I'm calling bull crap propaganda on this letter and here's why. My father was a certified public accountant for many years. Every April he transformed into a round the clock, coffee pounding mad man doing hundreds of SMALL BUSINESS returns.

The air was punctuated with the staccato clack clack of his IBM mechanical adding machines and the constant refrain of "Don't bother your father. He's doing peoples' taxes."

I was born in 1961 and fascinated with anything that competed with me for my dad's attention. Over the decades I received an insiders view of loopholes and tax avoidance rackets. Many of my fathers clients were 1st Gen immigrants who had parlayed successful restaurants and dry cleaners into multimillion dollar real estate fortunes.

He was an absolute ace at interpreting never ending changes to the tax code to the benefit of his clients making damn certain they didn't pay one cent more than they had to. Over the years investments in certain products or industries received ridiculous tax breaks. Over night entire industries were created selling arcane tax shelters devoted specifically to tax avoidance. They were entirely legal.

Imagine in 1961 the top tax bracket was taxed at 92%. Income over $200,000 was taxed at 92%. There was quite a financial motivation to shelter income from the higher brackets. Arguments surfaced every election that lowering the highest rates would put an end to the loopholes and arcane tax shelter instruments.

By 1971 the top rate had been lowered to 65%. In 1981 it went way down to 32%. In 1991 back up to 39% where it's hovered ever since.

HERE'S THE PROBLEM. The arcane shelters for the small businesses have gone away but the extremely specific loopholes did not. Instead of being taxed at 92% and trying to shelter some of their money, companies are only paying 39% but sheltering every stinking bit of it. That is why, for instance, GE took in billions of free tarp loans and paid ZERO NET INCOME taxes last two years.

Back in the 60's, less than two decades after the war when all Americans suffered and pitched in, there was an
implicit social contract whereby the companies earning millions would pay their fair share of taxes to take care of the average Joes. Those were the guys working in the factories side by side with the executives all of whom put their lives on the line to make sure there was a free, democratic America in which companies could safely earn
millions of dollars.

With the killing of Kennedy, the BIG BOYS realized they could literally get away with murder. There was no court in which to accuse or try those breaking the implicit social contract. The stooges posing as congressmen were so cheap, they could be bought and sold for hookers and fractions of a percentage.

Today, the politicians have become more sophisticated. They understand the stakes and demand points in the dealings. They want percentage deals and consider themselves minor partners in the rackets.

The graft and greed has filtered down into the ranks of the bureaucrats. Payoffs, bribes and blackmail are used for lavish appointments. Entire families, even clans are hired and given treatment that would make Conrad Hilton look like a piker. The federal budget has grown by 100% in the last 10 years while the rest of the economy has SHRUNK by 15-20%.

In my family's circle, I have watched the perception of appointment level bureaucrats change drastically from that where it was considered at best a noble career for schnooks who really couldnt male it in "the real world" and traded high income for a relatively low but stable paycheck transformed into a perception of made men in a Mafiosi family banking big money on all kinds of rackets while handing out high paying patronage jobs to friends familily and associates.

It's a filthy racket full of no good rats. It turns honest hardworking staffers into wise guys constantly working angles and fighting over power prestige and money.

Whose left holding the bag? The saps known as the American public. Why? Because they are so overworked trying to realize the long gone American Dream while their pockets being picked clean that they buy the tripe peddaled by the Sean Hannity's of the world and the rat bastard traders to the NWO like Joe Scarborough. They also fall hook line and proverbial sinker for professionally crafted pieces of propaganda like the so called real "Letter From the Boss" crap mentioned in another thread including the praises sung by artificial mercenary hacks posing as human beings on this site and many others.

Somedays I feel like keeping the faith. Others I would rather point to the patches on my old jacket reading "DILLIGAF" and FTW.

I think you and the letter both raise good points. A little weird this thread has 23 flags with 2 replies, but anyway the reason for the depression was because the wealthy had too much concentration of wealth. It seems the scale is tipping that way again. I'm glad these fatcats are greedy because if they actually let some of that money trickle down to the bottom the "machine" would continue to work without any resistance, but since they don't the people have no choice but to wake the F up. I can only speak for NY, but from the average working person or that person with a degree or 2, to the small and big business owners, everyone is struggling and it just continues to get worse. As there is less money to go around for the 99% it affects everyone. Eventually it will affect the 1%, but it just takes a bit longer for it to reach them because their money is LOOOOONG.

S&F, just read the original email. Sounds like he is using the economy as a reason to retire. Reminds me of Herman Cain calling those who are not rich lazy. We don't want him to pay more, just his fair share.

Personally the one thing I like about Cain is the flat tax. Get rid of all the loopholes and every one pays the same percentage of their earnings. Fair for everyone.

well stated.
and...gotta keep the faith.

No question that 'letter' is just a fabricated piece of propaganda. There have been several versions floating around for years. Check Snopes. Of course, pointing that out to the thread trolls went right over their heads. Why let facts get in the way of good solid personal prejudices? We're screwed, face it. They've wrested complete control of the country and to a large extent the global economy. And there are enough shoeple out there buying the fear-and-loathing story that they will continue to run rooughshod over the rest of us until we are eventually forced to hunt them down, one-by-one, hiding in storm drains.

It's not about taxing the rich. It's not about 'redistribution of wealth'. It's about having one set of rules for everyone. A level economic playing field that encourages and not squashes competition. It's a system that requires some responsibility to the general good of the country and not a singular focus on profits and the bottom line. These businesses built their fortunes on the backs of workers we all paid to educate; on roads, fire, police, etc. that we pay for.

The wealthy elite are absolutley no different than people like Kadafi. They see themselves as a completely different breed. They truly believe they are entitled to their lifestyles and whatever they need to do to maintain and extend it --- at any cost. They believe that they are inherrently different and superior to us. And that is what allows them to do the things they do without any guilt or conscience. That either changes or it will end very badly. The writing, as they say, is on the wall. I hope they can read.

Well said Sir! S&F

I have been getting a kick out of the people calling the OWS crowd "communists". I was offended at first and then I thought about the circumstances that put the communists in power in Russia. You know what happens to the rich and powerful when the people have had enough and rise up? Ask the Romanovs, oh you can't.

Maybe Cain was closer to the truth than he realized. Maybe they better come out of the buildings and start passing out checks before the people come in the buildings and chop off their heads.

Don't misunderstand, by passing out checks I mean paying their share of taxes to support the country.

Star and flag for you! It's always the ones who can affordit the least that have to pay while others have tax loops and ways out.

The passing of an age is upon us. Many have seen this moment coming for some time, while others are just waking to this impending change. The important thing to note is that ‘people are finally opening their eyes to this broken system.
We can no longer tolerate the corruption that our fathers endured. Change has come. We must welcome it.

Properly starred and flagged.

I'm glad someone said it.

I can't believe some people are so gullible to eat that propaganda of a letter up.

Awesome insight on things! You pretty much summed it up, and 62 flags with just a few replies proves you said it all, LOL!

The solution is strict term limits at all levels, with campaign finance reform on a huge scale, a flat tax or fair tax system. Repealing of the majority of the laws, and get the politicians out of politics. Make it an honorable public service again, where a small business man can go do 1 or 2 terms and then return back to their business.

I think Ron Paul is a good start, but it will take a much larger overhaul. One man, or one party, isn't going to do it. I think Ron Paul, plus the Tea Party, plus the OWS folks, plus a vigilant and active, verging on violent populace can turn the tables. Hopefully, because if we don't turn them by political means, then force is the next logical development.

can someone post the "leter from a boss" I'm not sure what your talking about.

op your words do ring true. here in canada farmers do the same thing. you have a trucking business and a farm. If you make to much trucking, then you buy a new tractor for the farm so you pay almost no tax. if the farm makes to much money then it buys the truck new tires or trailer or a new truck. same idea in a smaller way!

So, im not sure how to take this. Are you mad that people who make over $200,000 try and keep as much money as they can instead of giving it to the government to dole out? Last I checked, the government didnt do such a great job at giving out money. Hell, if I ever make more then $200k (not likely), I hope I get to keep as much as possible of it instead of giving 92% to of it to the government...that is just rediculous.

Wow so succinct.

It is a shame the tea partiers and OWS people cant get past the surface of one another to realize they both want the same thing.

The corruption and graft taken out of DC.

Tea partiers see this being accomplished by reducing the revenue stream as much as possible (starving the beast), OWS wants it done by using its own power against it (passing legislation); when in reality both are needed.

I may not be able to prove DC is corrupt beyond anything Enron could have dreamed of, but I like many others know it in our gut that things have become demonic over there.

I long for someone who can bridge the gaps between these two very similar goal oriented groups and really get whats needed done.

Term limits all around, corruption and or defrauding the govt punished as treasonous acts (which they truly are). And maybe even removing the money from elections.

In my worldly dealings (I'll leave the otherworldly dealings for another thread), I've come to the full understanding that life itself is nothing more than a pyramid scheme.

There is hardly any room at the top and it is lonely. The whole world is literally like one big fiefdom (look it up if you dont know the meaning), and the 99% are the serfs, peasants, call them what you will. The politicians are like the noblemen, or those who have wealth but no real power of authority, and then there's there are the Kings, the bankers, the wealthiest of the wealthy, who hold the purse strings, the puppet strings, the food supplies, and Life itself.

I believe that at one point even the wealthy founding fathers believed that the masses should at least have the OPPORTUNITY to work hard and better themselves. Maybe even be born poor and die rich, all resulting from hardwork.

Then I believe something happened. The wealthy realized they didnt like the fact that Joe Blow could work hard and actually make something of himself. If everyone did this, there would be no one left at the bottom to carry out the dirty work. Thus, they decided to go back to the feudalistic system, thinking people wouldnt notice.

Why is it that I everyone I know who has an impressive degree is struggling and cant find a job, even at starbucks?

Why is it that I am lucky enough to have a great job, with security, full benefits, wealth, and a hope for a future?

Very simply, because of who you know.

Nowadays, the propaganda machine is working full throttle from every different political spectrum and causing a lot of misunderstanding, confusion, and division among people where there should be none. Somehow, in many ways, I feel this is by design. The OP, for me, rings true based on things I've learned over the years about "the powers that be", the inner circle, the big players, etc. "The Letter", as referenced by the OP, does hold some truth for certain cases such as small business owners. I'm sure many can notice that the world is catering more and more to corporate landscape. The financial world, as well as government tends to be hostile toward small business which can either dissolve or become bought out/taken over by a larger corporate interest. The tax system seems designed for this.

Unfortunately, this "Letter" can also be used as a propaganda tool for those who have indeed learned to play the system. I feel that there is a level of "people" who laugh at our political distractions such as "socialism vs capitalism", etc. We are constantly being led to look in the wrong directions for solutions while the big players continue to suck all of the life out of our country and world. There must truly be a sick mentality at work. I hope people continue to wake up....the OP earns my S+F.
