It actually isn't. The belief that the Maya believed in cycles comes only from the Popol Vuh. This is a collection of Creation stories that was created following the arrival of the Spanish. Nowhere in writings from the Classic period is such a concept mentioned. In fact certain monuments, such as Coba Stela 1, preclude this claim altogether with their use of large Distance Numbers. The Long Count was designed to run for at least a piktun, although all evidence points to the Maya believing it would run forever. While the Maya did have cyclical calendars, such as the tzolkin, the Long Count is strictly linear.

Yep, I'm willing to make wagers with all the doomsayers so hell bent on spreading fear and (repeatedly, might I add) making failed dooms day predictions.

Sign your house, car, savings and posessions over to me....the world is ending so you won't need them. If you are correct and the world indeed does reach doomsday you get a big apology and undivided attention from me.

If the world's ending it can't hurt right?

Sorry if this offends but some people need to find their significant other, engage in a hobby (aside from spreading doom and gloom) and live it up!

Get your mates together for a Saturday afternoon session on the beers with a BBQ on the go! It's a sure fire remedy to NOT WANT the apocalypse and to start enjoying life.

If people require a friend to invite to said BBQ I volunteer my time and brotherly love (pending location and T&A costs)...I'll be there for you

According to researchers like Ian Xel Lungold and Dr. Carl Johan Callerman, the true Mayan end date is not Dec.21st, 2012, but Oct.28, 2011. That's a difference of 13 months and three weeks earlier than the more modern or commonly accepted date. Why the difference? The researchers claim that the Dreamspell or 13 lunar-month calender upon which Arguelles and others based their calculations does not take into account the quarterly leap day(Feb.29) introduced into the Gregorian calendar by Pope Gregory in 1582, whereas the true Mayan calendar does. This pushes the end date almost 14 months ahead of schedule to Dec.21st, 2012(as calculated from Aug.of 3115 BC).

The National cycle of 5125.5 years duration is broken down into 13 periods or "baktuns" of about 394 years each, beginning on what would in our current Gregorian calender be Aug.11-12, 3115 BC. Generally, this is the period where Law and government is introduced creating national and international activity. There are 13 phases or periods of 7 days and six nights, each period lasting some 394 years

1st Day 3115 to 2721 BC Bronze Age, Sumerians, Anu
1st Night 2721 to 2326 BC Egypt, The Great Pyramid
2nd Day 2326 to 1932 BC Babel, Abraham, Cana, Minoans
2nd Night 1932 to 1538 BC Hittites, Stonehenge, Amenhotep
3rd Day 1538 to 1144 BC Egyptians, Moses, Monotheism
3rd Night 1144 to 749 BC Phoenicians, Iron Age, Trojan War
4th Day 749 to 355 BC Assyrian, Persian, and Babylonian Empires
4th Night 355 BC to 40 AD Hannibal, Greek and Roman Empires
5th Day 40 AD to 434 AD Early Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism
5th Night 434 to 829 AD Fall of Rome, Rise of Islam
6th Day 829 to 1223 AD Papal Power, Crusades, Genghis Khan
6th Night 1223 to 1617 AD Black Death, The Rennaissance
7th Day 1617 to 2011 AD The Americas, Modern Civilization

The Planetary cycle of 256 years duration is broken down into 13 periods of about 20 years each, beginning on what would in 1755. Generally, this is the period where governments consolidate and exercise POWER.

1st Day 1755 to 1775 AD Industrial Revolution
1st Night 1775 to 1794 AD Birth of USA, Uranus, French Revlution
2nd Day 1794 to 1814 AD Napoleon's French Empire
2nd Night 1814 to 1834 AD Electricity, Birth of Computer
3rd Day 1834 to 1854 AD Ant-Slavery, Woman's Suffrage Movements
3rd Night 1854 to 1873 AD The US Civil War, Darwinism
4th Day 1873 to 1893 AD Tesla, Ford, telephone, electric lighting
4th Night 1893 to 1913 AD Marconi, Birth of Aviaton
5th Day 1913 to 1932 AD World War I, Russian Revolution
5th Night 1932 to 1952 AD World War II, Splitting of the Atom
6th Day 1952 to 1972 AD Space Age, Hippies, Vietnam
6th Night 1972 to 1992 AD Opec, Peace Accord, End of Cold War
7th Day 1992 to 2011 AD Computers, 9-11, New Conciousness

As I have pointed out already, the GMT correlation accounts for the differences between the Julian and Gregorian calendars. I have also pointed out that the Lungold/Calleman calendar is much insane than accounting for leap years. However, to prove this even further I've figured out how many leap days there have been since 1582. There have been 107, so I don't see where this claim of 14 months is coming from. The only thing I can think is there is some really funky math where they find the number of years between now and 1582 (429 years) and then for some reason assumed this was the number of leap months(?) and divided by 30 to get leap days. That's the only way I'm coming up with the number 14. The math itself is simple. Take 429 and divide by four as a leap year occurs every four years.

Cool Video, thanks for sharing.

Has anyone figured out the dates of the last "fifth day" yet that we can see whatda?

The fifth day was only about... two months ago, if that. I'm sure there was a very good discovery on that day. I'll make note that OWS started on the 6th day of the 9th level. The 'flowering' phase of the cycle..

Guess we'll see
