Somewhere there is a corperate graph showing a bell curve. The poor, sick and old have been identified as ruining their bottom line and falling below a margin where they become unprofitable.

So how do they sell their cost cutting to us? Yep the sick, old and poor are to blame and it appears some are buying in to the hype.

You know it's a sick sick world we live in when presidents and prime ministers (who are responsible for running an entire country) receive an annual salary of $200,000 and in the meantime a CEO of a bank gets paid $100 million ( which may or may not include bonuses)... and let's not even talk about how much some guy who catches a football gets paid.

Anyone else see what's wrong with this picture ?

The imbalance is so off kilter, it's not even funny.

Yup, it's definately due to illness of some sort... just not the physical kind.

I don't have the wherewithalll to investigate whether this video has any validity, please watch its only ten minutes and has a lot to do with the OP.

www.youtube.com...

In this interview Dr. Maurice Hilleman reveals some astounding revelations. He admits that Merck drug company vaccines (Polio) had been deliberately contaminated with SV40, a cancer-causing monkey virus from 1953 - 63.

Its probably been posted a lot of times on ATS already but a lot of people won't have seen it.

So back to the op. Big corporations say we are to blame for being sick, if this video or any of the hundreds similair to it have any shred of truth in them it should be game over.

I'd like to know how many of our politicians and Corporate masters have let their children take the vaccines they deem mandatory for us.

I don't think you've proved anything yet.
….Prions may be present but, is it the prion doing the damage or is the prion there because there was damage done? (Correlation does not simply equal causation, you know the argument.)

PLEASE NOTE: Much of the "controversy" is NOT scientific - it results from competition: ideological and/or financial. Political/corporate forces made HUGE long term investments to push "genetics" to the fore as a rationale for revamped eugenics policies and to direct euthanasia and depopulation - proteomics threatens the strategy; many dogmatists are still married to Koch's Principles; and in the purely economic realm, the genomics versus proteomics split alone represents significant financial competition.

Onward, from the top.

1. Prions are infectious misfolded proteins. There is NO doubt that a protein's shape determines its function and effect. It's very basic stuff.

The function of a protein is determined by its shape.
**

Identifying a protein's shape, or structure, is key to understanding its biological function and its role in health and disease.
**

The structure of a protein determines its function.

2. The disease-causing effects of mishapen or misfolded proteins are indisputable.

For example, when the tau protein misfolds in a way that causes cellular toxicity, Alzheimer's results; but when the tau protein misfolds into a shape that results in gain or loss of function, it causes frontotemporal dementia. Similarly, when amylin misfolds to cause cellular toxicity, that causes Type 2 Diabetes; when a-synuclein misfolds in a way that causes gain of function, Parkinson's results.

Proper protein folding underlies proper protein function, since protein function is dependent on its proper three-dimensional conformation…. Misfolded proteins underlie a great number of cellular pathologies, such as amyloid fibrillogenesis (Alzheimer's), transmissible spongiform encephalopaties (prions), polyglutamine diseases (Huntington's), Parkinsons's lung emphysema (α1-antitrypsin), cystic fibrosis.
**

Errors in protein synthesis disrupt cellular fitness, cause disease phenotypes and shape gene and genome evolution. ….Evolutionary responses to errors fall into two broad categories: adaptations that minimize errors and their attendant costs and adaptations that exploit errors for the organism's benefit.
**

…crossbeta structure conformation comprising aggregates underlie various diseases, such as for instance Huntington's disease, amyloidosis type disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes, bleeding, thrombosis, cancer, sepsis, inflammatory diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, transmissible spongiform encephalopathies such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Multiple Sclerosis, auto-immune diseases, diseases associated with loss of memory such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and other neuronal diseases (epilepsy), encephalopathy, encephalitis, cataract and systemic amyloidoses. ….

A misfolded protein is defined herein as a protein with a structure other than a native, non-amyloid, non-crossbeta structure. ….At present (2007) over 30 misfolding diseases, …have been described as such.
**

"These folded shapes are immensely important because they can define a protein's function in the cell," ….

….some protein shapes fit perfectly into cell receptors, turning chemical processes on and off, like a key in a lock. ….changing the shape of proteins, ….the key might no longer fit into the lock, and serious consequences in the body can occur when proteins fail to assume their preordained shapes or fail to connect properly.

"Misguided proteins have been linked to disease such as cancer, arthritis and wound healing, among others," LeDuc said. "Our research is looking at how protein shapes affect cells and how cell biomechanics impacts the entire process."
**

wrongly folded proteins are involved in the development of many diseases.
**

Polymers of misfolded proteins underlie many diseases, including major neurodegenerative disorders. ….a range of disorders caused by misfolded proteins.

So there really is no question that protein misfolding "problems" underlie most chronic disease, or NCDs. The lists pasted in my post above are just the tip of the iceberg.

Your question,

"Is it the prion doing the damage or is the prion there because there was damage done?"

doesn't make much sense. ….It would be sensible if you were asking about amyloid plaques, but amyloid plaques aren't prions.

The real questions are, "Where do most prions come from? What creates them? Are most prions created when we eat a bad diet, live a bad lifestyle and introduce prion-creating substances into our own bodies? …Or are prions mostly created somewhere else, and get into our bodies from "outside"? …and of course, What causes proteins to misfold?"

….We know prions are created when proteins' environments are "perturbed." Numerous conditions can interefere with normal protein folding, and lead to disease-causing misfolded proteins. However, the earliest, most studied and best proved environmental perturbations that create prions include elevated temperatures, oxidative stress, and heavy metals (Lindquist 1986; Lindquist and Craig 1988).

It is well-known that numerous industrial activities: 1) expose normal proteins to elevated temperatures, oxidative stress, and heavy metals; 2) create misfolded proteins, which can become infectious prions; and 3) cause disease. Not the least of these are drug and vaccine manufacturing and as well, food processing. In addition, prion diseases cross species barriers, and infect humans. Moreover, prions are present in bodily fluids and excretions, and therefor, also present in our water supplies, not just blood products. All old news, but more recently Aguzzi proved prions also can be airborne.

So - we are exposed routinely to already-created prions in our food, water and possibly, air - not to mention our medical care. Given the situation, and p53 aside, it hardly seems germane to redirect anyone's attention to hypothetical pathways whereby we might custom-make prions in our own bodies by consuming commercially available products containing prion-producing contaminants of our own volition.

Your thread is really interesting, especially after this:
www.msnbc.msn.com...
was on my email account page.
(I was actually checking my email, while ATS was on another window, so I haven't read the whole thing, nor a part of your post...still reading....)
Here is a part of one of the responses:
"The same people that have created some of the greatest poisons the world has ever known (Monsanto) has teamed up with DuPont to spend 11 million dollars to try and convince us that, despite all the damage they have caused they are to be trusted...."
So, at the moment you wrote your great post, they will begin a terrible ad campaign about how our food is healthy and how the world is great.

Thanks, I was trying to get at that but I wasn't sure how to put it. I think it's a little early to be letting people off the hook for bad behavior if we can't answer those questions.

This info is revealing and informative.

People need to look at this closer.

Does anyone think the fact that 50% of Americans are on medication in addition to illegal drugs, and that prescription drugs kill 100,000 people annually ties in with the NCD Pandemic?

100,000 Americans Die Each Year from Prescription Drugs, While Pharma Companies Get Rich

Almost Half of All Americans Are on Drugs

Study: 22 million Americans use illegal drugs

Mental Illness Affects 1 in 5 Americans (20%) !!

Greedy people are causing the crisis. Government who push policies to further careers, rather than the country. People who are happy not to work for a living, but live off of the working tax payer. People in companies across the globe who want to see multi billion profits, rather than millions. People who want to live like the rich by running up mass credit card debt. People who want to live a life of crime rather than a life of graft. I don't blame the average worker in a bank, I would probably blame the average protester first! I certainly don't blame the sick! If each country had a strong work ethic and each country looked after its own first, then there would be no issue at all!

the only reason healthcare costs might be an "economic problem" is because the ones who can help or have a "cure" make it so damn expensive to get.

Maybe if it didn't cost $15,000 for a single session of chemotherapy (which is more likely to kill you more than the cancer itself, usually) there wouldn't be a problem, no?

Just a thought...

The created the problem, now they say "we have the solution! F@ck you, pay me!"

Wow this is the first time i've ever seen that video put simply that's amazing. Thanks for posting it, it is one of those rare video's that actually made me stop and think about what that guy was saying. I don't know how money can ever be taken out of polotics but i sure do support doing something about it.

I am more concerned that industry creates these diseases, packages them up in nice little pills or lotions or bottles, and ships them around the world.

The only "cure" is to clean up the world. ...All these diseases are the predictable evolutionary response to environmental change. So how 'bout we stop changing our environment.

I disagree. We are sold on the lifestyle before we live it, from a very early age. The corporations who profit from the lifestyle are the same ones supplying the users of it.

OP: Wild thread! I am still trying to digest it all.

HEY!! That was the same excuse Hitler made! He made so many Germans mad at the chronically ill that it allowed him to gas most of the ill, paralyzed and mentally ill.

You and he may as well be twins. Aren't you proud of yourself?

From 1933 to 1945, Nazi Germany carried out a campaign to "cleanse" German society of individuals viewed as biological threats to the nation's "health." Enlisting the help of physicians and medically trained geneticists, psychiatrists, and anthropologists, the Nazis developed racial health policies that began with the mass sterilization of "genetically diseased" persons and ended with the near annihilation of European Jewry.

On July 14, 1933, the German government instituted the “Law for the Prevention of Progeny with Hereditary Diseases.” This law called for the sterilization of all persons who suffered from diseases considered hereditary, including mental illness, learning disabilities, physical deformity, epilepsy, blindness, deafness, and severe alcoholism. With the law’s passage the Third Reich also stepped up its propaganda against the disabled, regularly labeling them “life unworthy of life” or “useless eaters” and highlighting their burden upon society.
The term “euthanasia” (literally, “good death”) usually refers to the inducement of a painless death for a chronically or terminally ill individual. In Nazi usage, however, “euthanasia” referred to the systematic killing of the institutionalized mentally and physically disabled. The secret operation was code-named T4, in reference to the street address (Tiergartenstrasse 4) of the program's coordinating office in Berlin.

You need to read to read the OP, at least! ...Note that it's already happening!

Represented by the World Economic Forum (WEF), global corporate interests say the global economic crisis is caused by the chronic disease NCD Pandemic. They say it's sick people who are bankrupting nations, not corporate greed. And even though the evidence shows corporate industry creates the disease agents causing chronic disease, they blame the victims, insisting "people make themselves sick."

So, our planet is now riddled with disease agents created by corporate industry, up against the (noncommunicable disease) NCD Pandemic - corporate industry denies responsibility and liability, instead blaming victims for making themselves sick - governments are broke, and forced to go along with the farce.

......

......the US already terminated the Long Term care program; Britain already passed a bill to cut back social health care programs and start privatizing the NHS; India already said they're going to make cancer a "notifiable disease."

whoa there

if you dig a little deeper you will find that the nazis came up with this idea by studying the eugenics methods already in place in other countries, and that they believed they were 'behind' in this regard and needed to catch up

ya'll never guess where it originated..

The United States was the first country to concertedly undertake compulsory sterilization programs for the purpose of eugenics.[24] The heads of the program were avid believers in eugenics and frequently argued for their program. It was shut down due to ethical problems. The principal targets of the American program were the mentally retarded and the mentally ill, but also targeted under many state laws were the deaf, the blind, people with epilepsy, and the physically deformed. According to the activist Angela Davis, Native Americans, as well as African-American women[25] were sterilized against their will in many states, often without their knowledge while they were in a hospital for other reasons (e.g. childbirth). Some sterilizations took place in prisons and other penal institutions, targeting criminality, but they were in the relative[citation needed] minority. In the end, over 65,000 individuals were sterilized in 33 states under state compulsory sterilization programs in the United States
