I wrote something similar months ago but I guess the way I formatted it on the thread and what not was against the rules and it was deleted. I'm not re-posting it but I am posting this newer one as I feel it not only more relevant now than ever before but also because it's an assignment for my high school English class I just completed that's due next Friday. I figured I might as well show it to you all while I'm on the internet.

We are to write our own declaration of independence, based on the rhetorical model of the original, for anything we'd like. The suggestions were homework, curfews, etc. but I decided to protest something that really mattered with this assignment, and went ahead and wrote one on government.

Many a year ago, on the fourth day of the seventh month, of one-thousand seven hundred an' seventy-six, we the people of these United States declared ourselves independent from the tyranny of the Crown of Great Britain and its Parliament, as a result of their collective abuses against us, which include namely an unnecessary taxation and desecration of our liberties, as well as the subsequent disregard for our protests and petitions to these malfeasant actions that added the ultimate insult to injury. The announcement that we were breaking free of these atrocities commenced our glorious revolution, one that will forever dominate the 1700s and serve as the perfect cause for celebration of human freedom. 'Twas a revolution from the aforementioned unjust governmental influence, and it began with a document, and advanced and completed by the passion of men. Now, the times again make case for another document. . .another revolution.

Sounds more like a speech, not a system of laws. No offense.

But it is a well written speech.

For those who can't see it. Click the link, look to the right side of the authors name (You do realize you are no longer anon, right?) and click docs.

Bam! There it is.

With respect, I feel it's over-written.
I think you tried too hard to be overly wordy in extending sentence lengths and overly complicated language to stretch out the piece so that it would meet the guidelines for length in the assignment.
That critique is not intended to insult you. You've done a pretty all-right job. You can, however, say the same thing with much more economy and effect. Getting too flowery, convoluted or obscure can put your reader or listener to sleep.
Just say'n.

All-right work though. You should consider exploring creative writing.

Yeah...I wrote something similar:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

I have since abandoned the notion of revolution. Especially after I studied the history of revolutions around the world.

If you think for a second that you can reproduce what the founders did you're in for a big surprise. History tells us that the Founding Fathers were INCREDIBLY LUCKY to have managed to stay the leaders of the revolution after the war was won.

Why do we need a new Declaration of Independence? Why do we need a new Constitution? There is nothing wrong with the one we have. People are trying to use the mis-use and criminal circumventing them to get rid of them. Why throw the baby out with the bath water? Its not the baby its the dirt floating in the bath water that needs thrown out. We don't need a revolution we need a restoration.

Yeah a lot of those "Revolutionaries" will be saying hello to God or Satan and when they ask what are you doing here? They will say "Well didn't like they way things were so i decided to kill someone over it."
