All I know is that these protests better not lead up to a Obama re-election victory, then suddenly stop.

I still don't get exactly what they are protesting about.

I get this much from wikipedia.

The participants of the event are protesting against social and economic inequality, corporate greed, and the influence of corporate money and lobbyists on government, among other concerns.

Now back when the Tea Party was having its protests, the people would have agreed with some of these same tenets. Tea Partiers would agree that there is corruption due to influence of corporate money and lobbyists, and some of the corporate practices that helped with the 2008 crash were caused by unwise, unethical action, and some of it possibly should be illegal. They would not support the social and economic inequality argument however.

I don't really see much of anything new bring brought up with the Occupiers protests. At best, it only seems to have in increased voice for socialist policies and aggressive/physical/violent protest behavior. Are either of these good for America?

Now in relation to the Tea Party protest.

It endorses reduced government spending, opposition to taxation in varying degrees, reduction of the national debt and federal budget deficit, and adherence to an originalist interpretation of the United States Constitution.

This seems to be have more substance than what the Occupiers are up in arms about. Plus, its directed at government. We as individuals can persuade government to do or not do something.

In this case, they are complaining to mega corporations? Have they ever been influenced by anything other than money? How do they intend protesting or violence to influence mega corporations?

I just don't get it with this. I am all for peaceably protesting, amassing by the thousands, heck when the need be I can conceive of a time where violence would be necessary. I don't see any of that for this. Not to mention, this whole thing was created and organized through a Canadian group. Really?! Somebody throw me a bone, please!

You have no idea? I would guess long term ATS members would know... They are protesting against economic/financial inequalities, against corporations giving blowjobs to government officials, against the FED, against fractional banking, against tyranny. I was there at Occupy Montreal (Canada), and yes, lots of folks talking about fractional banking and the Federal Reserve.

The Tea Partiers were heavily organized as they were part of a political party. Here the difference is that the Occupy movement is composed of different kinds of people, "normal" people who are just pissed off about the actual global situation.

The way I see it is that it is the beginning of the long awaited human revolution, a revolution of the mind! This is not backed by a particular political party (even though they want us to think so...) or group. This is actually people taking up the streets. The problem is that most of these people are confused as to what's really going on, you can't expect the "normal" american citizen to know everything about the FED, the fractional banking...These are stuff you discover once you stumble across conspiracy theories.

What's happening, imo, is that people are finally waking up and asking for a change. They don't know where to go, what to do, so going out on Wall Street and Times Square is the most logical place to go (Times Square has NASDAQ).

What they are protesting against, is the Illuminati and all the evil subdivisions of it. When you're fighting against a global enemy, things are gonna get intense and complicated.

EDIT: 666th post, the number of man ^^

in the words of Herman Cain: If you failed at life............BLAME YOURSELF.

After he said that he skyrocketed up the polls... Not good news for the occupy wall street.

We get it. You want to see bloodshed and violence on the streets. Guess what? We're not going to give you the sadistic satisfaction.

This is a peaceful revolution and it will be successful.

Let's break that down and compare with Tea Partiers. They were against tyranny, many were against the FED, and all were tired of corporate buying of Washington. The only difference is the economic/financial inequalities. Tea Partiers would say that inequalities are normal, and that if people are tired of CEO's having lots of cash, stop buying their products and using their services in mass.

The Tea Partiers were heavily organized as they were part of a political party. Here the difference is that the Occupy movement is composed of different kinds of people, "normal" people who are just pissed off about the actual global situation.

Wrong. The Tea Party became a political party. It has become hijacked by the Republican right. The same will happen with OWS as the Democrats are already getting in on it with the President taking the lead. The Tea Party was more grass roots than OWS, since there was originally no corporation or political organization behind it. OWS has this canadian political move igniting it.

What's happening, imo, is that people are finally waking up and asking for a change. They don't know where to go, what to do, so going out on Wall Street and Times Square is the most logical place to go.

The sad thing is, these are mostly the same people shouting 'Hope and Change' in 2008, and buying into the lie. I don't see how Wall Street or Time Square is the most logical place, because being their won't get anything done. If people wanted to get chage, as per the demands you listed in the beginning, then they would be in Washington, on the steps of the White House, the Capitol and the doorstep of each of their Congressional Reps and Senators. Being in NYC where nothing will get accomplished makes them look stupid, lazy, and most recently violent.

So the protesters are rushing barricades counter a lawful order by police for the safety of everyone(not just the protesters) and when the cops have to respond with force to keep them under control it will be called police brutality.

OWS can kiss my ass.

Shut up.

I've had it up to here with you lurking these forums posting your uninformed right-wing propaganda on the front page of every OWS thread along with your trio of neo-Fascists.

You have the right in this country to PEACEABLY assemble.

Rushing police lines and getting aggressive with police is not PEACEABLE ASSEMBLY.

If you're aggressive with the police don't be surprised when they are aggressive with you.

The police are nearly ALWAYS the aggressors. Something you don't seem to have a clue about because you are completely misguided and suspicious of protesters while you respect authority... while simultaneously clamoring on about freedom and blah blah blah. I keep noticing these GLARING contradictions you hold true for yourself... complete cognitive dissonances or outright doublethink. I hope the majority of the people on these forums see through your madness.

First of all I will NOT shut up. Free speech for everyone but those whom you disagree with right? Is this how it works?

Secondly The Constitution is the Supreme LAW of the land. And yes I AM a law abiding citizen because I believe in the rule of law.

The Constitution guarantees your right to PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE. Not start fights with cops. Not civil disobedience.

There are three purposes to the Constitution of the United States. Number ONE- to maintain the integrity of the Union. Number TWO- to maintain and protect the citizens individual rights - Number THREE- to ensure that the exercise of your rights comports with the principles of domestic peace and stability which encompasses number ONE and number TWO.

The Constitution doesn't say that you have a right to not be met with aggression when aggression is what you're dishing out. Breaking police lines is aggression. You do NOT have a right to run a muck because you believe that your cause is so super righteous. No one does.

Lastly and most importantly, if you don't want to see other opinions that may not conform with your world view, don't log back in to ATS.

Please read Thomas Paime, "Common Sense and Rights of Man". This book will give you insight into just WHO you should be thanking and being proud of. Those of us who have acted and filed the paperwork to get the ball rolling. the banks are the problem, the fund everything and CONTROL everything. Wall Street is just a ponzi scheme, a shell game to slowly rob the general public and to keep the upper middle class "believing" they have a say in the economy and they have 'security" by "investing" in fraudulent corporations.

It's all a matrix of BS. Wall Street is just legalized racketeering and is not needed for a Common Law society.

Free speech is for everyone. Free speech is also the right to tell obnoxiously uninformed people to shut up. That's how it works. I have no power to shut you up, nor would I use it if I did. The power I AM using is MY free speech to point out your insanity and to vent my anger at you by telling you to shut up. I don't expect you to, but I feel like you need to be challenged in a way that is comparable to how respectable your viewpoint is. I respect your viewpoint enough to just simply tell you to shut up, because most of what you say is so blatantly ridiculous and inflammatory as to warrant a similarly strong reply.

Most of what you said here IS NOT RELEVANT TO WHAT I SAID nor is it relevant to OWS. You are completely making things up about the movement and then ACTUALLY TRYING TO USE THE CONSTITUTION to attack the protesters. You've got your values ALL MIXED UP. The occupation has every right to peacefully assemble in appropriately symbolic places to voice their opinions and petition the government for a redress of grievances. Not only that, but even according to our forefathers, the populace has a right to revolt if the government no longer serves them in a proper/constitutional manner (which they don't).

You speak this nonsense of breaking police lines being violent... NO. You obviously do not understand protest, you don't understand the occupation, and you don't understand who the people are and what they believe. And until you TRULY understand it, your propaganda is most unwelcome, no matter how many stars you receive from naive followers. Once again... THE PROTESTERS ARE VASTLY PEACEFUL AND THE POLICE ARE THE AGGRESSORS THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE TIME. The cops are getting in the way of the occupation, cornering protesters, giving them few legitimate options, then attacking them for the entrapment the cops foisted upon them in the first place. If there were no police, there would be far less violence.

Seems to me that enforcing a zone beyond a barrier (the barricade) rather negates the need for a barrier.
Why would the police put a barricade up, and then tell people to stay away from it? Where is their acceptable line of demarcation? What is the purpose of a barricade?
I'm guessing that the police are trying to provoke something.

OWS is starting to sound like NWO. Seriously, stop standing around a get a job. The economy is NOT in a recession anymore A recession is the negative growth of GDP over a 6 month scale. It is in a slow recovery, and only getting slower as more of these idiots join this "cause".
I have personally had 4 different jobs since the crash, all while being a full-time student. I bought a home, new car, and others with mine and my wife's income. This is ridiculous. The 1% that is spoken of still pay more than 80% of total taxes no matter what the rate of taxation. I do not claim to be in the 1% because I am not.

"Occupy Responsibilty" I want to start a new campaign against this OWS nonsense. This is the name.

i am gettig tired of people going on about not knowing what the protests are about, surely it should be obvious.

EVERYTHING. the economy, the wars, the biasis media, corruption, bought politicians, unemployment, loss of freedom, emerging police state, the way protesters are treated by police and the media.

there are probably more. why does there need to be one thing people feel the need to protest about, some could be protesting because of one or even all of the things or some sort of combination.

it seems obvious to me why people are protesting. they have had enough! hence why it is spreading to new area's.

that is also why they do not need a leader. if i had had enough i do not need somebody to lead inorder for me to express my disapproval. if it were a small thing i just did'nt quite like, well then maybe a leader would be good to give me some motivation. i do not think people consider these things to be a minor pain anymore, they have had enough.

I would not be surprised if he is a plant.

On another forum, A poll was made where it was asked if you support the protests and if your for communism
or
If you are for the protests and are against communism

The majority voted for in support of the protests and against communism.

Little did some of them know that the option to see who voted what was ticked and there was one that ticked, support protest and support communism.

That person was the most vocal against the protests on the forum calling everyone there communists that supported the protests.

The OWS street movement is on the right track, and most everyone I have talked to that support the movement are against communism also, and mainly for getting Wall Street and the Mega corps out of our government!

The majority against the protests are against it, because the support the status quo which is crony capitalism.

The debate I have noticed is not Communism VS Capitalism

But

Crony Capitalism VS Open and Free Market Capitalism.

If you don't like how America has been ran since the 40's or later GTFO. I'm sure you'll find Syria nice. Try protesting there. Or maybe you'd prefer Libya or Iran. America was founded on the principle of having more. More Freedom. More Power. Now you chastise the ones with more money. You should be more focused on the 0.001% that run this country and start protesting them. If not, go away. Go away and send a postcard.
