The participants of the event are protesting against social and economic inequality, corporate greed, and the influence of corporate money and lobbyists on government, among other concerns.
It endorses reduced government spending, opposition to taxation in varying degrees, reduction of the national debt and federal budget deficit, and adherence to an originalist interpretation of the United States Constitution.

These little protests aren't going to do anything, little banners and flag waving will never change anything, once people take arms and malitias are formed, then maybe you will see change, until then they will just sit back and watch and things will carry on as usual.

They are protesting against economic/financial inequalities, against corporations giving blowjobs to government officials, against the FED, against fractional banking, against tyranny.
The Tea Partiers were heavily organized as they were part of a political party. Here the difference is that the Occupy movement is composed of different kinds of people, "normal" people who are just pissed off about the actual global situation.
What's happening, imo, is that people are finally waking up and asking for a change. They don't know where to go, what to do, so going out on Wall Street and Times Square is the most logical place to go.

So the protesters are rushing barricades counter a lawful order by police for the safety of everyone(not just the protesters) and when the cops have to respond with force to keep them under control it will be called police brutality.
OWS can kiss my ass.

You have the right in this country to PEACEABLY assemble.
Rushing police lines and getting aggressive with police is not PEACEABLE ASSEMBLY.
If you're aggressive with the police don't be surprised when they are aggressive with you.
Shut up. I've had it up to here with you lurking these forums posting your uninformed right-wing propaganda on the front page of every OWS thread along with your trio of neo-Fascists.
The police are nearly ALWAYS the aggressors. Something you don't seem to have a clue about because you are completely misguided and suspicious of protesters while you respect authority... while simultaneously clamoring on about freedom and blah blah blah. I keep noticing these GLARING contradictions you hold true for yourself... complete cognitive dissonances or outright doublethink. I hope the majority of the people on these forums see through your madness.

First of all I will NOT shut up. Free speech for everyone but those whom you disagree with right? Is this how it works?

Secondly The Constitution is the Supreme LAW of the land. And yes I AM a law abiding citizen because I believe in the rule of law.
The Constitution guarantees your right to PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE. Not start fights with cops. Not civil disobedience.
There are three purposes to the Constitution of the United States. Number ONE- to maintain the integrity of the Union. Number TWO- to maintain and protect the citizens individual rights - Number THREE- to ensure that the exercise of your rights comports with the principles of domestic peace and stability which encompasses number ONE and number TWO.
The Constitution doesn't say that you have a right to not be met with aggression when aggression is what you're dishing out. Breaking police lines is aggression. You do NOT have a right to run a muck because you believe that your cause is so super righteous. No one does.
Lastly and most importantly, if you don't want to see other opinions that may not conform with your world view, don't log back in to ATS.edit on 17-10-2011 by projectvxn because: (no reason given)

Telling others to sit down and shut up sounds pretty damn fascist to me

i am gettig tired of people going on about not knowing what the protests are about, surely it should be obvious.
EVERYTHING. the economy, the wars, the biasis media, corruption, bought politicians, unemployment, loss of freedom, emerging police state, the way protesters are treated by police and the media.
there are probably more. why does there need to be one thing people feel the need to protest about, some could be protesting because of one or even all of the things or some sort of combination.
it seems obvious to me why people are protesting. they have had enough! hence why it is spreading to new area's.
that is also why they do not need a leader. if i had had enough i do not need somebody to lead inorder for me to express my disapproval. if it were a small thing i just did'nt quite like, well then maybe a leader would be good to give me some motivation. i do not think people consider these things to be a minor pain anymore, they have had enough.
