Recently I had a cold and NeoCitron and NyQuil weren't working so I tried a variation of a couple of hot toddy's.
And I call it the "Super Hot Toddy" because of all the ingredients it takes. Anyways I had trouble sleeping because I was so sick, and the stuff that usually put me out wasn't working, I tried this about an hour before I went to sleep and I was gone for the night. A good nights sleep really helps recover from sickness.
Here are the basic ingredients, it is a large drink.

1 Cup of boiling water.
1-Cold remedy type tea - available at most health stores.
1-Tablespoon of organic Honey
2-Fl. oz. of 92 proof rum
1-Cinnamon stick
2-Fresh Lemons-Juice them
1-pinch of Nutmeg
1-pinch of cayenne pepper
3-whole cloves.

Desolve the Honey in hot water
Add all other ingredients and the lemon juice last, let steep for 5 minutes, remove tea bag and cloves.
Enjoy, it is a strong drink with a unique taste. And It works.

I don't drink alcohol...so...do you have a suggestion for a substitute for the rum?

Ill save this and try it if I need it.
How did it compare to store bought medicine as far as symptoms?

I hot toddy has alcohol, it isn't one without it. You could try it minus the rum, but from what I have felt and tasted the alcohol plays a part in the interaction of how it works and tastes. In the morning when I was sick I can't drink that alcohol either because I will be driving, I would just do a hot water lemon and honey drink, and drink it on the way to work. It's ingredients are much simpler, filtered hot water, one tablespoon of organic honey, don't use the cheap junk, a 1/2 shot glass of lemon juice. Works wonders on a sore throat.

The sleeping part was the most noticeable part, I never woke up once in the whole night, whereas coughing & blowing my nose and spitting phlegm was waking me up, with the other stuff. Which had always worked for me in the past, maybe it was a more aggressive bug, not sure.

Yum, yum...
Thank you for posting this recipe. I'm just now getting over the cold from Hades and wished I had this sooner, but I'll remember for the next cold from Hades.

I too use a similar remedy for my colds;

3/4 cup of hot water
2 tea spoons of honey
1 full lemon ( juiced )
top up cup with whiskey and stir to the left !!!

i find the honey helps with a sore throat , and the lemon dries up the mucus in the nose and throat,
the whiskey is purely medicinal you know, but it does help with having a good nights sleep.
