(CNN) -- President Barack Obama on Friday announced that virtually all U.S. troops will come home from Iraq by the end of the year -- at which point he can declare an end to America's long and costly war in that Middle Eastern nation.

"After nearly nine years, America's war in Iraq will be over," Obama said. "The coming months will be a season of homecomings. Our troops in Iraq will definitely be home for the holidays."

Hmm...interesting. I honestly don't think it will be done, but that's just me. I don't think he can get all those troops out in time. And even if so, I bet we will be going in somewhere else, so we will need the troops once again. I can't wait to see whats next for our men and women in the armed forces. What are your thoughts?

I certainly hope this is true, but it seems we've heard it before. I would love to see our troops home and safe in time for the Holidays.

Only in an election year. He's probably hoping gas prices hold out until he can get reelected and send them right back. Those politicians are so crafty!

my thoughts exactly- troops will be needed at home if the occupy demonstration make it through the winter. OR it doesn't happen at all.

He was also going to shut down GITMO, pronto, wasn't he? I'm not holding my breath on any of that. The only reason for a withdrawal I can see would be a redeployment to be back-filled with more mercenaries. Buncha BS.
