Since moving into our home, we have experienced small, non-threatening activity. The two previous owners were, the first, a single male who, thru the rumor mill, heard was bringing under age girls into the house and giving them booze and drugs. The second owner was a single female with two small girls. When I found the house, I felt good about the place. I had looked at several other places and often felt not welcome (sometimes, can feel if the house is open or if there is something else going on).
Anyway, recently the activity has taken a turn. My son (19) has been getting harassed. Including touching. Pushing his head, arms, grabbing his legs. He's hearing scratching and ticks and clicks in his room before feeling the presence of something or some one. He heard close to his ear "get the F out" after we went up into him room and addressed the ghost directly asking it to leave him along and not to bother him anymore.
Two nights ago, my wife went up into his rooms and burned sage letting the smoke into the four corners of the room.
We have heard what sounds like foot steps and bumps through the years. Last year, I was laying in bed and heard a loud bang right over the doorway of my bathroom. Sounded like the header was struck with a large blunt object. A few minutes later the door handle on our bedroom door started rattling very vast, almost vibrating. Too fast for the dog to have done, beside, he never does this kind of thing.
I once saw a figure peering around the corner of a wall while I was pulling into the driveway. I could see the figure from the driveway, through the front door. I jumped out and ran into the the house, looked around and found no one. We have a big back yard and that's the first place I looked to see if anyone was running through the yard.
My sons girl friend also "feels" something weird often when she is over. It seems focused in his room. Yesterday, I placed my iPhone on his bed, turned on the recorder and went down stairs. I heard some bumping around and some clicking but nothing definitive. I did pick up what sounds like a clock ticking. It's an anolog ticking that is right in time with the second hand of a clock or wristwatch. It weird because the ticking seems to move in and out of the range of the recording as if it's moving around. I took the iPhone back up into his room and this time, placed it on his dresser. Again, I picked up the ticking at the same volume and it sounds like it is moving around the room. I looked in all the drawers for an analog clock or watch and did not find one. I looked around for the source of the other noises and could not see anything that could have made the bumping and clicking. It was windy out yesterday so my feeling is that the wind was creating these noises. The ticking on the other hand, is not so easy to write-off.
I have advised my son to make a prayer when he feels the presence. Ask for protection for the house, all who has lived in the house prior, those who live in the house now, and to pray for those who will live in the house in the future. Ive told him NOT to confront the object but to acknowledge it and ask to left alone. I told him its ok to ask the Higher Powers for protection and that the good will always defeat the bad as good is just more powerful and that it WILL help him if he asks.
He's been sleeping downstairs the last two nights. Last night he was left alone. I told him that this will probably subside over time and to just try to be strong. That these types of "things" gain strength from our interactions so don't give it too much attention but more, focus on the positive (like prayer and positive thoughts of the house and family). Also to clean and straighten up his room as disorganization can feed negative energy.
So, any other suggestions? I don't want to antagonize this thing but I would like it to stop.

How old is the house? How long have you lived there?

Burning sage isn't going to do anything. It's just a plant... and a superstition. Asking your son to clean his room is another superstitious exercise. There is simply no literature concerning such things. You are projecting onto your child.

I would not rely on rumours as to what has or hasn't happened in the house. It could very well be that you are all just feeding each others fears and interpreting normal things as paranormal. For instance, sometimes mild muscular spasm or nerve twitching can feel like a touch. Sometimes regular settling sounds of the house could be interpreted as paranormal. If your son is half asleep in his bedroom and hears a sound, he is predetermined to think it is now supernatural in nature.

I would be researching any available records to see what has or hasn't happened there. I would not be calling it paranormal at this point. That would be somewhat premature.

Update:

Things quieted down for a while but it appears the activity is returning.

He's (19 years old) complaining again of being touched, having his bed shaken, and he said he saw a hunched over 'creature' walk through his room.
He came into my room the other night (4AM) and said he could not sleep due to the harassment. I went up there and didn't see anything but I did feel a lot of chills. That's certainly NOT paranormal. Anyway, I laid down in his bed with him and he was able to sleep. I did too until about 6A.

Last night, same thing except it was about 1AM and my wife went up there. She said she saw lights flashing and shades changing but did not attribute it to a demon (the flashing lights concern me...I'll get more info tonight. Had to run off to office this morning).

I plan to have a family prayer session later. Have my son, wife and myself up there, praying in the name of Jesus, for unity and love in our home. No arguments (not that we do that), no blow ups (that happens occasionally), no negative thought's toward each other, only positive, forgiving thoughts and love.
See what that does...

I have an email out to my other older son who admitted to doing summonings a few years back, just to see if he could get any action... I'm afraid he did... When I found this out , I cautioned him against this kind of activity. I never knew he did anything in our house.

My advice is that you should remove all the mirrors from your house. Especially any mirrors that are in the bathroom and or bedrooms. Mirrors are often the portal through which the entities are coming and going to and from their usual dimensions interacting with your reality in the process. Televisions and radios too can act as portal. Now in this age of computers we must also warn that the internet, wether cable or wireless makes no difference, can also act as a conduit through which such poltergeists can come and go. Recording media such as a DVD and CD can also act as a paranormal portal too. Every brick and wall of your house can act as a portal. In actual fact the list of possibilities is endless and thus the entities are probably a perminent feature of your house. Getting them out is simply not possible. All that one can do is to learn to ignor them. I know it sounds like I am a disbeliever, but antipsychotic medications do assist in the process of ignoring these paranormal phenomenon. As for myself since my thirtieth birthday I have been plagued by entities in my home haunting me where ever I go. They are rather benign. Not harming me, however they are not always welcome. They could easilly get to be nasty and even dangerous if I were not careful to not aggravate them. If you go around your house listening carefully you will be able to detect with your ears where the entities are coming and going. You could bring in a specialist psychic to do that for you, but with time you should be able to do it personally. The professional psychic will get that done immediately, knowing as they do as regard to what to listen out for, but getting the entities out of the house is another thing all together. My opinion is that the entities are attached to your teenage son. His sexuality is what the entities are interested in. When your son leaves home to start his independent life it is very probable that the poltergeists will go with him too. In other words the ghosts are not haunting you or your house, they are haunting your son. Where so ever he will go, they will go to follow him.
