Letter to Moore

Has anyone seen this yet? I got it in an email:

You may recall, the Aladdin Casino in Las Vegas "threw out" Linda
Ronstadt for her anti -American stance and song dedication, while
performing one evening this last July. Well, this action caused Michael
Moore (Director of "Fahrenheit 9/11") to send a strong letter of
complaint to Bill Timmons (President of the Aladdin Hotel and Casino).
Here is his letter, and the reply from Mr. Timmins. After reading the
letter, PLEASE read Mr. Timmons' response............it is excellent!

Dear Mr. Timmins:

I understand from the news reports I've read that, after Linda Ronstadt,
one of America's greatest singers, dedicated a song to me from your
stage on Saturday night, you instructed your security guards to remove
her from the Aladdin, which they did.

What country do you live in? Last time I checked, Las Vegas is still in
the United States. And in the United States, we have something called
"The First Amendment." This constitutional right gives everyone here the
right to say whatever they want to say. All Americans hold this right as
sacred. Many of our young people put on a uniform and risk their lives
to defend it. My film is all about asking the questions that should have
been asked before those brave soldiers were sent into harms way.

For you to throw Linda Ronstadt off the premises because she dared to
say a few words in support of me and my film is simply stupid and
Un-American. Frankly, I have never heard of such a thing happening. I
read that you wouldn't even let her go back up to her room at your
hotel! Are you crazy? For crying out loud, it was a song DEDICATION! To
"Desperado!" Every American loves that song! Sure, some people didn't
like the dedication, and that's their right. But neither they nor you
have the right to remove her from your building when all she did was
exercise her AMERICAN right to speak her mind.

Of all the things that go on in Las Vegas, this is what creates the need
for serious action? What about the other half of the crowd at the
Aladdin who, according to the Las Vegas Sun, cheered her when she made
her remarks? Did you throw them out, too?

I think you owe Ms. Ronstadt an apology. And I have an idea how you can
make it up to her -- and to the millions of Americans you have offended.
Invite her back and I'll join her in singing "America the Beautiful" on
your stage. Then I will show "Fahrenheit 9/11" free of charge to all
your guests and anyone else in Las Vegas who wants to see it.

Mr. Timmins, as the song "Desperado" says -- "Come to your senses!" How
can you refuse this offer? I await your reply.

Attention: Michael Moore,

In response to your letter dated July 20, 2004: You are correct that I
had security remove Linda Ronstadt from Aladdin Casino and Hotel where
the fun never ends and everybody wins.

How very interesting to learn you are such a fan of Ms. Ronstadt. You
questioned where I live and surprisingly knew Las Vegas is in the
UnitedStates. You should visit it sometime. There are thousands of
wonderful 'All You Can Eat' buffets.

There are also a lot of casinos who's owners don't **** around. I am
aware of the First Amendment and you have the right to talk about your
hatred of America but once you are on my property and you are upsetting
my guests, you will quickly learn about my rights.

I can't remember if it was Jesus or George W. Bush that said, "Freedom
is a two-way street." Ms. Ronstadt learned this long before I had her
thrown out of my casino. You question my actions? If you come onto my
property and upset my guests, you will receive the same, if not worse,
treatment than Ms. Ronstadt received. I am sure your mere presence would
upset my guests.

You claim your film, "...is all about asking the questions that should
have been asked before those brave soldiers were sent into harms way." I
think your film does nothing but aid the enemy and hurt our troops. You
have betrayed our troops, our leader and America. I have no respect for
you or your vision of what America should be.

I paid Ms. Ronstadt to entertain my guests, not divide them. The half
that did not leave probably thought the verse you mentioned, "Why don't
you come to your senses" was addressed to you. Maybe she should have
dedicated her song,'You're No Good' to you. I would have asked her back,
had she done that.

Regarding your request for me to apologize to her, have you and her on
my stage singing anything about this Country and then playing your piece
of **** film is ludicrous!

One of my workers is currently throwing away every complaint letter from
brainless followers of you, claiming they will never visit my Casino. I
could not be more pleased to know my casino and hotel will always be
void of the kind of people who support you. Meanwhile, my hotel has been
quickly booked solid for the rest of the year with true Americans who
love this Country and support our efforts overseas.

They will see a framed copy of your letter and my response in the lobby
to ensure they begin their experience with a laugh.

I found the email midly amusing, but still support Moore's argument because the First Amendment should not be violated in the way that it was, after all, she did wait until the encore to bring up her political views anyway, so the people had already gotten their moneys worth.

well things has certainly changed a lot since the incident you got the email about ,read below, I only posted part of the article, it came from Moore's website at www.michaelmoore.com...
While I like Moore I have to say that she Ronstadt should have realized that she had people there to hear her sing not her political views and stuck to the music but I also feel the club over reacted and should have let her know this after she did this the first time instead of kicking her out. JMO

Linda Ronstadt and Michael Moore to Sing "America the Beautiful" at the Aladdin?


Michael Moore said the following regarding Robert Earl's gracious welcoming back of Linda Ronstadt:


"Robert Earl is as brave as he is courageous and I tip my baseball cap to him for having the guts to do the right thing. I look forward to joining one of America's great entertainers, Linda Ronstadt, on stage this fall when Robert Earl assumes control and brings back to the resort-casino both the magic of Aladdin and respect for the First Amendment of the United States."

LAS VEGAS - One of the partners buying the Aladdin hotel-casino said singer Linda Ronstadt would be welcomed back to the property after the performer was kicked out over the weekend by current management for praising filmmaker Michael Moore.

Planet Hollywood CEO Robert Earl of Orlando, Fla., said he'd like to take Moore up on the filmmaker's offer to join Ronstadt on Aladdin's stage and sing "America the Beautiful" when Earl's management team takes control of the bankrupt casino, as early as September.

"We respect artists' creativity and support their rights to express themselves," Earl said in a statement Wednesday. "We were very sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances of this past Saturday night and want to make it clear that Planet Hollywood has never, in our 13 year history, restricted any artists' right to free speech and we will continue with that policy once we take ownership."

Current Aladdin President Bill Timmins, who is British, had Ronstadt escorted off the property after her concert because she called Moore a "great American patriot" during a prelude to her encore.

i strongly believe that i have the right to tell anyone to leave or 'stfu' on my premises, and i couldn't care less what anyone else thought...

You have no rights at work that the corporate master doesnt want you to have, or must by law accomodate you with.

And some of you dont trust the government?

NEVER trust a big company, ever....they exist for one thing...
profit.

They would lay you off and send your job to china if it would save them pennies on the dollar.

You have the right to be a corporate drone

you have the right to be judged guilty before innocent and pee in a cup to get a job

You have the right to be hired and fired for any reason at any time and have no recourse.

You have the right to not be hired for anything in your backround check that the company might deem unnaceptable, whether it was illegal or not.

you have the right to shut up, and not question the corporate authority.

I also think the responce from the hotel/casion is fake, no real executive would have used such language in a response to a high profile person like MMoore.

That guy isn't posting anything in his lobby. He went out of business and got bought like the next week.

Rondstadt was already invited back since then.

Though the former owner isn't welcome now.

I received that email and trashed it. No corporation would write a letter like that.

Ten Guy, Moore's or Rhondstat's rights were not violated. The 1st Amendment keeps the government from throwing you in jail for shouting that the emporor has no clothes on, it does not mean that private citizens have to suffer your views on their property, or in their place of business. There seems to be a misunderstanding on that right along with others.

Interestingly enough, though, we now have a politician who is also a candidate for the presidency that has loosed his legal hounds upon a group of veterans he wishes to silence. This is more along the lines of what the 1st amendment was to protect, yet I doubt there'll be a mention of that by any news agency. Notice that even though Moore ran very fast and loose with the truth, at times taking leave of the concept of truth, he hasn't been sued into silence. Of course, we're talking about some guy who's only taking advantage of the gullible in a political way and making a mint. I wish I'd thought of that concept!

The posting business was already dealt with by feyd.
The former owner is still welcome.
And he didn�t go out of business the Aladdin was in bankruptcy long prior�
I don�t believe he was the owner, just the president.
And more than likely the invite is more of a publicity stunt by the new group than anything else.
Also she was booted for a full night of fairly impressive behavior not just for her shot taking, but apparently for a crappy performance.
TC already covered the 1st stuff.
