Do you think the troops can tell any thing they like? With most West media controlled, PTB can trace back the leaker easily, and will be dealt with.

Are they telling you everything is fine, just as Bush is telling every US people?

If you believe in what Bush/Cheney tell you, this thread is not for you.

This thread is pure comedy classic.

The figures given by ZCheng are pure fantasy. Whatever he may like to believe, there are hundreds of media agencies freely operating in Iraq and none of them have reported the figures that his buddies have dreamt up.

Not only that but, a Chinese nationalist crying freedom for an occupied nation is rather like a cannibal insisting that lettuce is the only way to go.

What next ZCheng? You gonna become an advocate for families with 10 or more children?

Now THAT's fantasy. There's almost no western media left outside the Green Zone in Baghdad. Something about heads... decapitation... no security... really makes reporters nervous.

Where did you get this piece of fiction from?
Reuters, BBC, AFP, other News Corps and hundreds of freelancers still operate outside of the Green Zone. They might return there to regroup and report but they aren't restricted to the Green Zone by the Iraq administration or by the US military.

You obviously know very little about war reporting. Those guys don't really give a # about threats if it stands in the way of the story. War correspondants are a different breed from your average civilian reporter.

Influx of wounded soldiers strains VA

quote:
Through the end of April, the most recent accounting the VA could provide, a total of 166,334 veterans of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan had separated from military service, and 26,633 16 percent had filed benefits claims with the VA for service-connected disabilities . Less than two-thirds of those claims had been processed, leaving more than 9,750 recent veterans waiting.

For more detail please see www.msnbc.msn.com...

============
Above only reflects the numbers by April 1. No consider the Fallujah blunder in April and Najaf uprising in June, the escalation of resistance in recent months, you could get a pretty good picture on the intensity of attrition in Iraq today.

A Guest summaries the situation quite nicely, and allow me to quote as following:
Sheds some more light.
This sheds some more light on the casualty truth.Note in the article above 6th paragraph As of April 2004 some 26,633 veterans from Iraq had filled for disability(that is filled only, not including those too ill to file). These that file are soldiers that have been too badly injured and need disabilty pay,26,633 by April 2004,So serious injuries. We are now in October 6 months further on from April,So that figure must be thousands higher.

These soldiers are so badly treated, because the surgeons are so busy they just patch them up the quickest way.A soldier who has his leg blown partly away,Instead of the surgeon spending the 6 hours needed on the operating table trying to save the leg, takes the 1 hour option of Amputation. This is happening all the times. So many Amputations that are not necessary occur, because the surgeons are overloaded with casualties and do not have the time to save limbs,so just amputate and get on with the next case.Their argument is that because they are hard pushed, other soldiers lives are put at risk if they spend too long on each case.Terrible.

Yeah, but even that different breed finds it a bit difficult to freelance when there are high bounties on the capture of any available foreigners. The only credible people who are able to get the stories are embedded with the US military. The stories from the non-embedded reporters mostly focus on how they survived being held hostage by the insurgents, and or completely report how awesome cool and great the insurgents are. Stockholm syndrome, indeed.

Note to readers:

The Iraqi Resistance Report has been covering the Iraqi Resistance for more than one year. During that time, the Resistance has developed and advanced steadily. It has spread to virtually every part of occupied Iraq and has taken on and destroyed virtually every type of equipment used by the US ground forces and their satellites and stooges.

Media coverage of the Resistance, however, has been extremely poor, due in large part to US pressure. When the Resistance Report began coming out after the US aggression, the independent Arabic television networks and several newspapers were reliable sources for information about the Resistance struggle, providing coverage that was perhaps partial and inadequate in scale - due to the vastness of Iraq - but that nevertheless gave a strong indication of the struggle that the Iraqi people were putting up to the occupiers of their homeland.

The United States, which seeks not only total domination of the worlds politics and economics, but also total control over the news media of the globe, has managed to limit coverage - including that of various Arabic-language press and media organs. While some information continues to come through about the humanitarian disaster that has resulted from the US invasion and occupation of Iraq - to say nothing of the 12 years of murderous US sanctions beforehand - the international and Arab media have generally backed away from any attempt to cover the Resistance struggle in depth.

But the truth will out and more and more courageous individuals throughout Iraq have in recent months been contributing to the website Mafkarat al-Islam or Islammemo.cc, bringing invaluable information from the battlefield itself to the Arabic reading public. The Iraqi Resistance Report has made ample use of the materials provided by Mafkarat al-Islam, as a unique source of information on the unfolding Resistance struggle - unique because they have been able, so far, to defy the pressure of the American empire.

Mafkarat al-Islams brave correspondents have paid a high price for their efforts to report the truth. At least nine of them have been killed by enemy gunfire since the US invasion of the country. On a much humbler scale, websites such as The Free Arab Voice have also paid a high price for insisting on covering the expanding Resistance, subjected to furious Zionist hacking on a constant basis.

Overcoming all the odds, however, both the Iraqi Resistance and our colleagues in Mafkarat al-Islam have forged ahead. Where a daily Resistance report a year ago might run four or five pages, a comprehensive presentation of all the news stories reported just by Mafkarat al-Islams writers in the field now runs to between 16 and 18 pages a day.

Nothing is more encouraging that that the scale and frequency of Resistance operations is increasing at such a rate. Nothing could please us more that information about the Resistance still breaks out despite the US stranglehold on the international and Arab mainstream media.

At the same time, though, the sheer number and magnitude of Resistance news has become too much for effective coverage within the format hitherto used by The Resistance Report. Compiling and translating that volume of material on a daily basis has become extremely difficult. We have also heard concerns from readers that the mass of the report is too much for most readers to digest.

In view of the situation, we have decided to attempt to approach the Resistance Report in a new way, with more of a focus on analysis and organization. If in the past we sought to be as comprehensive as possible - at the expense of an analytical review of the mass of material, and at the expense of covering pertinent political developments - it is our intent at present to attempt to place more accent on the analysis and organization of the news we report, with the hope of:

1. Countering the mainstream imperialist media slant on the Resistance struggle, that appears in its coverage of day-to-day occurrences, and

2. Assessing trends and attempting to provide information on what appear to be the more important issues of the on-going struggle.

Along these lines, the current edition of the Resistance Report carries an assessment of the current stage of the Iraqi Resistance as it moves on to a new and higher stage of activity (see Sunday, 3 October 2004), and the issue for Monday, 4 October carries in-depth material on the car bombings in Baghdad, in particular the one that struck the CIA headquarters, a matter largely covered up in the mainstream media reports.

Saturday, 2 October 2004.

Due to technical problems, the Mafkarat al-Islam news for Saturday, 2 October has not been available for the compilation of this edition of the Resistance Report.

Samarra.

While Resistance sources said that they remained in control of 70 percent of Samarra at the end of Saturday, US military sources and their western media mouthpieces claimed the reverse - that 70 percent of the city had been reoccupied by the US invader troops.

For their part, citizens of the city reported that US snipers were widely deployed on rooftops from which they shot at anything that moved in the streets below. There are dead people that we cannot take for burial and they are being buried in the gardens of their homes, said Ali Abd al-Latif, a 19-year-old high school student.

At Samarra General Hospital, Dr. Khalid Ahmad said at least 80 bodies and more than 100 wounded were brought to the facility Friday.

Dead bodies and injured people are everywhere in the city and when we tried to evacuate them, the Americans fired at us, an ambulance driver told Associated Press Television News. Later on they told us that we can evacuate only injured women and children and we are not allowed to pick up injured men.

Wounded people, mostly women and children, lay on beds at the Tikrit Teaching Hospital.

His pregnant mother was killed said Sami Hashim, standing over a young boy whose belly was covered in bandages. Nearby was a young girl who lost her left foot.

Al-Fallujah.

At least seven Iraqi civilians were killed and 13 others wounded in renewed US aggression against al-Fallujah. As usual, American military statements claimed that the targets of the air raids were strongholds of the elusive Abu Musab az-Zarqawi, a man the US nonsensically calls a terrorist mastermind. Dr. Ahmad Tahir of the al-Fallujah Hospital reported that among the dead and wounded were numerous women and children.

Local residents reported that two houses were destroyed in the US attack on the northern part of the city.

Al-Latifiyah.

Resistance forces on Saturday attacked a convoy of fuel and provisions in al-Latifiyah. Five fuel tankers were set ablaze in the convoy that was traveling under Iraqi puppet national guard escort. Three military vehicles were also destroyed.

US military claims.

US military propaganda claimed that five American troops were wounded in Iraq on Saturday in various actions. Two in a bombing in Madinat as-Sadr, one Marine in a car bombing in al-Fallujah, and two in a bombing in Mosul.

Baghdad.

US aggressor troops clashed on Saturday with Muqtada as-Sadrs Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in Madinat as-Sadr.

Sunday, 3 October 2004.

Assessment: Qualitative leap under way in Iraqi Resistance operations, as US aggressor troops are harried by over 90 Resistance attacks per day.

Correspondents for Mafkarat al-Islam in Iraq believe that coming days will witness a qualitative change in the operations being carried out by the Iraqi Resistance against the occupation. The correspondents observed Resistance activity in more than 50 regions of the country over the last week and noted a marked escalation in Resistance attacks, bringing the total number of operations up to about 87 per day.

The correspondents reported that the operations that they personally witnessed, obtained accounts of from eyewitnesses or otherwise learned of in the previous week were as follows:

Saturday, 25 September 2004. 87 Resistance operations.

Sunday, 26 September 2004. 75 Resistance operations.

Monday, 27 September 2004. 81 Resistance operations.

Tuesday, 28 September 2004. 89 Resistance operations.

Wednesday, 29 September 2004. 90 Resistance operations.

Thursday, 30 September 2004. 92 Resistance operations.

Friday, 1 October 2004. 95 Resistance operations.

The correspondents also observed a clear strategic shift by the Resistance from hit and run tactics to the tactics of relatively quick blows. The new tactics involve attacks that last from two to six hours each. Car bombs are again being used as a powerful and intimidating tactic. The bombing in al-Karmah west of Baghdad was one good recent example of the Resistances new use of that tactic with deadly and targeted effect. In that operation two car bombs exploded on Sunday, 26 September at the headquarters of the puppet so-called civil defense force when American occupation forces were changing their guard and thus had a large number of their forces exposed and in the open. Thirty-five US troops were killed in that attack and eight Humvees, two troop transport vehicles, and one Bradley armored vehicle destroyed.

Thirteen Marines were killed on Saturday when a car bomber of the Iraqi Resistance drove into a Marine column.

In addition to the new and more sophisticated tactics, the observers note greater coordination between Resistance groups with different ideological outlooks. This can be seen in the way that they time their attacks and in the issuance of joint communiqus. The correspondents noted obvious coordination during the week among the Resistance fighters operating in Baghdads Hayfa Street, in ar-Ramadi, Samarra, Talafar, and Mosul. Just in ar-Ramadi, for example, the correspondents noted, six totally different organizations are in full cooperation, each one defending the other.

In al-Anbar, the Resistance pursues the tactic of wiping out the enemy, concentrating their forces to totally annihilate small American or puppet patrols. They attack small columns by breaking them apart and then focusing on the smaller part to totally wipe it out.

The correspondents have noted that in the last 40 days there has been a major change in the military strategy of the Resistance. Observers attribute this to the Resistance being able to draw on the expertise of a number of specialists from the Army of the Republic of Iraq who have been able to make adjustments to existing ordnance left over from before the US occupation to make it more usable and more lethal in dealing with the Americans in the type of warfare being waged in the country. A number of middle-range and short-range rockets have been upgraded with the help of these specialists. The C5K, for example, has been modified from an air to ground rocket for use on the ground or for anti-aircraft purposes.

The correspondents believe that in coming days there will be a qualitative leap in the Iraqi Resistance operations as they escalate to a higher level of destructive capacity.

Resistance car bomb kills 12 Americans at entrance to besieged Samarra.

Iraqi Resistance car bomber strikes CIA headquarters in Baghdad. Twelve CIA agents killed in massive explosion.

The local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported from Baghdad Monday morning that at 10am local time an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter attacked one of the largest headquarters of the US Central Intelligence Agency (the CIA) in Baghdad. The massive explosion occurred near Sadun Street, very close to the ar-Rashid Hotel.

At least 3,000 US security employees work out of the massive headquarters - a scale of operations that strongly suggests that it is the main headquarters for the US state intelligence agency in occupied Iraq.

US forces immediately closed off all approaches to the scene of the attack, preventing the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent from assessing the extent of damage or obtaining information on casualties directly. US aircraft, however, could be seen landing and taking off from the street where the attack took place, loading dead and wounded CIA personnel.

The American Associated Press (AP) reported that the blast occurred at 9:45 and that it targeted a convoy of 4-wheel drive vehicles leaving a complex of major hotels where foreign contractors and journalists reside. The AP added that US an Iraqi puppet forces opened fire after the car bombing, but noted that witnesses observed: it was not immediately clear what they were shooting at. US forces routinely respond to all attacks by indiscriminate shooting in all directions, cutting down any Iraqi civilians who might happen to be in the area.

The AP reported that Tahsin al-Furayji of the US creature, the puppet facility protection service said that a pickup truck loaded with dates exploded as it plowed into the three vehicle convoy. The AP quoted al-Furayji as saying that one of the vehicles in the convoy was destroyed and shrapnel hit the nearby Palestine and Baghdad hotels. The AP reported that pickup truck carrying the explosives was ripped in half with one part left dangling from a shop sign on the opposite side of the street.

In a later dispatch posted at 1:40pm Mecca time, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent presented the version of the incident that he had pieced together from his sources. He wrote that a Resistance fighter driving a 2-ton booby trapped Kia loaded with fruits and vegetables blew up the vehicle at 10am local time. The correspondent estimates that the truck must have been loaded with 1.5 to 2 tons of explosive material.

The target building, an old structure formerly used by Iraqi military industry, has been taken over by the CIA and surrounded by a huge concrete wall. Deployed around it are watch points and numerous inspection stations. Large numbers of American snipers are perched atop the building.

The Resistance driver had to break through as much of that security cordon as possible. The driver headed for the main gate at the moment that a number of CIA-owned GMC vehicles were awaiting confirmation of their identity and authorization to enter the facility. The Resistance attacker drove in right after the US vehicles.

The attack totally destroyed the faade of the building, causing parts of it to collapse. The number of casualties inside is unknown, but the correspondent saw seven Iraqi ambulances rushing to the scene from the direction of the as-Sadun statue, as well as six American ambulances heading in from the road to the Meridien Hotel. In addition two US Black Hawk helicopters emblazoned with the Red Cross rushed to the scene of the attack as well, in order to take away the dead and injured.

The correspondent also saw five demolished civilian cars and the obvious damage that the powerful explosion inflicted also on the walls of neighboring buildings.

After the attack, US snipers deployed atop nearby buildings, the number of checkpoints increased and many more US and Iraqi puppet forces were deployed in the area.

Nevertheless, at 10:25am two powerful Tariq rockets slammed into the ar-Rashid Hotel in the same vicinity, according to the local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam.

In a dispatch posted at 11:58pm Mecca time the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam provided more details on the attack. He reported that the car bomb attack on the CIA headquarters killed 12 CIA agents. The correspondent reported local eyewitnesses as saying that the 12 were killed in three cars - two of them GMC Suburbans and the third a Blazer. In addition, five members of the Iraqi puppet so-called national guard perished in the explosion. They had been stationed at the first checkpoint. (The correspondent explains that the US forces typically have a series of check points outside their facilities, the first one being manned by local Iraqi puppet forces, who are therefore the most exposed to Resistance attack.)

The Resistance car bomb burst through the first gate, following US cars, and then exploded at the inner gate. The correspondent reported that the number of casualties at the inner gate was unknown, but that the large number of ambulances that showed up at the scene indicates a sizeable casualty figure.

CIA shuts down all phones in Iraq after bombing.

After the attack on the CIA headquarters, the US occupation command closed down all telephone communications in Iraq - both land lines and portable telephones, according to Mafkarat al-Islam, which quoted an informed source working in the field of telecommunications in the country.

The source told Mafkarat al-Islam that later in the day, the order closing down all telephone communications was rescinded for the northern regions of the country, but that the shut-down was still in force in the southern part of the country - which was known for having the worst cell phone network in the country anyway, according to the correspondent.

As a result of these and other orders by the US occupation forces which are in the midst of a campaign against Resistance strongholds, al-Fallujah, and the districts of al-Karakh and Madinat as-Sadr in Baghdad are without all telephone communication - landed or cellular - for the third straight day.

The correspondent notes that even though the lines have officially been again turned on, users are still encountering severe difficulties in the use of all telephones in the country.

Car bombing in Baghdad targets recruiting station for puppet emergency forces.

An Iraqi Resistance Mercedes car bomb stormed into the gate of the headquarters of the Iraqi puppet emergency forces in Baghdad near the bridge leading to the ministries area of the capital. The car bomb exploded at about 9:05am local time. It was the first day for the new Iraqi puppet security men to report to this location, that had earlier served private guards, and as a result the recruits were still dressed in civilian clothing.

The local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the attack left at least 45 dead among the Iraqi puppet forces who were awaiting induction into the force. At least 32 others were wounded in the bombing. Five civilian cars were set ablaze by the blast.

Immediately after the Resistance attack, US forces backed by helicopters and armored vehicles surrounded and closed off the area. The correspondent counted at least 15 ambulances at the scene of the Resistance attack, ready to carry away the scores of dead and wounded puppet troops.

Al-Fallujah: vicious US bombing targets civilians.

As US media such as the Associated Press (AP) trumpeted the official US military line that American war planes had blasted the strongholds of the illusive Abu Musab az-Zarqawi whom they refer to as a terrorist mastermind for the n-th time, the correspondent of Mafakrat al-Islam on the ground in al-Fallujah reported in a dispatch posted at 4:55am Mecca time that American aircraft had rocketed the home of a local civilian. Al-Hajj Thamir as-Salim, whose house was destroyed, was a pharmacist who ran the al-Abrar Pharmacy in the city.

As-Salims house lay in the al-Jumhuriyah neighborhood of the city, across from the ar-Rawi Mosque. The home was completely destroyed and adjacent ones were severely damaged and two children, three women and three men and one teenager were killed in the savage American attack. Thirteen others were wounded in the raid - four children, three men, six women.

In a dispatch posted at 6am Mecca time (7am local time) the correspondent reported that US planes were still prowling the skies over the site of the US bombing, making it dangerous for rescuers to approach it.

Not true. There are many freelancers working in Iraq as I have stated. Google their news agencies and you will see that.
They don't focus on Stockholm syndrome as you state. Most try to report on what day to day life is actually like in Iraq.

High bounties don't automatically mean that a reporter will be kidnapped. The insurgents want propaganda too and they recognise that most of the freelance reporting works in their favour. In some places a camera and a press pass guarantees immunity.

well if we follow Zchengs account at the rate of US attrition from his "news stories" there won't be an American left alive in Iraq by the end of the week.

How you come up with no troops "by the end of the week"? Where does the reports state that US troops are disabled at a rate of 20,000 a day?

There are over 140,000 US troops in Iraq. Adding those from UK, Poland, South Korea, Italy, Australia, Japan, and numberous mercenaries, the total of occupation force will be over 200,000. Considering at the rate of 100 disabled (killed or wounded) per day, it can last 2000 days, or 285 weeks, or 5.47 years. If only counting US troops, it will last 1400 days/200weeks/3.8 years. With more troops are called up and sent to Iraq, to your peace of mind, it will safely last till the end of Bush second term.

Resistance car bomb in al-Anah.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded early Wednesday afternoon at a base of the Iraqi puppet so-called national guard forces at Anah, north of Baghdad. The American Associated Press (AP) reported that 10 Iraqis were killed and more than 20 injured. Al-Jazeera satellite TV reported that the car bomb exploded in front of a puppet national guard station as collaborators were lining up to volunteer to fight for the US-installed regime.

US launches offensive on Resistance in al-Yusufiyah.

The American Associated Press (AP) reported that south of Baghdad in the al-Yusufiyah area, more than 3,000 US troops and their Iraqi stooges launched a major operation against the Iraqi Resistance as a part of their strategy of eliminating cities and towns under the control of the Iraqi Resistance.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US had thrown 1,200 troops and some 850 Iraqi puppet soldiers into the al-Yusufiyah campaign.

The operation in al-Yusufiyah in Babil Province follows the effort by the United States to wipe out Resistance in the city of Samarra. There, US forces unleashed massive firepower to kill large numbers of civilians. Despite American claims to have retaken Samarra, nearly half of the city reportedly remains in Resistance hands.

Apparently along the same lines, US troops launched attacks on al-Fallujah and Madinat as-Sadr in Baghdad on Wednesday, in addition to their new offensive south of the Iraqi capital in al-Yusufiyah.

Despite the mixed results from that bloody operation, US forces and Iraqi puppet national guardsmen on Wednesday began sealing off roads leading to Qasir in the al-Yusufiyah area, preventing anyone from entering or leaving, in preparation for a strike on the people of the area. The Americans sent in the national guard to storm residents houses, and, according to the AP had already succeeded in killing one civilian and wounding 13 others. The Americans and their Iraqi stooges rounded up 160 local people in what a local resident boldly told the AP were random arrests.

The AP reported Muhammad Fadil, the 20-year-old owner of a grocery shop as saying, The US military operation is unjustified and most of the arrests are random and it will increase the hostilities in the area. The Americans want to stop the Resistance, which they call terrorism and this is wrong. In fact it is legitimate reaction to the occupation.

Meanwhile, two Resistance bombs, a car bomb and a roadside bomb, struck bridges in the area, as the Resistance attempted to hinder movement of the aggressor forces in the area. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the double bombing destroyed four Marine amphibious armored vehicles, killing 45 US troops.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb on al-Qadisiyah bridge on the northern approaches to al-Basrah early Wednesday afternoon killed at least one person and wounded more than 10 others.

Fighting raged in al-Latifiyah in the same region from about 10am until about 2pm and then continued sporadically into the night. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent there wrote that at least 29 US troops and 72 Iraqi puppet forces were killed in that combat. Local observers put the number of Resistance fighters there at about 250.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent wrote that the US attempt to encircle al-Yusufiyah and al-Latifiyah was aimed at cutting off the supply line to al-Fallujah, a certain target of the US effort to wipe out centers controlled by the Resistance.

US bombs houses in al-Fallujah.

US aircraft bombed three houses in the al-Mutasim neighborhood of al-Fallujah, according to al-Jazeera satellite TV. All the residences were totally destroyed. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that at 4:30am Wednesday, US forces began indiscriminately firing at al-Fallujah, destroying four houses and damaging three others but killing no one. There were injured, however, and they were taken to hospital. Abu Ghazwans family was expecting a US bombardment, so Abu Ghazwan took his wife and four children and slept instead in a clay structure, enabling them to survive the attack.

The local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US forces shelled the areas with mortars. The al-Askari neighborhood alone was struck by more than 25 mortar rounds.

The al-Fallujah correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Americans also fired some 50 flare shells, lighting up the area over northern al-Fallujah.

Meanwhile, US troops cut the road linking al-Fallujah to ar-Ramadi.

Two Americans, three Resistance fighters killed in battle near ar-Ramadi.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired twelve 82mm mortar rounds at the US base set up in an Iraqi Presidential Palace at Kilometer 5 west of ar-Ramadi at 2pm Friday afternoon. After the barrage, a US patrol of four Humvees rushed to the area and opened fire on the Resistance fighters. A battle ensued in which three Resistance fighters were martyred and their car set on fire.

Two American troops were also killed and their Humvee destroyed by a RPG7 rocket.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reports that the number of Resistance fighters taking part in the attack apparently was small and that they were evidently inexperienced in battling the US troops, their only aim being to fire the barrage at the base.

Battle resumes in al-Latifiyah, south of Baghdad Friday evening.

Fighting resumed in the al-Latifiyah area 25km south of Baghdad on Friday evening. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Latifiyah reported that the battle broke out at 6:25pm when US forces attempted to raid several houses in the area. Resistance fighters fought back, however, surprising the Americans with a counter attack in which they used RPG7 automatic weapons and C5K and CBG9 rockets as well as 60mm mortars.

The massing of troops in the area is aimed at closing a pincer around al-Fallujah, as can be seen by the US practice of setting up command posts wherever they penetrate into the area. The purpose of the tactic being to secure American lines of supply for when they attack al-Fallujah.

Truth is first casualty of war. You need to search for it, since most of them are cleverly covered or hidden.

So therefore both sides have had their fair share of casualties
We spin the BS......they spin the BS....we are all up to our necks in each others BS.

US suffers second biggest defeat in Iraq. 80 percent of American forces withdraw from al-Latifiyah - al-Yusufiyah area south of Baghdad after failed offensive.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that under heavy blows from the Iraqi Resistance, US forces on Tuesday completed their withdrawal of 80 percent of their Marine forces from the al-Latifiyah - al-Yusufiyah area, leaving only 500 Marines there.

The pull-back began on Monday evening, and involved withdrawing the troops to three positions. One group withdrew to the US base at Saddam International Airport. Another part of the US force pulled back to the Polish-American base in al-Hillah. The remainder retreated to the US base in the agricultural area northeast of al-Fallujah.

US forces reportedly sustained heavy casualties in the course of their offensive south of Baghdad over the last few days, in particular in incidents like that where a 6-meter Rad missile blasted into an American camp on Sunday night.

The aim of the US offensive on al-Latifiyah and al-Yusufiyah was to destroy the Resistance forces that could encircle American troops when they launch their planned offensive against the defiant city of al-Fallujah. During the American siege of al-Fallujah in spring 2004, the Resistance struck at the rear of the attacking Americans lines from four directions - al-Latifiyah, al-Yusufiyah, Samarra, and Abu Ghurayb. Using massive high-tech firepower and at the cost of heavy civilian casualties, US forces last week managed to take almost half of Samarra out of Resistance hands. The Resistance, however, continues to pound the US occupation forces and their stooges from positions ringing Samarra, denying the invaders a victory there too.

Resistance cuts road shutting off fuel supplies to US forces in al-Latifiyah area, as Americans devise propaganda campaign.

Iraqi Resistance forces in al-Latifiyah have cut the road to the petroleum production station used by fuel tankers that supply the US forces in the area. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that five fuel tank trucks, three belonging to the US military and two owned by the puppet so-called ministry of petroleum were destroyed in a Resistance attack.

Meanwhile the correspondent has learned of an effort by the US military to use Iraqi fuel trucks to transport fuel to the US military. That way, when the Resistance attacks the trucks, the American side can claim falsely that the Resistance is trying to cut off fuel from the Iraqi people. The correspondent wrote that it is likely that satellite news networks might pick up that manufactured American story and try to gain propaganda points with it.

Two foreign truck drivers killed trying to deliver fuel to US military occupation.

Two foreign truck drivers were killed when three fuel tank trucks were destroyed in a Resistance attack in al-Latifiyah, 25km south of Baghdad. Fighting rages on Hit front as Resistance traps US forces.

In a dispatch posted at 6:30pm Mecca time (7:30pm local time) the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Hit reported that clashes still continued at that hour in the area of Hit and al-Hadithah, but that the intensity of fighting was less at that hour than it had been earlier in the day and the previous night.

Resistance forces succeeded in surprising and completely encircling US troops for 24 hours in the ash-Shatt (Riverbank) area in Hit, and extremely fierce fighting raged in that area in which river gunboats took part. The Americans remained besieged in that part of town until US F-16s came in and broke the encirclement by dropping large-size container bombs each full of anti-personnel cluster bombs.

The large-size container is the equivalent of 16 regular container bombs, each releasing 3,000 cluster bombs. Thus a total of 40,000 cluster bombs were dropped on Hit as US forces sought to escape their encirclement. Not surprisingly, the targets of the unguided cluster bombs included civilians. Between 25 and 28 Iraqi private homes were destroyed Monday night and Tuesday in the course of the savage US bombing.

The correspondent described fighting in the city as extremely intense, noting that the Resistance had established its control of the city on Sunday and remained in control Tuesday.

The correspondent noted that the Resistance does not always try to seize and maintain control of cities and towns regardless of consequences because the Americans then often unleash all their high-tech weapons on the city and inflict tremendous death and destruction on the civilian population. The invaders used that tactic in Samarra and before that in Talafar in the north of the country. At times, however, the Resistance does hold a city in order to demonstrate its power to recover cities from the US forces whenever they want to. This has been demonstrated repeatedly in the cities of ar-Ramadi Province, and in al-Latifiyah, al-Yusufiyah, Samarra, and Baqubah. And it has now again been demonstrated in Hit.

So therefore both sides have had their fair share of casualties
We spin the BS......they spin the BS....we are all up to our necks in each others BS.

ditto. to an extent.

there is also the distinct possibility since the "Iraqi Resistance" has no one to account to for their actions, their dead, their kills, etc. that they could easily be lying to make it sound as if the resistance is much larger than it is- thus trying to create some apprehension on the part of the coalition forces.

Sorry,

I dont believe one word of what zcheng is spewing here. 320 soldiers in three days is a roughly a COMPANY of soldiers. We couldnt support those size losses for any length of time. Thats basically 3200 soldiers plus a ton of armor each month. Its more than the entire Vietnam wars death rate(around 32K right?). We would certainly hear more about this is western media, French media if nothing else.

I have relatives in the Army and have served as a soldier myself. Everyone I know (Army and Marines) tells me we are wiping the floor with these scumbag Arab fighters. We are only withdrawing to prevent more widespread civilian casualties / rest the troops.

We have seen time and again how much Arab propaganda props up these truly cowardly and inept Arab fighting forces. Are we to believe that these guys have suddenly become expert guerilla warriors while our troops have turned into the keystone cops? Not likely.

I think well see high levels of resistance in a few cities for the next 6-12 months then things will die down.

Oh, as for soldiers that file for VA benefits vs. casualties. Even in peacetime a LOT of soldiers tend to file with no relation to battle injuries. We had 6 guys in my battalion have to file medicals because of shin splints in just 8 months. Lots of injuries occur all the time (its a rough profession folks) and if its chronic / serious you can apply for VA benefits.

Heck, I could probably get VA benefits for my poor eyesight (worked on PATRIOT missile systems..LOTS of scope time). So tracking benefit filings is not an accurate way to judge causality rates.
