In a free market capitalist system people pay taxes in order to hold thier elected leaders accountable

In a facist system the leader and those in power do as they wish and redistribute wealth amonst themselves. Insiders and people in the know use thier influence to get thier share of the pie. Dummies pay tax.

In a communist country people don't pay taxes

Which taxation system makes the most sense to you?

People pay taxes, NOT to hold elected officials accountable (?), but to fund the general needs of the country (roads, parks, social services, police, etc) People have elections to hold the officials accountable.

And in the interest of accuracy --- since so many people don't seem to get it --- the USA is an oligarchy. Not a fascist state, not a democracy, not even a republic anymore. We are an oligarchy where the country is ruled by a minority. The foundational premise of the USA was that representatives of The People would serve to protect their interests and thsoe of the individual States. This is in essence the core of both the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. However, long ago the system was corrupted.

Politicians began to allow a small number of people, by virtue of their money and the influence it buys, to influence legislation and policy that favored their interests. This allowed politicians to enrich themselves and helped this influential minority expand and grow their wealth and influence. The 'system' was continually modified to encourage and facilitate this process --- the establishment of a formal 'lobbying' industry (K Street), political contribution industry, PAC's, and most recently, the decision by The Supremem Court that corporations were 'people'. This went on relatively unnoticed for decades because as long as we could feed our families and share in the American Dream we were unconcerned if a few people were gaming the system.

But eventually it had to happen. This minority went just a little bit too far. They got enough legislation in place, got politicians to relax regulations so that they could turn Wall Street into their private casino. Their actions tanked economies around the wolrd and suddenly people COULDN'T feed their families and the American Dream faded away. That's why the people of the world are pissed and if TPTB are hoping everyone will just get bored and go home ---- don't count on it. What we're seeing is the very beginning of gathering storm clouds.

Yes, it's entirely about accountability. But just try and pass that law.
