"Human. Warp-capable. Origin Grid 325. Physiology Inefficient. Below average cranial capacity. Minimal redundant systems. Limited regenerative abilities." (So says the Borg Queen)

What would our species or planet have to offer extraterrestrials?

Tantalum.

Humans are slow & puny brained, but highly vicious. They would make good soldiers.

They also make great pets if you get 'em young enough.

It would depend each time on what each real or fictionalized extraterrestrial species might need.
Some might need raw material, which, is quite abundant in just our asteroid belt alone, and many other places all over the galaxy, so, they'd have no need to visit us.
Curiosity would would certainly be another attraction.
Food could be possible if an alien species is so closely related to our own physicality that there's compatibility, but, I doubt that would be very probable.
Oversight of a 'child' species that was seeded or developed artificially, or just occurring naturally would also rank up next to curiosity.
Eh, there's loads of reasons, but, Curiosity seems most high.

We would go well with fava beans and a nice chianti.

That is...if they have a taste for humans.

All we can give them is the knowledge of our lord and savior whom if we bow down to we are granted eternity in paradise, otherwise he will light you on fire and send you to hell bitches!

Hot pockets.

Chunks of ham layered with melted cheese wrapped in a tasty, cheesy crust. Servings per container: 2

If that's all we have to offer, we're in trouble.

Coming up with a conclusive answer to your question is impossible without knowing about the extraterrestrials. There are many ways in which we could be unique to them, or them to us. Perhaps we are kindred spirits, they are just waiting for the time to make themselves known to us. We could even be their grandchildren, in a way.

2,300 a Day Reports of missing persons have increased sixfold in the past 25 years, from roughly 150,000 in 1980 to about 900,000 this year. The increase was driven in part by the country's growing population. But the numbers also indicate that law enforcement treats the cases more seriously now, including those of marginalized citizens. An astounding 2,300 Americans are reported missing every day, including both adults and children. But only a tiny fraction of those are stereotypical abductions or kidnappings by a stranger. For example, the federal government counted 840,279 missing persons cases in 2001. All but about 50,000 were juveniles, classified as anyone younger than 18.

www.trutv.com...

I realize many of these are taken by humans but what if there are worker colonies off world?

Adaptability?

Come on, we as a species are like silly putty..
We have people stationed and living in the subzero temperatures of Antarctica and we have desert dwellers living in the scorching heat of the Sahara.

And when stationed in space for even a month we adapt to microgravity.

Seeing your post made me think of a short story written by Terry Bisson. I know has been posted on these forums before. If you haven’t read it before I ‘m sure you will enjoy it. I will include the original story link and a video version for those who would like to hear it, both are great.

THEY'RE MADE OUT OF MEAT

"They're made out of meat."

"Meat?"

"Meat. They're made out of meat."

"Meat?"

"There's no doubt about it. We picked up several from different parts of the planet, took them aboard our recon vessels, and probed them all the way through. They're completely meat."

>

I will close with a less materialistic answer to your original question. If anything I think they would see the earth and its inhabitants as the most magical, scary, beautiful, confusing, unbelievable set of stories ever burned into the universe’s memory. All the childhood books, horror stories, love and life stories have nothing on the real thing. They might not read books being so advanced but we would make a good imprint.

We are highly creative. Able to think creatively, outside the box so to speak. Able to create so much from music to monuments, some things like art, we crate from nothing more than our imaginations into reality.

We are extremely adaptable, capable of surviving and thriving in many and varied environments despite the apparent fragility of our bodies, often with the aid of our afore mentioned creativity. As well, we are capable if adjusting to and adapting to nearly any situation as well.

As adept a we are at warfare, we also are equally skilled with diplomacy, management and organization, and various other leadership skills.

Plus...cookies. Cookies, and an insatiable curiosity and need to discover.

We can't really think outside the box. All we can do is recreate that which is already present in nature, it's all just a big translation.

We are extremely adaptable, capable of surviving and thriving in many and varied environments despite the apparent fragility of our bodies, often with the aid of our afore mentioned creativity. As well, we are capable if adjusting to and adapting to nearly any situation as well.

They would have advanced technology which would render any surviving skills useless. Unless they are prone to locking themselves out the spaceship when they've gone out for a stroll and left their keys inside.

As adept a we are at warfare, we also are equally skilled with diplomacy, management and organization, and various other leadership skills.

They would have something like an AI/robot army which is programmed not to miss. In fact, they would have robots doing all the work so they can just sit back.

Plus...cookies. Cookies, and an insatiable curiosity and need to discover.

That might be something, not the cookies though. They could just upload all possible food there is on this planet and their computers would make millions of recipes of it in the blink of an eye.

There is something to be said for discovery. I can understand how grandparents can enjoy their grandchildren watching them as they explore the galaxy. That might be the only reason, if you take away all the wars, famine, all the negativity and put us on a spaceship we might be fun to be around with. Just good company, nothing more. Kind of like a robot but with real expressions, nothing they programmed.
