I believe I can climb!!!! I believe I can climb.......

Three veterans products of the ElectroMotive Division of General Motors grind up Scary Hill just west of Saint Albans, West Virginia as they bring a freight train for Russell, Kentucky through a rock cut known as "Big Rock" on the railroad.

I just replaced my computer, but due to a catastrophic failure of my old one (and my separate back up files) I lost most of my old pictures. Also, since I haven't been able to get out lately and take any more pictures due to work, I decided to mess with a few parts of Photoshop I've never delved in to, specifically layer masking and composite imagery. So, I took three of my own images and made one new one. Here's the result!

Sure, here you go:

The base image, an office building in downtown Charleston, SC:

The sky, a sunset taken over a marsh on Edisto Island, SC:

The Lightning, a stroke of luck taken from my front yard a few years ago:

The final image took a lot of layer masking, some distortion and perspective change on the lightning bolt, along with a TON of fine detailing of the lightning edges. I topped it off with a black and white layer, burned some shadows to darken the image and increase the gloom, and finally added a layer of motion blurred noise to produce the rain.

Looking through the four tenths of a mile long "Tunnel #3" not ten minutes before an eastbound coal train came through. This is located along the former Norfolk & Western Chicago, Illinois to Norfolk, Virginia mainline now a part of Norfolk Southern's Pocahontas Division just north of Stepptown, West Virginia along Norfolk Southern's Kenova District.

Here is that said coal train coming through the tunnel right after the photo was taken. You could feel the cool air being pushed out with a little bit of force as it entered the tunnel.
