Good question.
I was wondering the same thing after Ron Paul said he would eliminate all foreign aid. Nobody except Ron seems to understand how serious our debt problem is. I think many in this country think Israel is going to die or self destruct if they don't get an annual gift from the US. Maybe the aid covers maintenance for US planes that are part of the Israeli air force and without the aid their air force would start rusting away. I'm not sure. We could cut monetary aid and still support Israel.

I think the overall perspective is always lost here when it comes to the complete discussion; particularly when it comes to aid to Israel.

In 2009, our total foreign aid was at approximately $44 billion worldwide. This amount includes economic and military aid. SOURCE

To Israel, we handed out ~ $2.4 billion in aid

-- Contrast that to what we give Iraq or other countries (no one talks about this or the other multitude of countries we give money too)

Afghanistan ~ $8.8 billion
Iraq received ~ $2.2 billion (in 2008 it was $7.8 billion)
West Bank ~$1.0 billion
Egypt received ~ $1.7 billion
Sudan received ~ $1.2 billion

Those are total aid numbers. Military aid (which isn't specified what constitutes as military aid) shows that we provide more money to Afghanistan for military aid than we do to Israel.

Yet no one talks about it; instead we talk about this like we talk about any other divisive topic. Pick a hot issue and then drop all other talks about the whole debate.

Post Script:
Our total aid in 2001 was about $16 billion -- We are now at $48 billion. Since that period, total aid to Israel has decreased...but lets not get facts in the way.

And who sends us aid? Explain to me who sends aid to the American peope when the banks throw them out of their house? Tell me which country sends us aid when we cant eat dinner? WHERE IS OUR BAIL OUT?! I see big banks take huge bail outs. Israel can have aid. But we as Americans should be left to rot on the sidewalk until a cop comes by and beats us over the head with a stick?

NO AID FOR ANYONE UNTIL WE CAN FIX OURSELVES!

I DONT CARE ABOUT ISRAEL!

I care about this country. MY country.

I'm sure Halliburton and related companies are happy to know that the only two nations that get more American funding than Israel are ones that they can help rebuild after we spend money blowing them up.

We shouldn't give any other nation money, there isn't even enough to go around here.
