Every five hours a child dies from abuse or neglect in the US. The latest government figures show an estimated 1,770 children were killed as a result of maltreatment in 2009. A recent congressional report concludes the real number could be nearer 2,500. In fact, America has the worst child abuse record in the industrialised world.

Wow. Maybe the gov't should concentrate on its "house" before worrying about everyone else.

Even when populations are taken into account, Unicef research from 2001 places the US equal bottom with Mexico on child deaths from maltreatment.

Who is to blame and how can people stop it?!? You can blame everyone, from the parents, to their parents, to the child protection system that fails to stop this. But, what can be done!? I know what I would do...but I won't get into it here. I can't believe that for as "great" as every US citizen says their country is, this would be allowed to continue. I hope they screen people who are to be potential parents, and if they fail, their unborn child would go to a couple that will want the child in their lives. Not some crazy baby factory that just wants a check.

Good. At least some people are paying attention . I didn't even "search". It just got me going. Mods feel free to trash it...or keep it up so more people pay attention to this.

We have a pretty messed up court system here.
Compare those numbers to children who live with a single parent.
Often times custody is given to the mother as a general bias in the courts.
Compare the numbers to Canada who has a similar system.
The number of suicides among males is way up and correlates with children growing up without fathers.
It is called socialism in America.

Edit to say I was surprised to see Texas as number one. But then again I don't trust the BBC. Look how they treated Steve Jobs.
