1) End the stupid wars around the world that are doing nothing measurably good.

2) End the drug war and legalize/decriminalize it all with common sense laws to ensure purity, frank discloseure of risk, and proper education on effects and dose.

3) Make it very clear if we are attacked we will fight back without a "half hearted" effort, we have nukes and we will use them if we have to.

4) Start a new industrial based economy that encourages the recycling of industrial waste products as raw materials for other industries.

5) Put the people on welfare programs to work so they could learn to earn their keep.

6) Get rid of the stupid tax laws that allow the super-wealthy to hide their wealth while some poor janitor has 1/3 of their money taken away.

7) Put the "charitable" free ride welfare back into the hands of private organizations like community churches etc.

8) Debt and Drug War prisoners will get complete amnesty.

9) Pare the government to the basic necessities of military defense, Intelligence services, and diplomatic relations. Most of the other government services will be axed and put into the hands of the states.

10) Encourage the states to make their own social welfare programs that are focused on rehabilitation services for example, get people to quit abusing drugs, get job/career location and training, prison exit counciling with career placement to help prevent return to prison, aid programs for higher education, and to help people get out of debt.

If you were a dictator, what would you do?

Here is my 7 steps plan:

1. abolish all secret agencies and black budgets
2. investigations in all "secret affairs" as JFK, 9/11, Fast & Furious and such. Maybe ask ATS'members to be in the Jury.
3. Abolish corruption: corporations are not allowed to pay politicians nor media nor army.
4. Control the financial sector; all banks have to have at least 51% coverage by equity capital, no bailouts. no mergers allowed.
5. Public healthcare for everyone (paid in ratio to income)
6. Reinstall democracy
7. Then I would retire. (And probably be the first dictator who get out alive ;-)

I would nuke the entire planet and get this goddamn misery over with.

Interesting.

Honestly I'd start really harsh.

I'd legalize all drugs.
Completely eliminate several ABC agencies.
Completely eliminate all welfare programs.
Expand medicare to be a national level one payer system for every person with a social security number.
Give criminals back their rights once they've served their time.
Institute a national level castle doctrine.
Completely remodel the justice system so that the burden was directly on the Plaintiff in all cases.
Require that all police activity be reviewed by a civilian review board.
Nationalize all police into one system with 4 classes of officer. Beat cop, County cop, State cop and Internal Affairs.
Eliminate corporate citizenship and adopt an import export system very much like the Chinese have, tax breaks for companies who keep jobs at home, penalties for those who move jobs away.
Require all banking/financial/insurance institutions go through quarterly reviews by a central federal authority. Ban private sector professionals from working in Government agencies within 5 years of having worked for a private company.
Take all utilities, Water, Power, and Sanitation under one federal agency. Private companies would still be allowed to create power plants, water plants and so on, but they could only sell directly to the federal agency.
Implement the "Grid" system at the federal level and then allow for private companies to lease time and bandwidth.
Create high speed trains from the east coast to the west coast and perpendicular trains north and south every 500 miles.
Implement a secure eVote system within the "grid" so that each social security number has a single vote on specific issues.
Keep the senate but limit senators to 10 years total service. Eliminate congressman altogether.
Establish a veto process for supreme court rulings that would be based on a standing populace vote.
Reform the Army to being active duty soldiers and standby soldiers. Less active duty, more standby. The objective being focused on smaller scale conflicts that act more as peace keeping activity and moderate scale conflict intervention.
Implement a consumption tax in tandem with a "holdings" tax. This way thrifty people pay less taxes than people who use more of the system. At the same time, if you become a horder, you end up paying a penalty for hording money.
Implement a separate tax system for Businesses that become Incorporated or are larger than 200 employees. A scaled tax system based on the size of the company and it's scope of effect on the nation.
Implement a system where new countries can self apply to become new states of the Union, or regions and counties and provinces in one country can apply to be new States of the US.
Convert the US Navy from maritime efforts and focus them on military defense and exploration of Space. Refocus the Marine corps to be extra-atmospheric specialty.
Refocus the Air Force on construction and infrastructure support and air superiority.

I'll probably be editing this more. I've run out of interest in typing out the rest of it a the moment.

Great post. I would give every person in the world1 million credits. (its only paper money but i.e.£ or $ etc), create a system where tax is payable at a reasonable rate to cover costs of development, true government etc.
Incorporate a system of bartering of goods.

Everyone over 25 to recieve or when they reach 25 ( too young otherwise and may squander the credits).

Give additional incentive i.e say 500,000 credits to go to areas of underdevelopment so not to place to much stress on cities. Why do we need money? Just have credits! Everything would be just great, no poverty or hunger in the world! A portion of taxes dedicated to true and alternative medicine, medical science and new technology.

Divide the world into smaller zones/areas (decentralise) and to be democratic and representative. Keep basic education but as a child develops assist them with education to develop their own skills and talents in the areas they choose.

Go for increased natural energy systems, recycling etc

Unite all world religions in the fact there is only one God and at the same time allow all non believers there right to make that decsion and have it respected.

The freedom of travel and liberty of expression within a judicial system that really works.

I could add a lot more but thats a start. Any comments?

I would completely reform all branches of government, the legal code, and the election process.

I. Elections:
1. As long as one pays taxes and they are not a felon, they can vote for Representatives.
2. States would elect Senators.
3. Political Parties and primaries would be abolished.
4. Voting age pushed to 21.
5. Elections would be considered national holidays.
6. Standard terms of 4 years for all elected officials. A limit of two consecutive terms.
7. To be elected or appointed to federal office, one must have performed federal service and pass civic examination.
8. The Electoral College would be reformed into a College of Executive Electors. This College would be composed of all Representatives, Senators, and new officials known as Tribunes. (See Legislature for more on the Tribunate)
9. As part of the new flat and fair, Financial Activity Tax, all political donations and contributions would be taxed.

II. Legislature and Law:
1. Congress would be given a new third house, known as the Tribunate, 13 members elected by the House of Representatives. It would have the power of Judicial Review and its duty would be to review all legislation before it is given to the President, making sure the legislation is constitutional. By law, they must review all of it. They would also have the power to review any Executive Decree or Edict. If either legislation, decree or edict is found to be unconstitutional, the Tribunate have the power to veto it. To challenge and overturn a Tribunate veto, a case must be brought before the US Supreme Court.
2. Elimination of the income tax, replaced by an optimal, flat and fair, Financial Activity Tax applied to any and all financial transfers and transactions.
3. A one time only, 15% Capital Asset Tax, used to pay off the national debt.
4. English established as the official language of the federal government.
5. Charitable donations no longer used as tax deductions and no organization would have tax exempt status.
6. Retirement age pushed to 70.
7. The establishment of an energy standard monetary system backed by the fossil fuel reserves of the US.

III. Executive:
1. The establishment of the Presidency as Executive Sovereign, with the perogatives of Executive Assent and Edict. Veto could be overturned with a 2/3 majority of Congress. Edicts could be reviewed and vetoed by the Tribunat.
2. The President would appoint a Prime Minister to oversee civil and domestic affairs. The PM would select civil and domestic cabinet heads, including the Department of Justice, Treasury, Commerce, Interior, Agriculture, Energy, Transportation, and Health.
3. The Dept of Labor would be absorbed by Agriculture, becoming the Deparment of Agriculture, Industry and Labor.
4. The Departments of Education and Housing would be asborbed by Health and Human Services, becoming the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
5. The Dept of Homeland Security would be absorbed by the Defense and Justice Departments.
6. The establishment of a continental joint security and energy consortium with Canada and Mexico.
7. Establishment of a National ID and identity database, contolled by the Justice Department.
8. Establishment of the United States Border Guard, a military and law enforcement entity similar to the Coast Guard, but operates on borders of the US. It would replace U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
9. The establishment of 12 Orbital Expeditionary Strike Groups and 12 Transatmospheric Airlift Squadrons, that would replace the need for any forward basing outside the continental United States.

Then I would retire to my villa and go fishing.

I would write a Constitution based entirely on the rights of the individual(including property, contracts, arms...etc) and then abdicate power.

First I would kill all the priests and lawyers.

The first thing I would do is a social purge. I would round up all of the liberals, communists, and socialists and banish them from the nation.

Secondly, I would rescind all laws passed for the last five years.

Thirdly, I would eliminate the income tax and institute a goods transfer tax of 10%

I would have the NIH begin to seriously study whether or not marijuana really is, or is not, a useful treatment for medical problems. I would have them set out to and ultimately succeed in answering the question, "does pot treat anything?"

By the very definition the word dictator implys to dictate. As in dictating how some one lives their lives.
So if I was a dictator I would do what the dictator in chief is doing right now.
Thank God I'm not

starting to sound like 1942 Germany in here, I thought that was a bad idea the first time?

If was I was deemed dictator I'd probably crap my pants realizing what had I just done to myself.

I would slash the public service by 30%
I would cut their pension benefits to reflect that of the general public.
I would slash the pay of every politician to that of a regular middle class citizen.
I would exclude lawyers from running for public office.
I guess you get the point.

As dictator, probably the first thing I would do is come down hard on and kill most if not all of my enemies. My job as dictator is to remain in power while accumulating as much personal wealth as I can.

My job as dictator is not to "solve people's problems." Realistically, everybody has problems, and they all have different problems, not many can really be solved to everybody's satisfaction, and everybody would blame me for not being able to solve them. So my best bet is to kill the plotters.
