Why is this NOW in the press?

Revealed: What Julia Gillard will tell the nation in the event of a terrorist attack
According to a draft address prepared by national security, the Prime Minister will tell the nation: "I ask the people of Australia at this time to remain calm.

Basic.

"We should not allow terrorism to impact upon the way of life we value so highly.

Total propaganda. The government has been doing the opposite since day one.

"Safeguarding the community from further terrorist attack is the Australian government's highest priority."

So shut up about martial law and your rights that have been ``suspended``.

Security guidelines seen by Fairfax papers urge security and police agencies to co-operate with journalists because "how an incident is reported by domestic and international mass media outlets and how journalists themselves judge the actions of government agencies will shape public confidence and influence views on whether the incident is successfully resolved".

Aka, journalists need to lick the boots of the government. No questioning of government. No questioning of official story. No criticism of how it is handled. Journalists need to be the mouthpiece of government and nothing else.

The guidelines state that journalists should be encouraged to get their information from government spokespeople rather than "ill-informed" academics or unofficial terrorism experts.

Aka stay with the official story and if you don't, you will lose your job or worse.

They also highlight "the dangers of live coverage of eyewitness accounts, which may create fear and alarm".

Danger of live coverage... since it might expose some truth...

A media blackout would be imposed "only in extreme circumstances".

Or if the journalists don't lick the boots of the government.

Pretty disgusting from the Australian government but not a big surprise. I bet it's the same in the US, Canada and Europe.

In Australia however, they have a way tighter control of internet.
Internet censorship in Australia
Internet censorship in Australia currently consists of a regulatory regime under which the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has the power to enforce content restrictions on Internet content hosted within Australia, and maintain a "black-list" of overseas websites which is then provided for use in filtering software.

it is a bit weird for this to come out now with the looming war in iran.
i guess its terrorism when they bomb us but activism when we bomb them.
basically its the whole 'what we say goes, you dont need to know' routine

Mate. This is suss. I cannot believe they are openly advocating the suppression of information.

I could almost put money on Oct 28-29 or Nov 8 - 12.

I don't particularly like Gillard, however from past experience the Coalition isn't any better, and I don't see much good from Abbott, a guy who said...

''I know politicians are going to be judged on everything they say but sometimes in the heat of discussion you go a little bit further than you would if it was an absolutely calm, considered, prepared, scripted remark,... ...Which is one of the reasons why the statements that need to be taken absolutely as gospel truth [are] those carefully prepared, scripted remarks." He as much as admitted that you can't believe everything he says. Which I guess you could argue is a good thing, at least he's telling us outright that his words are scripted and if they're not he's probably lying to us.

I'm sure that regardless of which "party" is in power you would have seen almost the exact same statement regarding "... the event of a terrorist attack."

Cheers

It appears the Australian Gov., are saying the opposite to what they're saying in the UK. Isn't Gillard threatening fuel bills will go UP if they don't bring about her Carbon Taxes?

Ministers' obsession with green taxes is driving up energy bills, bringing financial pain to millions of families, it was claimed last night.
Business groups demanded cuts in fuel prices be given a higher priority than meeting EU targets to reduce carbon emissions.
But the Government energy summit yesterday offered no hope that struggling families and businesses will be offered lower energy bills this winter.

Abbot will make the gesture of repealing the tax only to have it defeated and the tax will remain, he can then throw his hands up and said he tried so lets make the best of a bad situation.
the more things change the more they stay the same, it does not matter who gets in, they will do as they are told .

That is exactly how I figured it would play out too .

I think that the best protest to show displeasure of the Australian people is for absolutely no one vote at al. no one even turn up at the ballot box

Voting is compulsory here though and you get fined if you don't.
The current government and opposition are hell-bent on strutting the world stage and promoting themselves rather than looking after the people of this Country who are struggling with cost of living increases especially the price of utilities. We are to have "Smart Meters" installed on our premises so that they don't have to employ 'Meter Readers' any more (thousands more out of work) and they have the audacity of charging us for them. They have got rid of conductors on trains and public transport which has seen 'fare evasion' and vandalism rise to unparalleled heights and made them unsafe to travel on.
If there was ever a terrorist attack on this great country (heaven forbid) then our 'pollies' would rise in harmony and shout one word to the world - "HELP"!
