Then there is the other branch of what might be called alternative, preventative, or complementary medicine.... the one based on cumulative scientific
evidence published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Just as an example, I believe green tea extract, tocotrienols, and ashwagandha have all shown
significant promise as potential complementary treatments for pancreatic cancer, all of these typically having no significant side effects. I
specifically recall reading a study promoting tocotrienols and how they would help to boost the effectivieness of chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer
patients. However, since tocotrienols can't be patented, they won't be going through the large-scale studies and getting FDA approval anytime soon, so
something that might help save hundreds or thousands more patients will never even be known about by patients or doctors.
Firstly... I agree with this (but don't understand the Candida snake-oil comment (in quoted post)).
Continuing... The problem as I see it is that Big Pharma has limited effectiveness, but exists solely as the entity: Big Pharma. They, as far as I can
tell, are not really interested in curing the Joe on the street, but rather, give the impression that they look to their own (and their shareholders)
profits first. Greed is an ugly thing. With all of their billions, and if they really Wanted to Cure Cancer... my suggestion is that they should do
research and invest in so-called 'alternative' cures... The only reason that these are Alternative- is because Big Pharma is not really ready or
willing to explore All possible methods of treatment.... only the ones that bring them profit. So what if the cures/medicines are not patentable?
Minor technicality... or it should be.
And a little story: My wife and I went to dinner at an Oncologist's house. The couple was very sweet. It was definitely a treat. Anyway, during the
dinner, I asked the Oncologist what their opinion was about Alternative treatments. The response was that they see patients who tried Alternative
treatments, with bad results, and then come to them in a very bad state. Adding that "if they would have come to us first, they would have gotten the
proper care that they needed". That was the extent of conversation of that subject. A couple of days later, I realized what was said.... We all know
not all Alternative treatments work as expected. This doctor could write a book about what Alternative treatments don't work.... but what they don't
know, and can't help with, is a list/compilation of all the Alternative treatments that Work. The people that used good Alternative treatments, and
have had cures for their cancers... would naturally not be seeing any kind of Oncologist at all. Why would they?
