US deports record number of immigrants in fiscal

Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton, announcing the numbers in Washington, said about 55 percent of the 396,906 individuals deported had felony or misdemeanor convictions. Officials said the number of individuals convicted of crimes was up 89 percent from 2008.

well, it is a start in the right direction. i truly believe that if we as a country cracked down on illegal immigration if would help pull our country out of the recession we are in right now. Just think of all the money that would be saved if we did not have to pay so many social services for all the illegals that do not pay into the system. think of all the jobs that out of work Americans would have an opportunity to get.

Actually a good chunk of those illegals work and pay into services like Social Security, but because they are illegal, they can never actually reap the benefits.

I'm sure that some work under the table entirely and no money goes into those services, but how exactly would they get any of these services if they are undocumented? they can't access any of those social services while being an undocumented illegal.

that said, plenty of "legals" also work under the table, not paying into services, and not paying taxes, but because they were born in the US, they reap the benefits.

Good, and they NEVER should be able to reap the benefits. Whatever they pay in pales in comparison to what they cost for their healthcare, and the education of their kids.

Don't kid yourself. They access housing, education, medical, etc. Every single day...

Nice argument. "But, but, but, Americans commit rape too, so rape should be okay for illegals." The American and the Illegal should be punished, then the illegal deported, and shot if they try to enter again illegally.

$11 billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year by state governments. Illegal households only pay about one-third the amount of federal taxes that non-illegal households pay. Illegal households create a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion a year. If given amnesty, this number could grow to more than $29 billion. $1.9 billion dollars a year is spent on food-assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC and free school lunches for illegal aliens. $1.6 billion is spent on the federal prison and court system for illegal aliens. $2.5 billion dollars a year is spent on Medicaid for illegal aliens. About 21 percent of the population of U.S. prisons is classified as “noncitizens” from Mexico, Colombia, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. About 5 percent is listed as “unknown.”

i have always said go to the companies that hire illegals to work under the table and fine the company for ever person without proper paperwork once this starts happening, the companies will stop hiring illegals ; and no job for the illegals they will have to stay in their own country

The problem is that we have thousands who have had previous arrests and deportations. They just keep coming back over and over again. Unless the border is secure and all States come down against illegal immigration we will just continue on the same path.

Take away the jobs and freebies and they will self deport!!

We should indeed! There are solutions to the illegal immigration problems, but our government doesn't care, Corporations are raking in the bucks form cheap labor and to hell with the struggling citizens. It is a shame!

It costs us billions of dollars to have these illegals, educate their children, give them welfare, food stamps, cheap housing, medical etc. Many of our own citizens don't get these benefits because they fall like two dollars short of the poverty line.

The Southern border is where our military needs to be and 400,000 is a drop in the bucket since there are an estimated 20 to 30 million here and good luck ever trying to nail down that number it's not like a government worker goes around knocking on the door asking "hey are you here legally".

That said yes they do consume the wealth of legal tax paying citizens it is also another well known fact that they send the bulk of whatever they earn back home hence the premise which is proven to be true the majority are receiving government benefits off the backs of legal Americans.

I don't look at this number as being a good thing because like was said they get deported and then come back and do it all over agian and consume more wealth from government programs and law enforcement programs.

The only way to stem the flow of illegals and the government theft of your monies is to secure the border permanently.

i still think that putting troops on the borders is a step in the right direction. Maybe we should start tagging illegals with GPS chips it would make it easier to find them
