I'm sure a similar thread has certainly been posted but I'd really like to focus on last minute supplies. I have been slowly prepping for a couple of years now and have acquirred a good amount of supplies and skills. I've often wondered if things were going down what would be the best ways to spend the last of my money.

TSHHTF and you have $1000 you withdrew before the banks collapsed. Lets assume that you already have a reasonable supply of food, water, a couple of firearms with some ammo and basic survival tools. What would you buy more of or stock up on with the $1000 and why?

For me personally I'd probably buy a lot of ammo and gas because food and water will still be around in some form or another. It will be much more difficult to locate additional gas or ammo after a few months.

you need to have everything ready before the banks fall. If you dont, its to late. I got my BOB and six 5 gal drums of gas ready to go on a moments notice.

This is so i can get to the retreat where i have all my stuff already there!

What if the currancy collapses, what good will your $1,000 be?

Its coming, get ready now!

Well sanitary products would be a must, candles, fire lighters.

Seeds, books on self sufficiency/survival and first aid.

Wish I could stock up.

There is no magic formula/ list "survival kit" for $1000.

better get off the net and start pinching penny's.(and putting them into tangible necessary goods)
More of the staples:water/ ( grains rice/beans/canned goods) I can almost guarantee your neighbors are eating doritos& watching "dancing with the stars" today...

I can live without gasoline; I can eat once a day: But I hate missing more than a "meal" (day or two)...

Although I love a good conspiracy and what you say just may come to pass I feel that we should not live in fear. It may happen and it might not. It is ALWAYS good to be prepared for any and all emergenciess. With that said this subject is never far from my mind, in fact I was just thinking of the currency the other day and I would think Gold and Silver would be good to have on hand. Bars are going to probably be more pure but coins would be more convienient in the case of trading etc.

A very handy survival tool for your tool kit would be a hand crank radio. Do not buy Solar because the sun may not be out when you want or need to listen to it.

Generator to run TV and DVR so I can watch all the DWTS I have recorded and hopefully MSNBC so I can be reassured that it's Bush's fault or else conservatives. I will also be able to hear Hope & Change speeches that will make everything much better.

Assuming that I have all the major supplies like BOB, food, water, herbal medications, seeds, paper products, hygiene, and basic entertainment(cards, board games, etc). Things I may have a need for more might be blankets, tarps/lawn bags and tape. In the event I will be able to stay in house I will be covering all windows, vents, doors, and all outside access points to keep heating and cooling simple.

If I did not need anything I would spend it all on tobacco and booze to use as bartering tools. Might even think to buy junk food, I am sure people will crave that as well.

I'm assuming the banks are failing but the currency is still worth something, you do have some supplies but what if this was the last chance you had at shopping in the manner in which we are currently accustomed? I agree that you should have all your "shopping" done before the event occurs but say you see what's coming you are comfortable with the supplies you have on hand but still why not spend that money while it still worth something.

Fill my tank with gas and fill about 4 10 gallon cans with even more gas, then go to the local Indian grocery store and spend it all on 40 pound sacks of rice and beans. If that wasn't an option then i would spend it on other things that are nicities. FWIW I want to be home cooking beans and watching the chaos on the TV when everyone else is "shopping" for the last minute buys.

Given where I live I cant imagine I'd have to "bug-out" or even defend myself from travelers or looters.

So I guess I'd spend that last $1,000 on some good whiskey and cigars.

ok, ill play,

Ammo, I would buy another case (1,000 rounds) of .223, 200 rounds of .45 and two cases of .22LR.

Bolts for my crossbow and extra strings and blades tips

That leaves me with $300. The rest of that would go to can goods.

On the other hand.... I would get body armor... I dont have that yet

Good point and I'm sure you are right. I had thought about my neighbors but I never "prepared" for them. The area I live in isn't so great so that's why my focus was mostly on the self defense aspect. While simple and at the same time common sense you made a good point.

I pretty much have all of the bases covered, so this is a tough one.
Twinkies are hard to make, although I have done so and have all of the ingredients on hand.
So, I guess I'd buy $1000 worth of Twinkies, hell and if I die from a diabetic coma, my wife could trade the excess Twinkies for a few hundred acres of land.
They will apreciate in value I'm sure.

There is survival and then there is living.

Many are already prepared to survive but if you had amply warning, what I would be buying would be the things that are nice to have but perhaps wouldn't make it into a survival shopping list.

I'm not limited to $1000 bucks either.

So, I'd go to one of the big box stores and go wild. I might buy some more rice, beans, yeast, canned goods etc. but I'd also buy a few cases of cognac, about a dozen cases of red wine, more batteries, some more jeans and work shirts tarps and duct tape.

I'm already pretty set so in reality, I'd just be topping off and/or getting bartering supplies.

Beer, you cant get drunk on guns or ammo. Some beer nuts would be nice too and salsa chips, I am getting hungry just writing this, thirsty too.

Well I am screwed if it does happen because I won't be able to get my meds.
But if I didn't need meds I would go with lots of canned goods and make sure I had a real good supply of firewood.
Heat and food.

Some quick things to purchase to try and keep contact with the outside world.

CB Radio, antenna, and a 12v dry cell battery, its important to get to high ground so you can transmit and receive any important information you may need to survive.
