When Ron Paul starts talking about phasing out the republican party, then he'll get my vote.

Until then, he's just another conservative talking head in my book.

i can be as short sighted as i want. you try messing with my loans, im not voteing for you no matter what.

Good, let's keep it in the short-sighted arena.

Either elect Ron Paul who people are claiming will do away with student loans, or vote in some other sucker who "promises to keep student loans" and is lying, so he cuts student loans. Either way, you're fears can come true.

Or:

Either elect Ron Paul who people are claiming will do away with student loans, or elect some other crazy who doesn't have a budget at all, but more spending, who can maybe give you your loans for a year or two, but then have the global economy collapse, so that your diploma is worth the same as the dollar bill you use to light your fires with in winter.

I'm not trying to be a drama queen, lol. The fact is that your education is not worth anything but personal value, the way this country is going, if we don't revert back to what we once were, rather soon.

You do know that if your school closes, or they lose accreditation, your diploma means nothing, right? People still looking for their transcripts: Here or people buy diplomas from closed colleges Like Here. Go ahead and enslave yourself to debt, like I did for something that has the potential to be absolutely worthless.

Student loans help students because it is a way to leverage monies to help a greater number of people afford higher education.

Student loans have a down side. The education institutions can predictably raise tuition and charge "above market" fees and tuition because they know the student can always go to the government "till" and apply for more money. Thus shifting more debt burden onto the student.

Bottom line is that Student Loans do help increase the number of students, ie. increase access to higher education, but this ultimately seems to serve to increase the revenues of the educational institutions without increase in benefit to the students, especially private technical/specialty schools.

The graduates who aren't getting jobs are the ones who majored in outdated or purely academic subjects, or they are the graduates of the technical colleges for things like x-ray technician, nursing assistant, medical office administration, phlebotomy, etc. Hospitals don't hire these people, they hire RNs to do many of these jobs because RNs can do these jobs and more.
Also, these technical/specialty colleges require internships in order for you to graduate, so you volunteer (work for free) at these hospitals and clinics and then they let you go to be replaced by the next crop of free internship labor.

It simply doesn't matter, half the people in college that are getting an education and going to work for a living need and rely on these loans.

So the only way to better education does not end with helping children through 5th grade, but helping everyone get smarter, and further their education. I am almost done with college and let me tell you I was poor, broke, and couldn't afford hardly anything...Until I went to college, now I live in a gated community and have a very nice checkbook, as I repay those loans.
I guess it all depends on how you look at it huh?

Stop funding people for college, that will help America, has anyone ever seen idiocracy the movie?

If you cut away all government financial aid, college prices would drop like a freaking rock because no one would be able to afford the current government rate scam prices. Every college would once again be forced to compete for your hard earned dollars and would have to provide the best education at the lowest price possible JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER TRULY PRIVATE INDUSTRY IN EXISTENCE.

What's more, the total amount of outstanding student debt will reportedly pass $1 trillion for the first time ever this year.

I can't even begin to express how much this angers me!!!!

WHAT is wrong with these people? Why not cut their damn salaries or make the loans more affordable? Or lets make school more affordable?

WHY do I have to pay 80k for a degree to tell me I can be an interior decorator? There is no reason many of the degrees out there cost as much as they do. College in this country has become a complete money scam. It's all about money and not people getting an education.

I have tried to share my story but I get too upset over it.

I could not have said it any better myself. The only country in the world that you have become a perpetual slave to have a college education and a house. I personally look down upon college as misinformation oriented and have learned much more on my own then any college/university could have taught me.

They try to cram a whole bunch of crap on you, within 8 short semesters so supposedly you have a well rounded education. The only thing that is well rounded is the interest the bank will collect from you. Education should be job oriented and nothing else. If you want more, then pay it out of your pocket and don't force me general knowledge I have no use for.

Back in the day college was affordable where you could work and pay. once federal loans got involved the tuition went up.

Universities and colleges are a business. If you stop attending and all the other students under fed loans stop attending they will have to drop their rates to attract customers. so you can start working and pay as you go. It is possible to do that now.

Anytime the government gets involved in anything the price for whatever it gets into skyrockets. have them get out of education and schools will either adapt or die. it's their choice.

Ron Paul is a snake hiding in the grass. He is controlled opposition and gets all his support from the people that forced a downgrading of americas credit rating. They are called the # party usa! I will never vote for that clown and I despise him to death.

They want to privatise EVERYTHING so that only wealthy people can afford many of the basic stuff we now take for granted. The government is not stupid in the slightest. They simpley take bribes from rich folks so the government slams every operation into the ground and those rich folks will then set foot like vultures to devour those operations for pennies to the dollar.

The republican party is not just greedy, they are the root of evil!!!!

This is a little bit extreme don't you think?

But taking away the conspiracy accusations towards Paul, I actually quite agree with you. I don't think that privatizing is a solution at all. It is merely an aggravation. What is it with Libertarians and their blind faith in morally just human conduct? They blame the state for everything. It is really preposterous.

The painful reality which some people simply cannot accept is that government is a necessity, Regulations are a necessity. The private market is a ruthless bitch.

So we need an honest government right....

You are the one that needs to get a clue. I know exactly what I am talking about!

The conservatives have pulled the privatisation stunt on every nation of this planet. "Government is useless, hence it should be private". No, I don't think so! Corporatism is the main branch of capitalism and together they are detroying the fabric of society through greed, consumption/consumerism, neglect for the enviroment, shady politicians, etc.

Correct it was a bit extreme. I am still pissed about the downgrading of americas credit and the fact they almost destroyed my parents social security benefits that they relly on for retirement. They had saved some money in wall street but now that is gone so we need ss to exist. And many other people need ss, medicare/medicaid, unemployment, welfare, etc.

A conservative wants to cut all the necessary programs and keep the military-industrial complex monster that feeds about a trillon per year, if you include all the wars we are currently fighting. it is disgraceful that the usa is considered prosperous by all, yet wants seniors to fend for themselves.

As for ron paul, I think he is controlled opposition and I am sticking to that allegation. He wants to audit the FED which is good, but instead of going to the greenbacks like abraham lincoln did during our civil war, he wants competing private currencies. It will solve nothing and create more problems. Further he would not be running on the republican ticket if he did not consider himself conservative. Please do not tell me he is a liberal because that is laughable.

Libertarians for the most part are extreme conservatives. WORST than the republicans!!

You are someone that is actually experiencing the necessity of a good solid social security system, medi-care and all that. That is good. I mean I feel sorry for your situation, but at least you understand the idiocy of this uber-anti-socialism mentality so prevalent today.(in the usa)

In any case, allegations such as he is controlled opposition sound rather nonsensical to me. But you're free to feel that way, I don't care.

I wholeheartedly agree; further more I will point out something else that should be obvious.

If the number of graduates begins to fall below industry demands-then private industry will step into the void and start handing out scholarships that have a 'work for us for X yrs in return' arrangement. The other thing that will happen is salaries for skilled labor will start going up, fast.

At the moment the costs of education fall on the public, in a free market, the industry will pay for the commodity they need-skilled labor. This will make a more competitive labor market-that means higher salaries, better scholarships and a better standard of education (private industry will demand to get their monies worth, far more than a generally disinterested government who will only focus on quantity, not quality.)

I attended MIT more than 30 years ago and came out with huge loans to repay, but then there were jobs. If loans were eliminated, then colleges would choose from a narrow pool of applicants who could pay.
Once they could not fill slots, they would have to offer aid themselves, or cut their prices, or shut down.
It would be an interesting experiment.
As a student on financial aid, I found the elite rich kids looked down their noses at me.
They jetted off for fancy vacations, while I had to work.
I did not find MIT to be worth it, I could not understand most of the teachers who could not speak English.
To this day I rely on my superior high school education in every aspect of my working career.
MIT was a huge disappointment.
School loans should be abolished.

It is simply the reason colleges cost so much, if you get rid of the federal loans they will have no choice but to make
education affordable to get students. I went to community for my first 2 years so i didnt get saddled with debt, I dont understand why kids have to go to 20K a semester schools when you can get the same education at a 2k a semester school. Americans have to take responsibility for themselves, if you cant afford it dont buy it.

So other people can have the chance to go from poverty to everything, if they work hard too. Do you think college is easy? Have you ever gone? It's hard and the boost they give you with money really helps. I will repay them.
