They say they dumped eight TONS of bunker buster bombs on a place that Saddam was said to be in. On question, eight TONS?!? Isn't that over kill?

And now they say they having problems identifying remains due to the fact there are so few. What do you expect? The crater is over thirty feet deep and quarter mile wide!!!!!

you aren't aware of just how much firepower it takes to reach hardened bunkers deep underground....

Not overkill at all...in fact, it might not have even gotten deep enough to penetrate the bunker below....still!

Fromall of the stories I have been reading, they only dropped four tons of bombs on where they think Saddam was . They dropped (4) 2,000 pound bombs which comes out to be four tons which I dont think is overkill since they said their source of them being there was very good, I hope they got him.

The first two were dropped to soften the target...then, the next two dropped were fused, to detonate after burrowing, to get the bunker...

Well yeah, 8 tons only means 4 bunker busters in the first place. Secondly, these bunkers aren't just underground rooms dug in somewhere. They're highly reinforced and very thick. The function of a bunker buster is to break through those layers before setting off the explosion. They actually penetrate the concrete (a feat that a smaller weapon would not be able to accomplish) and then they detonate. Now the issue is the thickness of the bunker so you can't really drop one and hope it'll take care of the whole business. Chances are all 4 missiles were launched by one plane in which case it's really not anything abnormal. It just comes down to wanting to be guaranteed that the target (which was highly recommended by intelligence services) was completely taken out.

Just to clarify, 4 bunker busters is only equal to 4 tons as 2,000 pounds is equal to one ton. Not trying to be picky, just trying to keep the facts straight.
