Right now, whats being given as Democracy is "Consensus Decision Making". Its an Old socialist tactic, that never works, because their is ALWAYS a majority. At these OWS protests, you are seeing this. In the French Revolution,it was MOB mentality. Regardless, once leaders are established,in any revolution,Americas greatest fear would be a armed MOB,out for Blood.

And I and many others who wear the same uniform will be there to squash it.

I know that isn't a popular position to take on ATS. But it's true. My oath is to protect the integrity of the Union and the Constitution of the Untied States. Not stomp around and kill people when ever the political winds blow and a new mob wants to run the show.

I am really clueless on the difference between a civil war and revolution.. both seen to spark a whole series of wars and confrontations that take decades to overcome. (does Revolution sound more? sexy? than war)

We had a civil war in Britain (well 3 in a row really) the Parliamentarians kicked the Royalists bums, tried the King, chopped his head off and declared Britain a Republic.. France did something similar and it was called a "Revolution"

Tho both didn't work out that well really.. and both returned to having a monarchy in no time.. the First French republic lasted until 1804 when Napoleon Bonapart declared himself Emperor.. and in Britain we see a similar pattern with the return of Charles II ending the British Republic.

But the fun and games didn't end there for either... Britain then had the Glorious Revolution to change monarchs.. while France had 3 stabs at jumping from Constitutional Monarchy to Republic and back again..

Lots of wars and confrontations in meanwhile killing millions before either stabilised..

On the plus side the process of change during that age up a lot of new things for us the unwashed, like the different Bills of Rights that sprung up

I hope it doesn't all kick off again... and if it does.. many will die and it will take decades to overcome the trauma and turmoil it will cause one and all.

Sorry for the long winded reply..

Edit: to fix broken link *shakes fist at my keyboard*

Revolutions are pretty much the same as civil wars in the classical sense. But not all revolution is equivalent to civil war.

You have a very sober, mature, intelligent, and realistic viewpoint/attitude. Thanks for your service and try to talk some sense into some of these folks on here. That might include me on occasion.
Peace

I'm actually really glad you understand that position and what it actually means.

I am posting here because this topic is highly relevant in today's culture.

We are facing unprecedented threats, including a growing risk of civil war/revolution. I am not saying either events are "imminent" but the ideas are thrown around on a daily basis. I think it is important for everyone to remember exactly how dangerous civil war/revolution is. It isn't some romantic proposition that results in greater good for society - they are bloody conflicts that pit brothers/neighbors/families against one another.

Revolution is a dish best served at the ballot box.

As was written (I believe by the OP), it is the duty of Consitutionalists to uphold and defend our sacred document and way of life. It is not our duty to engage in murder/war for any political faction that takes power. No one should wish for revolution/civil war, as they are indeed wishing for our downfall.

"Protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America" has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with the safety and security of our Republic.

Also agree with this: Yelling at one another is a great thing so long as it prevents shooting at one another.

EDIT: Here is the actual quote from the OP, verbatim.

I've held that position since writing this thread.

It has somewhat matured in recent times to "I will shoot anyone who shoots at me", but that isn't a political position, it's just a common sense one.

Agreed

I think your post is almost prophetic, given the date it was written. It is important that we all wake up to the reality of civil war/revolution, with the clear knowledge that it should be avoided at all costs.

It isn't just at ATS, but YouTube and other forums as well. People talk about civil war or revolution as if millions of our fellow citizens wouldn't be the victims of such a conflict.

That's because people are convinced "someone else" will do it for them.

You know its a recipe for disaster if the revolution is guaranteed to be fought by someone other than you(figuratively speaking).

I'll put it in my thread signature as well. You are right that with all the talk of civil war and revolution, that such reminders might be necessary.

Agreed

It helps to remind people of the other side of bluster & posturing. The detrimental effects of a domestic revolution and civil war would be catastrophic.
