How dare you start a topic about a banned member?

Don't you know that we here at ATS were the motto is 'deny ignorance', aren't allowed to talk about banned members because the moderators really, really have some kind of problem with it

Get ready to see this thread closed with the usual 'we don't talk about banned members here' line.

Yeah I have been here a few months now and every now and then I go through some of the older threads and find members who looked like they were very interesting people only to find out they have been banned. Can’t really think of a name off the top of my head but it is quite interesting.

I wonder what this place would be like if ATS had decided to unban all banned members and let them start of again where they left off. Like a blanket forgiveness of all banned members. Bet it would keep the mods busy for a while.

It’s actually quite simple really.

Banned members get banned for not following the T&C. If you look through their posting history, thread history, etc, often times you will see a pattern form. The beauty of it is, it doesn’t matter if you have 40,000 posts, 100 Applause, and 5555 Flags…the rules get broken and you’re outta here.
Oh, and it’s not cool to ask about banned members…all it does it cause drama.

It is good at ATS does not have one rule for the top 10 members and another for us lower beings. No one can really argue with that.

Well, yeah but after you have basically formed a relationship with someone through becoming familiar with their valuable input day acer day for over a year, you kinda want to know what happened to them. They broke a rule? Ok, fine, we just want to know what rule. It could actually be a good thing to disclose this type of information to set an example for others who might not take certain rules seriously. And its always good to shut up the conspiracy theories... If they are not true of course... Also, it could be a good excersize in teaching members not to idolize certain other members, because they get caught lying and doing things the average goaded or troll or prankster would do... Personally I think sometimes a member gets too close to the truth and "someone" has their account hacked. Imagine if I could remotely install a key logger onto your computer or mobile device? I figure out your password, log in at a time when I know you must be sleeping based on your usual posting schedule, I break the t&c, and you get banned... Meanwhile, some jack booted thugs show up to your house and "dissappear" you. This can be done by remotely controlling your computer or mobile device and proceeding to downoad a bunch of child pornography, or plans to carry out a terror attack. They can plant stuff in your house like anthrax, a few kilos of government grade heroin... Pretty simple once you use your imagination. There was a very curious case worthy of a news article based on a member... I can't say his name, but it was a two word name and the first word in the name was Protoplasmic. If you are able to decode the full name of the member based on the vague clues I've left you, I would recommend reading his last 10 or so posts... What the...!?!? Just doesn't make sense...

Applies to mods too. No member is above the law (or T&C as the case may be).

Thing is, there are many reasons a member can be banned, and it isn't the first step, unless the violation is extremely serious. Permanent bans are typically decided by multiple mods agreeing that it is the only logical action.

Yes, I won't argue that we've lost some good members, but the rules apply to everyone, regardless of time here, stars, number of posts, etc.

Besides, if one was banned for sexually harassing U2U's to another member, would that person really want people to know why they were banned? Just an example of course, but there are many reasons that may not be apparent to the membership, that could lead to a ban.

And, as mentioned, we don't discuss banned members as a policy, to avoid board drama. Nobody needs it.

Closing thread...
