In a frightening example of how the state is tightening its grip around the free Internet, it has emerged that You Tube is complying with thousands of requests from governments to censor and remove videos that show protests and other examples of citizens simply asserting their rights, while also deleting search terms by government mandate.

The latest example is You Tube’s compliance with a request from the British government to censor footage of the British Constitution Group’s Lawful Rebellion protest, during which they attempted to civilly arrest Judge Michael Peake at Birkenhead county court. www.prisonplanet.com...

Isn't this kind of illegal? To stop the press and media from showing what is going on? At least in America I know that it is, wow that would be pathetic. This just shows that the government is scared.

Shame on google and youtube for being sell-outs.

If Youtube is stupid enough to give up on its advertising revenue, which amounts to billions as reflected on the casino stock exchange, then let them go ahead and censor.

There are many more nations worldwide, in the name of truth, will not hesitate to host honest humanity's voices, such as Iceland and many more.

IF youtube dares go ahead against mankind, then mankind's middle fingers will be up against them as they bankrupted themselves over unwise decisions of supporting idiots instead of the golden goose.

Say the word, and a billion entreprenuers are ready and waiting to take over the awesome advertising budget from youtube.

It truly amazes me how even big websites such as google and youtube are subjected to government bidding. The entire system is going down.

Yeh. We wont do anything about it. we have been dry arsed by the the TPTB for years now, They will probs just throw us another bone to keep us quiet.

Short of shutting the whole internet down, people will always be able to contact each other.

Well going by the all of a sudden downing off BlackBerry and the all of a sudden downing of Twitter yesterday. I does not surprise me one bit. With regards to this.

Maybe it is about I started downloading the footages and mirroring them or put them else where.

They might try ans censor everything, but they will never stop the protests or the message.

If they are pulling videos off youtube and got a kill switch
for the net you got to ask how far are they going to go
to keep control of what we see.

The blackberry network last week had a lot of problems
with e mail and texts,And it just happens the uk goverment
blamed the encryption that it used for the england riots as the
police cant keep tabs on people meeting up unlike facebook
which can be read by anyone.

So call me a little paranoid (on ats the normal state of mind) but
mabe a test run on infomation control.

it sucks that the biggest global source of information (the internet) is controlled, censored and shut down when the goverment says so.
if you notice anything that looks really important, it gets removed but you are still able to view the info then repost it somewhere else and hope the info never dies.
free speech is my right and i dont shut up easily.

Google sees growing struggle over web censorship

Internet giant Google's tussles with some governments over Internet censorship could get worse, Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said on Monday, adding he FEARED his own colleagues faced mounting danger of occasional ARREST and TORTURE.

After the "Arab spring" saw revolutionary crowds largely organised over the Internet topple leaders in Tunisia an...d Egypt, governments in other authoritarian states have moved to try to lock down Internet dissent -- although with mixed success.

Google has long had issues with China over restricted use of the Internet and partially pulled out of the world's largest Internet market by users last year over censorship concerns and a computer hacking attempt it said it traced to the country.

The chairman of the world's largest web search engine warned that in certain countries governments would try to make sure the Internet became as regulated as television.

Those in charge of these websites, when being requested by a Government to remove content, are always going to comply. As it is, the power of the users is only as strong as the forum providers allow it to be. As much as it is difficult to grasp, you as a member of a site are merely one more potential ad based revenue generator. T&C's are designed around keeping the revenue flowing.
