ATS is a site where many young people visit, many under 18's are members. Not really sure it's suitable viewing

I was in the process of reading your thread.

Were you given an explanation as to why it was removed?

This site is visited by people of all ages, so, I wonder if it being viewed by young people was a factor.

The video was rather disturbing, to be sure!

I noticed many threads about 'what my Dad thinks'. I'm not sure this forum should be open to under 18's. It's not about nudity, more like adult content and modeling of bad behavior by members. I didn't know children were allowed to play on this site! I'm not really comfortable with that.

It may have violated sites TC as the Mod's mail suggested. But that is another latest news and a real life event captured in history which will be censored in the books and elsewhere. Perhaps, western (NATO) backed mercenaries shouldn't be seen by people doing "bad" things.

I agree that's why a warning: viewers discretion is advised was mentioned next to the videos. However, it's interesting to note that the graphic videos of Gaddafi's captures are still posted in many threads. Perhaps under 18 rules only makes difference when something bad is posted against NATO and it's followers.

It's only sex. Graphic violence and Murder is what cartoons are made of. It's in all the kid's stories. No one cares about violence.

Yes I explained the reason Mod suggested it is graphic. I respect the decision made by the Mod but I disagree because I feel it's an important news/ event. You can still find the video by a simple google search. It's allover the internet now.

I'm not sure whether it's a hoax or not but it's not 100% clear if that is what;s happening... although if it IS what is happening... then ATS not really the place to discuss it.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

As you might have noticed, ATS is a little stricter than the average news channel. It is ironic, since things like ghosts, OBE, and alien abductions are common here, but at the same time, it is very family friendly, and there is zero tolerance for gore or drugs or topics that tend to get out of control.

There are many topics that are common on the evening news that won't be discussed on ATS. It just is what it is.

The typical cable news shows love controversy, pain, gore, sex, or anything that might sell another commercial or two. I like to think that we are above that here. Some outlandish stuff might go up, but it isn't for commercial purposes, and nobody here supports over-dramatization or shock just for the sake of shock. ATS is a pretty special community in that regard.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

The Gory Details

For anyone wondering, here's the relevant section from the
AboveTopSecret.com Terms And Conditions Of Use:

15a) Offensive Content: You will not Post forum posts, private messages, PODcasts, blog entries, videos, images, and other supported content, links to images or use avatars and/or signatures that are unlawful, harassing, libelous, privacy invading, abusive, threatening, harmful, hateful, vulgar, obscene, and/or disruptive. You will not use text, images, avatars or link to images or domains that contain gore, mutilation, pornography or illegal content. Doing so will result in removal of your Post(s) and immediate termination of your account.

As with all provisions, the suitability of content and what to do about it are determined at the sole discretion of the staff (that's Sections 17 and 24, et al), with the terms & conditions serving as the basis for decisions made in specific cases.

Not everything that shows up on the Internet, however newsworthy, is appropriate for ATS. Some exceptions do exist, such as the Zapruder film of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, for example, but always at our discretion.

As some of the posts removed from this thread hopefully demonstrate, histrionics don't make a very convincing case for changing ATS policies, nor does attempting to drum up drama by trying to argue about moderator actions in public threads persuade us to reverse them.

Rather, when we do take action, whether regarding gore, other objectionable material or anything else, really, the right thing to do if you disagree is to contact the mod who took action or submit a complaint.

If we made a mistake, we're willing to correct it. If not, please try to work things out with us.

That's always a better strategy.
