then the message Disney sent to kids with that commercial seems to want to soften their attitudes towards oversight by mysterious overseers who make judgements on us.
Also, showing a reward for doing what the control room believes is right, only encourages them to want to please the control room inhabitants, instead of questioning their existance and their right to oversight.

However, if TV is sometimes planned and sometimes some weird guy writes what he thinks is a great commercial without ever once thinking about manipulation or subversion that would make sense as well.

In order to believe what your saying and agree 100% I require proof that everything, 100% of all TV is pre-planned as a subversive tool to control the masses.

Interesting take on this, I always am skeptical about tv and it's messages towards children and even myself. This helps me dissect it better and be more cautious as to what we may be asked to tolerate.

I sorta think a lot of people are just on autopilot most of the time. If a person is ultra-Conservative or ultra-Liberal, it will be in his or her natural mindset to include certain "extreme" things without thinking. This holds true of many people. Mentioned as you did, I don't believe 100% of things are planned.

But, I do believe that something animated like this, that requires every object, every line to be thought about would require an overall mindset, script, design team, etc.

Certainly the overall concept was thought of precisely - which includes some people in a far away place watching and rewarding and a flying non-manned camera.

Even a single line in this scenario, like the lead Watcher guy asking the audience to join in watching and learning, could change the entire meme/concept.
